✨ What's new
🫧 Restyle your apps
A new Apps tab, between Assets and Settings, changes any app's bubble icon, LiveArea background and start gate, for games and homebrew alike.
- Pick a picture from your memory card, frame it in the editor with a live preview (bubbles among your other bubbles, backgrounds as the real LiveArea), and press ✕. Imago scales it to the exact size the app uses and converts it to the 256-colour format the system expects.
- Seamless start gate: cut the gate from the same picture as the background, so the two line up.
- Your originals are safe. Before an app's first change, Imago backs up its artwork to
ux0:data/Imago/apps/. Restore the original look puts it back, for one app or for every app from Settings. - After an app update, a customised app shows needs reapplying. One press puts your look back, and the older originals are kept.
- LiveArea changes show straight away. A new bubble icon shows after a restart, which Imago offers.
🌐 Artwork from the web
From any part of an app, choose Search online. The search starts with the app's name (△ changes it), and each site has its own tab:
| Site | What it has | Key |
|---|---|---|
| VitaDB | Homebrew icons and screenshots, matched by title ID | None |
| PlayStation Store | Official icons of retail games | None |
| SteamGridDB | Icons, square grids, wide banners | Free |
| IGDB | Covers, artworks, screenshots | Free (Twitch) |
| TheGamesDB | Box art, fanart, banners | Free |
| RAWG | Backgrounds and screenshots | Free |
Add keys in Settings › Apps: artwork sources: type them, or scan a QR code with the camera (□ switches to the front camera). Each site has a Test the connection button and explains where to get a key. One QR code can set up several sites at once; the README shows how, and recommends a QR maker that never sends your key anywhere. Keys stay on your memory card and never appear in the log.
Help wanted: VitaDB, the PlayStation Store and SteamGridDB are tested on a real PS Vita. IGDB, TheGamesDB and RAWG haven't been tried with real keys yet. If you use one, please let us know whether it worked.
🗑️ Clearer uninstalls
Uninstalling a theme now tells you where it's in use before anything is deleted:
- the home-screen pages showing its wallpapers (it's your current theme);
- its pictures in Photos (from Theme wallpapers in Photos), and any page that uses one of them as its wallpaper.
If Imago added some of its pictures to Photos, you then choose whether to keep them or delete them too.
🔧 Fixed
These affected 1.2.0 on real consoles:
- Theme names in the Library showed only their first letter on consoles where the system keeps theme names as UTF-16 text. Imago now reads both formats.
- Theme wallpapers in Photos:
- Pictures were named after their first letter (
M.png). They're now named in full, like My theme · page 6. - Turn off and delete them from Photos deleted nothing, then forgot the pictures. It now deletes them, removes the empty folders left behind, and keeps track of any picture it can't delete.
- Screenshots stopped working after Imago added pictures to Photos, until Imago was closed.
- Pictures were named after their first letter (
- Your pictures didn't show up in the Pictures shelf or the picture browser for about half a minute after a screenshot was taken or deleted. They're now found straight away, and grouped as Photos, Screenshots and Camera instead of by the Vita's internal folder codes.
If you used Turn off and delete in 1.2.0: those pictures (named with one letter, like
M.pngorP_1.png) are still in your Photos app, and Imago no longer knows about them. Delete them in the Photos app if you don't want them.
🛠️ Also
- The Settings list has new rows for the Apps tab: show system apps, put custom looks back, restore every original look, and artwork sources.
- Settings › About mentions the Apps tab.
📦 Updating
Install imago-v1.3.0.vpk over the previous version with VitaShell. Your settings, backups and themes are kept. Settings › About should show 1.3.0.
The Apps tab writes the system's artwork cache (ur0:appmeta), so it needs unsafe homebrew enabled, like installing themes does.
Something wrong? Settings › Report a problem shows how to send the log. Then open an issue. Recovery steps are in the 1.0.0 notes; to undo the Apps tab, use Settings › Apps: restore every original look.
