River Edition v0.5.9: Chapter 2 starts on a normal walk into Elm's lab (unofficial fan edition)
RIVER EDITION v0.5.9: Chapter 2 now starts when you walk up from Elm's lab door. An unofficial, fan-made "Chapter 2" for the English translation of Pokémon Azoth (Mercury), with the Cheat Device and the Partner Patrol built in.
⚠️ This is not an official release and not part of the beta line. The beta N releases are only a translation of the original hack. The River Edition adds fan-made content that the original authors did not write (a continuation after the League, Mt. Silver, Red, the Partner Patrol and the Cheat Device). It is made by River, with Claude. The hack, its name, characters and story belong to their original authors; this is a translation and an unofficial fan continuation only. Do not report problems with it to the original authors.

Patch
Apply Pokemon-Azoth-English-RIVER-EDITION-v0.5.9.bps to a clean Pokémon FireRed (USA) v1.0 ROM (the common "Squirrels" dump #1636), not the Chinese hack and not an earlier beta or River version.

It is River v0.5.8 plus the fixes below. In-game saves from the betas and from every earlier River version carry over; save states do not.
What is new in v0.5.9
- Chapter 2 starts on a normal walk into Elm's lab (#99, #212): the scene used to fire only if you stepped on one specific tile, so walking straight up from the door skipped it. It now triggers on the whole row in front of Elm, for both the start and the closing scene.
Known issues
- A report of a corrupted shiny Pichu sprite (#162) could not be reproduced; the gpSP Cheat Device menu cut-off (#161) is open (gpSP is not supported).
- The odd tiles near the Mt. Silver 1F exit are in the original hack's cave too; only the map-edge garbage was a bug.
- Everything in the v0.5 notes still applies.
Still in this version
- Everything from River v0.5.8 (Ruben out of the Route 28 pond), v0.5.7 (the end-of-story trigger in New Bark Town removed; Route 28 / Mt. Silver edge garbage fixed), v0.5.6, v0.5.5, v0.5.4, v0.5.3, v0.5.2, beta 33 and the Chapter 2 continuation.
No ROMs are distributed. The patch is and stays free.
River Edition v0.5.8: Route 28 trainer out of the pond (unofficial fan edition)
RIVER EDITION v0.5.8: a trainer stood in the pond on Route 28. An unofficial, fan-made "Chapter 2" for the English translation of Pokémon Azoth (Mercury), with the Cheat Device and the Partner Patrol built in.

It is River v0.5.7 plus the fixes below. In-game saves from the betas and from every earlier River version carry over; save states do not.
What is new in v0.5.8
- Route 28 (#195): Ruben, the Hiker trainer near the pond, was standing in the water. He now stands on the grass south of it.
Known issues

It is River v0.5.6 plus the fixes below. In-game saves from the betas and from every earlier River version carry over; save states do not.
What is new in v0.5.7
- Chapter 2 now starts on Champion saves (#212, #99): the original hack's ending trigger stood on the tile in front of Elm's lab door and showed "This version's story ends here" before you could go in. It is removed in this edition; walk into the lab and step on Elm's tile to begin.
- Garbled map edges on Route 28 and Mt. Silver (#195): the new maps had an invalid border size, so the game drew raw data (stitched bridges, water and rocks) at the edges. They now show a plain border.
- Everything from River v0.5.6 (Mega menu, Pokédex search labels), v0.5.5, v0.5.4, v0.5.3, v0.5.2, beta 33 and the Chapter 2 continuation.
No ROMs are distributed. The patch is and stays free.

In-game saves (.sav) from earlier betas carry over. Emulator save states don't, so load from an in-game save.
New in beta 33
- Mega Evolution menu (#197): the header, the "Ready"/"Exit" labels and the Mega Gengar entry were still Chinese; they now read in English ("Unlocked" does not fit its column and stays short).
- Pokédex search page: the Mode row and the OK button were still Chinese in the tile graphics; the Type dropdown's first entry reads "Normal" instead of "NORMAL".
- Everything from beta 32 and earlier is included.
Known issues
- How these were checked: the Mega menu and the Dex search page were captured in an emulator.
- Not reproduced / waiting on saves or details: #195, #162, #161 (gpSP is not a supported emulator), #128, #103, #95, #63, #51.
- Gift Pokémon from the Chinese Mercury Home service arrive with Chinese names, as do Chinese nicknames stored in an existing save (#67).
- The Frontier has only been tested by script-driven runs, not by long human playthroughs.
No ROMs are distributed. Optional Ko-fi link is in the README; the patch is and stays free.

It is River v0.5.5 plus the fixes below. In-game saves from the betas and from every earlier River version carry over; save states do not.
What is new in v0.5.6
- Chapter 2 starts on real saves (#196, #195): the story variable collided with one the original hack writes in normal play, so Chapter 2 never began, and Champion saves were missing the Elm's lab trigger and the Route 26 gate's west door (Mt. Silver). Both are fixed; test on a post-Champion save.
- Mega Evolution menu (#197): header, "Ready"/"Exit" labels and Mega Gengar now in English.
- Pokédex search page: Mode row and OK button in English; "Normal" in the Type dropdown.
Known issues
- A report of a corrupted shiny Pichu sprite (#162) could not be reproduced; the gpSP Cheat Device menu cut-off (#161) is open (gpSP is not supported).
- A report of garbled Mt. Silver graphics (#195) could not be reproduced in mGBA; tell us your emulator if you see it.
- Everything in the v0.5 notes still applies.
Still in this version
- Everything from River v0.5.5, v0.5.4, v0.5.3, v0.5.2, beta 32 and the Chapter 2 continuation.
No ROMs are distributed. The patch is and stays free.

- Pokédex search page (#185, #187): the Search and Sort tabs are left-aligned like Cancel, and "Switch" (which opens the sort options) now reads "Sort".
- Pokédex type filter (#192): type names are title case (Normal, Fighting, Flying, Ground, Rock, Psychic; "PSYCHC" is fixed).
- Egg (#188): an Egg's name was still the Chinese "蛋"; it now reads "Egg".
- Battle (#186): the double space in "gained x Exp." is gone.
- Capture tutorial (#184): says "Lyra" instead of "the old man".
- Everything from beta 31 and earlier is included.

Patch
Apply Pokemon-Azoth-English-RIVER-EDITION-v0.5.3.bps to a clean Pokémon FireRed (USA) v1.0 ROM (the common "Squirrels" dump #1636), not the Chinese hack and not an earlier beta or River version.

It is River v0.5.2 plus the Cheat Device changes below. In-game saves from the betas and from every earlier River version carry over; save states do not.
What is new in v0.5.3
- The Cheat Device menu is now on SELECT + R (#164). SELECT + START clashed with the Exp. Share toggle. Hold L and it is the Patrol settings (L + R + SELECT) instead, so release L first. L alone (Quick Catch) and L + R (Auto Run) are unchanged.
- Shiny Boost has selectable odds (#163). Picking it opens a list: Off, 1 in 16 (the default, same as before), 1 in 64, 1 in 256, 1 in 1024, 1 in 4096, 1 in 2 or Always. Saves that already had Shiny Boost on keep 1 in 16.
- The README now thanks the testers and issue reporters (#160).
Known issues
- Not reproduced: the Exp. Share toggle never fired on our test save, so the hotkey clash was removed by moving the cheat key, not by finding the toggle's trigger. Tell us if SELECT + START still toggles it in a way that matters.
- gpSP (some ANBERNIC handhelds) is not a supported emulator: the Cheat Device menu is cut off there (#161). Use mGBA, Pizza Boy or Delta.
- Shiny Pichu sprite: a report of a corrupted shiny Pichu sprite around the eyes (#162) is not investigated yet.
- Shiny odds were measured on scripted wild battles, not on grass walking.
- Everything in the v0.5 notes still applies (Partner Patrol caveats, Chapter 2 is an early draft, the Cheat Device guide is in docs/CHEATS.md).
Still in this version
- Everything from River v0.5.2 (the twelve translation fixes and wild Shiny Boost), beta 30 (including the Spectrum Frontier) and the Chapter 2 continuation.
No ROMs are distributed. The patch is and stays free.
