LibreModular-MCP v0.1.0
A universal MCP server in Rust: a language model drives GIMP, Krita, Blender, Inkscape and LibreOffice by writing one complete script per call. The Hub gives it two tools, execute_script and get_state, with one module on the Hub side and one Python bridge per application.
First public release. One command per platform: https://libremodular.davalan.fr/installation/
What it does today
- Five applications driven for real, on Debian 13: GIMP 3.0.4, Krita 5.2.9, Blender 4.3.2, Inkscape 1.4, LibreOffice 24.2.7.2 and 25.2.3.2 ran scripts through the Hub. The guide of each application says under which conditions.
- The Hub made its own showcase: the animated film on the home page and the images of the website and of the READMEs were made with the Hub, which drove Blender, GIMP, Krita, Inkscape and LibreOffice from complete scripts sent to
execute_script. - In numbers: the audit log of the Hub on the author's main setup, from 12 October to 2 November 2026, records 152
execute_scriptcalls that ran successfully (Blender, Inkscape, GIMP), and 13 scripts refused by the guard before they reached an application. The Krita and LibreOffice work was done in separate working folders and is not in that count. - Driven by a language model on Windows too: opencode, with a free model, drove the installed Hub on Windows 11 and drew in Inkscape through
execute_script(13 calls, allok); a script that tried to delete a system file was refused by the guard before it reached the application. - MCP clients: Claude Code 2.1.312 and opencode 2.2.0 list both tools and get the answer of
get_state.

Each Linux package was installed, used, removed and purged in a clean image of every version listed, then installed again. The Windows installer was built on Windows and tried without a screen (silent install, init, the Hub answering initialize and listing its two tools, clean removal, in an account whose name has accents), then tried by its author on his own Windows machine on 5 November 2026.
Everything was built from the tag v0.1.0. The RPM packages and the Arch package are not signed: zypper needs --allow-unsigned-rpm, and dnf installs the local file with a warning that it skipped the OpenPGP check.
Where it stands, and what comes next
This is a first release. On Windows, Inkscape is the application driven so far; the bridges of GIMP, Krita, Blender and LibreOffice there are the next step, and libremodular-launch, which starts applications on a virtual screen, is for Linux. macOS is not covered yet. GIMP with its interface and Krita from Scripter come after the headless modes shipped here.
Security
The script guard stops a clumsy script, not a determined one, and the Hub is not a sandbox. The Hub connects only to bridges on 127.0.0.1; LibreOffice's UNO port has no authentication, and another process of the same user can read the token file. https://libremodular.davalan.fr/security/ lists what leaves the machine and what the guard does not see.
