RetroForge PS3 Player 0.8.0 beta
RetroForge PS3 Player 0.8.0 beta
A companion for RetroForge, not a standalone emulator: it has no game list of its own. Install RetroForge 0.8.0 first: https://github.com/RetroForgeFrontEnd/RetroForge/releases. RetroForge finds your PS3 games (a "ps3" folder, with each game as a ".ps3" folder or an .iso) and opens them here.
This is an early preview. It's the first release, built on RPCS3 (GPL-2.0), and only tested on one phone so far.
What's in it
- RPCS3, the open-source PS3 emulator, with the Vulkan renderer, LLVM CPU recompilers and audio.
- A loading screen in RetroForge's colours, with the game's name and a percentage while it compiles the game the first time (this takes a few minutes; later starts take seconds).
- RetroForge pause menu: swipe in from the edge or press Back. Touch controls, or a controller.
- PS3 Online (RPCN): sign in from RetroForge's Settings, then games' own online modes use RPCN, RPCS3's free stand-in for PSN. A notice shows "Signed in to RPCN as " when a game connects.
- Firmware install (Sony's official PS3UPDAT.PUP, picked in the app), game updates and DLC (.pkg) installs.
- Custom GPU drivers (such as Turnip) can be imported for Snapdragon phones.
Tested
- Galaxy S22 (Exynos 2200): Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 boots from RetroForge's game page, installs its game data, reaches the title screen and plays its demo fight with sound. Fights are slow on this phone.
- RPCN: sign-in from RetroForge, and the game logging in to RPCN. An online match hasn't been tried yet.
- Not tested yet on other phones or other games. PS3 emulation needs a fast phone with 8 GB of RAM or more.
You need the PS3 firmware (PS3UPDAT.PUP from Sony's website) and your own games. No PS3 firmware, keys or games are included. Not affiliated with Sony or the RPCS3 team.
