@Severause Severause released this 01 Nov 01:30

A redesigned menu with a new look on every page, full controller support, NPCs who keep the weapons you give them, and wounds you can treat: broken bones, splints, bandaged stumps and limbs that grow back.

⚠️ Before you update

  • Replace over 4.6.0 in MO2. The installer's pages and choices are the same, and saves carry over.
  • Magelight UI 1.7.1 and Phantasm 0.3.0 are included. If you also run either as its own mod, let the newer copy win.
  • Installing by hand? Remove the old Imperial Levy bio files first, because they were renamed.
  • Vortex: the installer was tested in MO2. Vortex was not tested.

🎨 The new look

  • Tallow & Soot: the new default theme, a tavern by candlelight. If you already picked a theme, you keep it.
  • A finish for every theme: each theme now has its own texture, light, corners and title font: soot and candlelight, gilt paper, chiselled slate, plated Dwemer metal, soul-lit mist, or aged parchment. Settings > UI Display > Theme texture turns the grain off.
  • Softer and livelier: rounded, slightly see-through cards are back, pages fade in, popups soften the page behind them, and the left rail has a mark for each page.
  • Smoother scrolling: on the Outfits page and in the Catalog.

🎮 Controller support (flat, Magelight 1.6 or later)

  • The whole menu: the d-pad moves a highlight through every control and list row, A presses and B backs out. LT and RT change pages, LB and RB change sections, and the right stick scrolls.
  • Left stick is your cursor: it's there whenever you want it, and the d-pad picks up from where it left off.
  • Turn what you're looking at: the right stick turns the Outfits mirror and item pictures, and holding Y zooms.
  • Your buttons on screen: badges in Xbox, PlayStation or generic style, and the View button shows a drawing of your controller with what each button does.
  • Quick wheel: the left stick points straight at a slot, A picks and B cancels.
  • Nothing leaks through: your buttons no longer draw weapons, attack or shout behind the menu.

📜 Every page, redone

  • Dashboard: the title band follows the hour and the weather, party cards show who's starving, freezing or wanted, and the chronicle is a timeline.
  • Companions: a lit header with ring gauges, trends for rapport, trust, loyalty and mood, and memories on a timeline.
  • World map: fills the page, zooms up to 3x, pans when you drag it, and can show your named markers (the ✦ button).
  • Settings: search finds single settings, a changed setting gets a gold mark and a reset button, and the quick wheel is drawn as a wheel you click to edit.
  • Enterprises: one menu, grouped, with badges for what needs you. Holds get banners, the Cashbook charts twelve weeks, and Labor reads as a court with faces.
  • World Knowledge: conditions read in words ("In Whiterun"), and you can edit an entry in place.
  • Markers: grouped by hold, with a Send button that walks a companion there.
  • Survival: ring gauges, frost on a freezing face, and how many hours each companion has until they're famished.
  • Life Tracker and diary: wax seals in each hold's colour, pinned-up rumors, and a leather-bound journal page.
  • Stats and Spells: ring gauges, a resistance wheel, a sign for each school, and what one cast really costs that character.
  • Items: picture tiles, and "+5" or "−3" against what they're wearing.
  • Item view: armor shows as worn, with a Male / Female switch.
  • Outfits and Catalog: seven drawn situation cells, and piece pictures by slot.
  • Actions: the chosen character's face, what the action does, and pinning without hovering.
  • Law & Crime: wanted posters for your own people.
  • Portraits: a gallery built for hundreds of faces, with your own categories, multi-select, and pinned folders in the picker.
  • Bio Blocks: about how many tokens each block adds to every line.

⚔️ NPCs and their gear

  • Kept weapons: a weapon, shield or ammo you equip on an NPC through the Inventory page is remembered, enchantment and temper included. When the game swaps it after a load, a cell change or a fight, SeverActions puts it back. It never does this mid-fight, and in a fight the game still picks. Stop keeping it from Inspect.
  • Give an outfit: the new Give button on a saved preset hands the pieces over for good, so they stay in the NPC's inventory when the outfit changes.
  • Spells in a fight: mark a spell Prefer in fights or a school Favor in fights on an NPC's Spells page and it ranks well above the rest when they choose what to cast. The page also says when the game will leave a spell out, for skill or magicka.

🩸 Wounds (Survivable Dismemberment, needs Dismembering Framework)

  • Normal attacks can cut: at their own smaller chance. The old setting is now the chance per power attack.
  • Armor protects: gauntlets and bracers guard the forearms, boots and greaves the shins. Heavy armor turns most blades. A switch turns this off.
  • Broken bones: maces and warhammers break a limb instead of cutting it. A broken arm drops what it held, and a broken leg limps and can give way. Any Restoration healing mends it at once. Otherwise it takes up to three days, or one if splinted.
  • Injury animations: with Open Animation Replacer, people limp to the correct side and hold a broken arm against their stomach, at a walk, jog or sprint, weapons out or not. Someone who lost an arm moves the same way.
  • Tend Wound: binds a wound or a stump with cloth and splints broken bones, no magic needed. Use a Linen Wrap from the Actions page, or ask a companion in conversation.
  • They do it by hand: anyone you ask walks over, puts their weapon away and works on the wound, on one knee for someone on the ground or a leg.
  • Bound stumps look bound: strips of linen wound round the limb, with old blood come through. A stump already seared or healed can be bound too.
  • Fire seals a stump: a fire spell or a torch sears a bleeding stump shut, and it hurts.
  • Lost limbs grow back: keep healing with Restoration of Adept rank or better. Bone knits, sinew binds, and on the fourth heal the limb grows back.
  • Down, not standing around: someone with no usable hand and a broken leg now collapses into the wounded pose until a bone mends.
  • Time to save them: a lost limb bleeds a flat 1% of full health a second, however many limbs are gone.
  • Magic overhauls: healing is now judged by the spell's own rank, so Mysticism's healing closes wounds and grows limbs back.
  • Fewer death notices if you want: Settings > Combat Context > Dismemberment > Record Dismemberment Deaths.

💰 Enterprises

  • Join any crew: Join a crew now lists crews at your own properties, and the last one you used comes first. A new retainer goes to a crewmate's actual work spot.
  • Hire where you stand: a Here chip shows the crew on site, and a hire made there joins it.
  • Hire several at once: pick a group and hire them all on the same terms.
  • Worker homes: a retainer's card has a Home row. Stand where they should live and press Set Here.

👥 Companions and the world

  • "How they see you" moves again: the background AI keeps a read as it is only when you wrote it yourself on the Reasons tab.
  • Stripped NPCs dress again: someone another mod undressed, like a home's pool, puts their outfit back on after walking away, changing location or ten minutes. Dress works on them too.
  • Hearth camps: companions held at a camp no longer get SeverActions' wait stacked on top, which could keep them standing around after the camp was gone. They also know talking to you doesn't end their rest.
  • Hearth in VR: place a camp with your controllers, no keyboard needed.
  • VR quick wheel: opens where you're looking, so looking down at a chair no longer puts it high above you.
  • Stuck journeys: an NPC sent from inside a building no longer hops around the room.
  • Imperial Levy: Aranwe should keep her name and bio with NPC Names Distributor, and the Levy now match on SkyrimNet's character list, with their memories and diaries.
  • Cheaper prompts: with Cache Enabled prompts for SkyrimNet, more of what SeverActions adds sits in the cached part, so a reply costs less.

🧩 For mod authors

  • sever_employment: a new decorator that tells other mods what an NPC does for a living, so a bio generator can see retainers and NPC labor. Guide: SKSE/Plugins/SeverActions/API/EMPLOYMENT_API.md.

🔧 Fixes

  • PapyrusUtil: if it fails to load, you now get one clear message at the main menu saying what to get, including when the newest file is the wrong one for your game or when SKSE needs updating. Relationship assessments also keep working without it.
  • Crash: the Enterprises page no longer crashes when an NPC's name isn't UTF-8, as translated names on a Russian install can be. Any page that fails to build now shows an error instead.
  • Freezes: pages with many faces open at once instead of stalling on Enterprises, and we fixed a set of rare freezes around soft resets, camps, brawls, stewards and named markers.
  • Travel on VR: a journey no longer collides with the game's own AI while it moves a stuck NPC.
  • Holds: a hold no longer appears twice on Enterprises after a load.
  • Escape: in a popup it closes just that popup, not the whole menu.
  • Main menu: the SeverActions menu key does nothing there, since this menu needs a loaded game.
  • Survival: Mark Rested and Mark Warm are back.
  • World map: a hold where you have a bounty glows red again.
  • Bonds: a neutral 0 shows an empty bar instead of a half-full one.
  • Item view: a torch's flame no longer pulses a square around it, as Embers XD's did.

Magelight UI v1.7.1

The UI framework behind SeverActions' menus. Bundled with 4.7 and on Nexus on its own. Changes since the 1.5.1 in SeverActions 4.6:

  • Pages on their own thread (flat): a page's scripts and drawing no longer take time out of the game's frame, and a stuck page can't freeze the game. "pageThread": false in Magelight.json puts it back. It's off in VR.
  • Keyboard fix: a page no longer ignores the keyboard until you alt-tab.
  • Community Shaders frame generation: page rows no longer turn black, with the page thread on.
  • Controllers: pages that opt in can be used with a gamepad, and nothing reaches the game behind them.
  • Non-English game folders: a game installed under a Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic or accented folder name no longer crashes at start.
  • VR: the grip grabs a page and moves it, the stick turns it or pushes it away, and the game's red quill no longer shows at a page's edges.
  • Main menu: a mod can now ask for a page there (flat only).
  • For mod authors: the gamepad layer, vrGaze, pagethread and mainMenu capabilities, and UTF-8 paths. With the page thread on, your render-thread callbacks run on it, so never touch RE:: there.
