⚠ Does not boot on real hardware: this ATR stops on a red screen during loading on a real Atari (it only runs in emulators with an accelerated SIO routine); use v0.2.3 or later.

Void Strike 65 v0.1.0 (pre-release)

Vertical space shooter for the Atari 65XE/130XE (PAL), by Setech Game Studio.
First public milestone build on the way to 1.0 (12 levels with bosses). This build contains level 1.

What's in this build

  • Level 1, ending in a run through the corridor between an allied and an enemy capital ship with gun stations.
  • Fighters, Raiders and Bombers; easy, medium and hard difficulty.
  • Weapon capsules (Rapid Fire, Spread, Shield) from every third Raider, Bomber or debris piece you shoot down.
  • Original chiptune music, a title screen with a cassette-style loading sound and a twinkling star menu.
  • Boots from disk with BASIC on or off; no need to hold OPTION. Clean blue screen while loading.

Known issues

  • Only level 1: no boss and no level-to-level campaign yet.
  • If the player dies while a shot is over a debris piece, the debris can vanish for one frame.
  • RESET reboots the disk and returns to the title screen.
  • Tested mainly in the atari800 emulator; real-hardware testing is ongoing.

How to play

  • atari800: atari800 -xe -pal void-strike-65-v0.1.0.atr
  • Altirra: 65XE or 130XE, PAL, boot the ATR.
  • Real hardware: SIO2SD or a disk drive; BASIC may be on or off.
  • Joystick in port 1, fire button to shoot.
