Syncative 0.26.0

Choose a tag to compare

@Santuzius Santuzius released this 07 Nov 15:55

This release lets you save files in the cloud from other apps on Android and from the file manager on Linux, adds beta features with Nextcloud as the first one, and asks what to do with symbolic links instead of failing on them.

Features

Beta features

  • Added Beta features in Preferences, which turns on features that haven't been fully tested yet, marked with 🧪.

Sync

  • Added Nextcloud provider support as a beta feature 🧪.
  • Added a question for symbolic links in a sync folder: replace the link with a copy of what it points to, or leave it and exclude it.
  • Added creating new folders in the cloud folder picker.
  • Added Sync all now to the tray menu on Linux and to the notification on Android.

Saving files in the cloud

  • Added saving files shared from other apps on Android in a cloud folder: choose the account and the folder, and Syncative uploads them in the background.
  • Added Save in the cloud with Syncative to Dolphin's context menu on Linux (Preferences → Context menu in the file manager).
  • Added the same entry for Files (Nautilus) and Nemo as a beta feature 🧪.
  • Added the uploads of shared files to the remote's status, also while it is paused, offline or signed out.

Other

  • Improved the Open source licenses in About: all copyright lines of each package, and Go packages by name.
  • Improved the dialog of Remove from sync, which now speaks of removing the folder.
  • Improved the light theme's storage bar, which now stands out from the background.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed symbolic links in a sync folder failing the upload ("ContentLength=… with Body length …").
  • Fixed Proton Drive not noticing a dead connection for minutes; it now does after 30 s.
  • Fixed a wrong password being accepted when adding or signing in to a WebDAV remote.
  • Fixed a remote whose password was refused retrying until the server blocked the device; it now waits for a new sign-in.

Syncative 0.25.0

@Santuzius Santuzius released this 31 Oct 08:46

This release shows how much of each account's space is used, adds a folder picker for the cloud and the open source licenses in About, and fixes a file being deleted from Google Drive when it was edited and saved during its upload.

Features

Sync

  • Added the used space of each account on its page, with a bar where the provider has a quota.
  • Added a Browse button that picks the folder in the cloud for a new folder or an exclusion.
  • Added Sync on metered networks on Linux: when off, Syncative waits for an unmetered network, e.g. while the laptop uses a phone's hotspot.

Android

  • Added hiding sub-folders from the gallery and media apps; each phone keeps the .nomedia files out of the cloud.
  • Improved the folder buttons: bigger and all the same size.

Other

  • Added Open source licenses to About, with the license of every package Syncative is built from.
  • Added Report issue to About, which opens the GitHub issues.
  • Changed a folder's remove button to an ✗ with the tooltip Remove from sync.
  • Improved the names and descriptions in Preferences.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a file being deleted from Google Drive when it was edited and saved while it uploaded; Syncative now uploads it again in the next pass.
  • Fixed only one folder showing Offline when the provider couldn't be reached; all folders of that remote do now.
  • Fixed Proton Drive's used space missing after Syncative started without a network.
  • Fixed the window not coming back on Android after Syncative started with the screen off.
  • Fixed Enter, Tab and Space from hardware keyboards on Android.

Syncative 0.24.2

@Santuzius Santuzius released this 20 Oct 07:21
  • Fixed the AppImage not starting on systems without libxkbcommon-x11, such as AppImageHub's test machine.
  • Fixed Syncative staying invisible on desktops without a system tray; it now opens its window there.
  • Changed Syncative to open its window when started from the menu or by double-click. Only the start at login stays in the tray, which Preferences → Start hidden switches off.
  • Added a one-time note on the tray icon and its colour, as the default icon is hard to see on GNOME's dark top bar.
  • Fixed the window coming up dark with Ubuntu's light style and not following a switch from dark to light.
  • After updating, the window opens once at the next login, until Syncative has updated its autostart entry.

@Santuzius Santuzius released this 18 Oct 15:27
  • Fixed Syncative on Linux staying Offline after the Wi-Fi came back. While offline it now checks the network again whenever a sync is due, following the sync interval and the power settings.
  • Changed the Offline icon to a crossed-out cloud, also in the tray, where it showed the Paused icon before.

@Santuzius Santuzius released this 17 Oct 14:23

This release includes an Offline state, so a missing network no longer shows as up to date or as a failed sync.

Features

Sync

  • Added an Offline state for remotes and folders whose cloud can't be reached. Syncing waits and starts again as soon as the network is back.
  • Improved stopping a sync when the network goes: it no longer waits minutes for Google Drive's retries.

Linux

  • Added following the network through the desktop portal, so Syncative doesn't try to sync without one.

Android

  • Improved starting without a network: the window opens at once instead of after about 40 seconds.

Other

  • Added download badges for the AppImage and Obtainium to the README.
  • Removed the old icon's author from the credits, as Syncative's icon is a new one.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed Syncative not responding on Android when it started Google Drive without a network.
  • Fixed Google Drive showing Up to date without a network.
  • Fixed Proton Drive showing a long error with the request instead of Offline without a network.
  • Fixed empty folders left under an exclusion not being offered for clean-up.
  • Fixed a deprecation warning when building a NixOS configuration with Syncative.

  • Improved the folder log to show the progress of long passes, e.g. "Downloading: 32 of 413 done…".

@Santuzius Santuzius released this 12 Oct 11:16

This release renames this fork of Celeste to Syncative, with a new logo, so it can't be confused with the original.

Updating from Celeste

  • Linux: quit Celeste from its tray icon first. At its first start, Syncative takes over folders, settings, sign-ins and the start at login.
  • AppImage: Gear Lever and AppImageUpdate offer this release as an update of the Celeste AppImage.
  • Nix: the package and the NixOS module are now syncative (programs.syncative.enable = true;).
  • Android: Syncative installs next to Celeste. Export the settings in Celeste, import them in Syncative, sign in again and uninstall Celeste.

See 0.22.2 for the last changes made as Celeste.

@Santuzius Santuzius released this 10 Oct 14:29

This release includes holding syncs on metered networks on Android, a prompt for All files access, and Nix without a binary cache.

Features

Android

  • Added Preferences → Sync on metered networks to hold syncing on mobile data, hotspots and metered Wi-Fi. Sync now still syncs.
  • Added a bar that offers to allow All files access while it is missing.

Nix

  • Changed the flake to use the release's AppImage, so nothing is compiled and no binary cache is needed. programs.celeste.fromSource = true; still builds from source; remove programs.celeste.binaryCache from your configuration.

Other

  • Added a screenshot of Celeste on Android to the README.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an interrupted Proton download leaving an empty file, which the next pass uploaded over the good copy.
  • Fixed a file restored from a backup with its old modification time being taken for unchanged.
  • Fixed downloaded files getting the download time instead of the cloud's modification time.
  • Fixed files below an excluded folder being deleted in the cloud once the exclusion ended, if you had deleted their local copies.
  • Fixed a partly unreadable folder (e.g. GrapheneOS Storage Scopes) taking the unreadable part for deleted.
  • Fixed a warning when deleting something already gone in the cloud.
  • Fixed the Android keyboard closing when switching its language.
