hey everyone! sentient 2.8 is here :D

Read less. Type less. Get back to what you were doing.

Three new ways to use your notch:

  • Summarize what you're looking at. Press ⌘, for the gist of an article, document, PDF, or conversation. Sentient can read beyond the visible screen, and YouTube summaries use the video's transcript when available. Each summary gets its own window, so you can keep a few open and compare. You can also just say “summarize this.”
  • Fix the typos. Keep your voice. Select text and press ⌘. to proofread it. Sentient corrects spelling and grammar while preserving your meaning, tone, and paragraph breaks. It replaces the selection in supported editors, or gives you a corrected copy when it can't safely edit in place.
  • Talk to Sidekick. Hold the notch to speak, then release to send. Or click the microphone, watch your words appear live, and edit before sending. Voice works for follow-ups and in the main chat too. Powered by ElevenLabs Scribe.

Summarize and Proofread are also right there in the notch. You can use both before setting up your personal knowledge base. These quick actions use cloud AI, and voice transcription uses ElevenLabs.

A little more room to work. Sidekick has a refreshed glass look, smoother transitions between typing, talking, and replies, and a compact view while it works. External displays now get their own little Sidekick handle. Click to type, hold to speak, right on the screen you're using.

We've also shipped a bunch of improvements over the last few builds that deserved more than a version number:

  • Switch ChatGPT or Claude accounts from Settings, with clearer sign-in and model-recovery options.
  • SiYuan joins your knowledge sources. Plus more reliable Granola, Outlook, Slack, Apple Mail, and Calendar reads, and clearer separation between sources for analysis and apps Sidekick can use for tasks.
  • Better overnight recovery. Clearer wake scheduling, retries for failed initial analysis, and better handling of sleep and helper restarts.
  • Less setup friction. Clearer permission guidance, smoother relaunches, and model-download progress visible earlier in onboarding.

thanks for all the feedback & bug reports. keep them coming, and let us what you think :)
