OpenRCT2-Access v0.99.1

Two large changes: the mod runs on a current OpenRCT2, and it now installs into a copy of the game you already have.

Now built on OpenRCT2 0.5.4

Previous releases were built on a 0.5.2-era snapshot. This one is on OpenRCT2 0.5.4, so you get everything upstream has fixed and added since — and future updates will keep pace.

Installs into your own OpenRCT2

The mod used to arrive as a complete second copy of the game, which meant playing an older OpenRCT2 than the one you had, in a separate folder, with separate saves. Now it installs into the OpenRCT2 you already have. Your saved parks, settings and scenarios stay exactly where they are.

  • Unzip the download somewhere that is not your OpenRCT2 folder.
  • Close OpenRCT2, then run Install-OpenRCT2Access.bat. It finds your installation, tells you exactly what it is going to change, and waits for you to type yes.
  • To remove it, run Uninstall-OpenRCT2Access.bat. It restores your original OpenRCT2 exactly as it was and deletes everything the installer added.

If it says it cannot write to the folder, right-click the .bat and choose Run as administrator. That happens when OpenRCT2 lives under Program Files.

Safer updates

  • The installer checks that the mod build matches your OpenRCT2 version and refuses if it does not, rather than installing something that would leave you with missing or wrong graphics. The message names both versions so you know which download you need.
  • It backs up your original program file before changing anything, which is what makes uninstalling a true restore.
  • Automatic updates now go through that same installer, so an update gets the same version check, the same backup, and touches only the mod's own files. If an update is refused, your game is left exactly as it was and the mod tells you so the next time it starts.

If you are updating from v0.99 or earlier

You do not need to do anything differently — updating in-game works as it always has, and this download deliberately still contains the full game so that your existing copy updates to a matching set.

Going forward, though, the mod is an add-on to a real OpenRCT2 installation rather than its own copy of the game. If you do not have OpenRCT2 installed separately yet, it is worth installing it and running the installer against it, so future updates behave properly.

Note that updating OpenRCT2 itself will remove the mod, because the update replaces the program file the mod lives in. If speech stops after OpenRCT2 updates, download the mod release for your new version and run the installer again.
