Release v2.0 - The Dynamic Batch & Precision Edition
This milestone release introduces intelligent container preservation for heterogeneous batch queues, unified bitrate analysis, and fortified runtime safeguards—delivering a faster, smarter, and completely resilient conversion workflow.
Major New Features
-
Smart "Keep Original Format" Mode : A new "Keep original format" radio button is now available in the container selection group. You can now process heterogeneous queues (e.g., a mix of .mp4, .mkv, .webm, and .avi files) in a single pass while dynamically retaining each source file's native extension.
-
Unified 4-Stage Video Bitrate Estimation : The application now features a centralized, high-precision bitrate detection engine. If a file lacks standard stream metadata, the engine automatically cascades through 4 analysis stages: direct native tags, Matroska BPS tags, container-level bitrates, and finally a mathematical fallback formula (deducting audio track bitrates from the overall file size and duration). Whenever a mathematical estimate is used, it is transparently flagged in the interface with a tilde and tag (e.g., ~3480 kbps (estimated)).
-
Quick Output Folder Access : Added a dedicated "Open" button featuring a native folder icon right next to the destination "Browse" button. With a single click, you can instantly launch your system's file explorer (Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, Linux file managers) directly inside your output directory to inspect your converted videos.
UI/UX Improvements (Smart Interface)
-
Intelligent Window Restoration & Dialog Centering : Resolved an issue where completion popups could appear trapped in the top-left corner of the screen (0,0) if the application was minimized to the taskbar during conversion. The app now smoothly restores its exact previous window state (whether windowed or maximized) and synchronizes geometry with the OS window manager before displaying modal dialogs. Silent post-conversion actions (such as "Close application" or "Shut down") intelligently bypass this restoration to remain completely unobtrusive.
-
Clean Error Dialogs & Expandable System Details : Redesigned error reporting to separate user-friendly messages from raw OS exceptions. The main dialog now displays a clean, localized explanation in your chosen application language, while raw system tracebacks (such as Windows Win32 path errors) are neatly tucked away inside a collapsible "Details" panel. Also eliminated raw HTML character entities (such as ') from appearing when file paths contain apostrophes or special characters.
-
Smart Passthrough / Copy UI Lock : Selecting the "Passthrough / Copy" video codec now dynamically disables and grays out the entire resolution scaling block (presets, custom dimensions, and aspect ratio lock) to prevent invalid configurations. Your previous resolution settings are safely memorized and automatically restored the moment you switch back to an active software or hardware encoder.
Security, Stability & Engine Architecture
-
Strict Anti-Overwrite Protection : When using "Keep original format" (or outputting to the source directory), if the engine detects that the destination path collides with the exact source file path, it automatically neutralizes the global "Overwrite" rule and forces a _converted suffix. Path resolution uses case-insensitive absolute path matching to guarantee zero data loss or self-corruption across all operating systems.
-
Dynamic Codec Validation & Fail-Fast 2-Pass Engine : When processing mixed formats, the engine validates video and audio codec compatibility on the fly for each individual file's target container:
-
Silent Subtitle Fallback : Automatically adapts subtitle codecs to match target container requirements (such as converting to mov_text for MP4 or webvtt for WebM) without interrupting your batch.
-
Graceful Batch Recovery : If a blocking codec/container incompatibility is encountered on a specific file, the worker thread cleanly intercepts the error, logs a clear status for that item, and seamlessly continues processing the rest of your queue without freezing the interface.
-
2-Pass CPU Protection (Fail-Fast) : In 2-Pass encoding mode, target container compatibility is pre-validated before Pass 1 even begins—instantly skipping incompatible files instead of wasting CPU cycles on a preliminary pass doomed to fail on Pass 2.
-
Passthrough Filter Bypass : Alongside the UI lock, the backend command builder strictly bypasses the entire video filter pipeline (scaling, hardware filters, etc.) whenever stream copying is active, ensuring FFmpeg never receives conflicting arguments from saved presets.
-
ISO & FFmpeg Standards Alignment : Refined internal compatibility matrices to match modern ISO specifications and native FFmpeg muxer capabilities—enabling native Opus audio support in MP4, VP9 (including hardware-accelerated variants) and Vorbis in MKV, while enforcing strict preventative blocks for unsupported combinations in MOV and AVI containers.
Bug Fixes & Refinements
-
Invalid Output Directory Safeguard : Using the new Quick Open Folder button on a manually typed, non-existent directory path now cleanly intercepts the missing path and displays a localized warning instead of triggering an OS-level exception.
-
Batch Summary Resilience : Hardened the end-of-queue summary generator against missing metadata keys when summarizing batches containing skipped or failed items.
