✨ What's new

🫧 Restyle your apps

A new Apps tab, between Assets and Settings, changes any app's bubble icon, LiveArea background and start gate, for games and homebrew alike.

  • Pick a picture from your memory card, frame it in the editor with a live preview (bubbles among your other bubbles, backgrounds as the real LiveArea), and press ✕. Imago scales it to the exact size the app uses and converts it to the 256-colour format the system expects.
  • Seamless start gate: cut the gate from the same picture as the background, so the two line up.
  • Your originals are safe. Before an app's first change, Imago backs up its artwork to ux0:data/Imago/apps/. Restore the original look puts it back, for one app or for every app from Settings.
  • After an app update, a customised app shows needs reapplying. One press puts your look back, and the older originals are kept.
  • LiveArea changes show straight away. A new bubble icon shows after a restart, which Imago offers.

🌐 Artwork from the web

From any part of an app, choose Search online. The search starts with the app's name (△ changes it), and each site has its own tab:

Site What it has Key
VitaDB Homebrew icons and screenshots, matched by title ID None
PlayStation Store Official icons of retail games None
SteamGridDB Icons, square grids, wide banners Free
IGDB Covers, artworks, screenshots Free (Twitch)
TheGamesDB Box art, fanart, banners Free
RAWG Backgrounds and screenshots Free

Add keys in Settings › Apps: artwork sources: type them, or scan a QR code with the camera (□ switches to the front camera). Each site has a Test the connection button and explains where to get a key. One QR code can set up several sites at once; the README shows how, and recommends a QR maker that never sends your key anywhere. Keys stay on your memory card and never appear in the log.

Help wanted: VitaDB, the PlayStation Store and SteamGridDB are tested on a real PS Vita. IGDB, TheGamesDB and RAWG haven't been tried with real keys yet. If you use one, please let us know whether it worked.

🗑️ Clearer uninstalls

Uninstalling a theme now tells you where it's in use before anything is deleted:

  • the home-screen pages showing its wallpapers (it's your current theme);
  • its pictures in Photos (from Theme wallpapers in Photos), and any page that uses one of them as its wallpaper.

If Imago added some of its pictures to Photos, you then choose whether to keep them or delete them too.

🔧 Fixed

These affected 1.2.0 on real consoles:

  • Theme names in the Library showed only their first letter on consoles where the system keeps theme names as UTF-16 text. Imago now reads both formats.
  • Theme wallpapers in Photos:
    • Pictures were named after their first letter (M.png). They're now named in full, like My theme · page 6.
    • Turn off and delete them from Photos deleted nothing, then forgot the pictures. It now deletes them, removes the empty folders left behind, and keeps track of any picture it can't delete.
    • Screenshots stopped working after Imago added pictures to Photos, until Imago was closed.
  • Your pictures didn't show up in the Pictures shelf or the picture browser for about half a minute after a screenshot was taken or deleted. They're now found straight away, and grouped as Photos, Screenshots and Camera instead of by the Vita's internal folder codes.

If you used Turn off and delete in 1.2.0: those pictures (named with one letter, like M.png or P_1.png) are still in your Photos app, and Imago no longer knows about them. Delete them in the Photos app if you don't want them.

🛠️ Also

  • The Settings list has new rows for the Apps tab: show system apps, put custom looks back, restore every original look, and artwork sources.
  • Settings › About mentions the Apps tab.

📦 Updating

Install imago-v1.3.0.vpk over the previous version with VitaShell. Your settings, backups and themes are kept. Settings › About should show 1.3.0.

The Apps tab writes the system's artwork cache (ur0:appmeta), so it needs unsafe homebrew enabled, like installing themes does.

Something wrong? Settings › Report a problem shows how to send the log. Then open an issue. Recovery steps are in the 1.0.0 notes; to undo the Apps tab, use Settings › Apps: restore every original look.

✨ What's new

🏞️ Theme wallpapers in Photos

A new option in Settings › Theme wallpapers in Photos adds the wallpapers and lock screens of your installed themes to the Photos app. You can then pick any of them in the system's own wallpaper option for a home-screen page.

This is made for plugins like livearea_nolimits, which allow more than 10 home-screen pages. A theme can only fill the first 10 pages (the system has 10 wallpaper slots), so pages 11 and up keep the default background. Now you can give them matching wallpapers in a few presses.

  • Each picture is named after its theme, for example Persona 5 · page 3 or Persona 5 · lock screen.
  • New themes you install, update or save in Theme Studio are added automatically.
  • With a large theme collection, the first time takes a while, since every wallpaper of every theme is added. After that, only new themes are added.
  • Turning the option off asks whether to keep the pictures or delete them from Photos. Imago only ever deletes the pictures it added.

Good to know: applying a theme in Settings › Theme & Background resets the wallpaper of every page, including ones you set by hand on page 11 and up. That's the system's own behaviour. The pictures stay in Photos, so you can set them again.

Tested with livearea_nolimits installed: installing and applying themes with Imago works normally with more than 10 pages.

🛠️ Also

  • Imago's log now lists which taiHEN plugins are installed, so problem reports show the full picture.
  • The Settings list scrolls, now that it has more options.

✨ What's new

📸 Your own pictures as wallpapers and lock screens

Screenshots, photos and any JPEG or PNG on your memory card can now go into a theme.

  • Assets › Pictures: your pictures, grouped by folder. Press ✕ on one to use it as a wallpaper or as the lock screen, mix it with wallpapers from your themes, and press △ to build the theme.
  • Theme Studio: when taking wallpapers or a lock screen from elsewhere, the first choice is now Your pictures. It opens a picture browser (L / R switches folders) and adds the pictures as new pages.
  • Imago resizes pictures to the Vita's 960×512 and saves them in the same 8-bit format published themes use.

Imago looks in the Photos app's folder (ux0:picture, where screenshots go) and in ux0:data/Imago/pictures, which it creates for pictures you copy over from a PC.

🗂️ Folders in your Library

The Library is now a grid, and you can sort your themes into your own folders.

  • ✕ › Move to folder… on any theme, with New folder… right there.
  • SELECT on a folder renames or deletes it. Deleting a folder never uninstalls anything.
  • Folders belong to Imago alone, so the system theme list is never touched.

🛠️ Fixes

  • Fixed a rare crash that restarted the console ("GPU driver detects GPU crash"), usually right after opening Imago. Thanks to everyone who reported it!
  • Menus with many options now scroll (for example Move to folder with lots of folders).
  • The "Pick parts with ✕" hint in Assets showed an empty box instead of ✕.
  • Big photos decode at a reduced size, so grids of pictures use far less memory.
  • The opening screen no longer shows a credit line over the artwork.

🐞 If something goes wrong

Imago now keeps a much more useful log: your version and firmware, what you were doing, and the result of every install and save. Settings › Report a problem shows how to send it.

Please open an issue and attach ux0:data/Imago/log.txt, copied off the Vita with VitaShell.

📦 Updating

Install imago-v1.1.0.vpk over the previous version with VitaShell. Your settings, backups and themes are kept. Settings › About should show 1.1.0.

Recovery steps (backups, restore, Safe Mode) are in the 1.0.0 notes.

Imago v1.0.0

@SevyW SevyW released this 21 Oct 19:56

The first release of Imago, a fast, modern theme browser and installer for the PS Vita, built on psvt.ovh. Created by Sevy (@SevyW).

✨ What's in it

🧭 Discover All 3,800+ themes on psvt.ovh in one endless grid. Sort them six ways, search with □, and filter by tag or author. ○ goes back to exactly where you were.
⬇️ Background installs Press Install and keep browsing. Installs queue up, with progress on the card, the detail view and the header. Cards show INSTALLED, UPDATE and NEW badges.
📚 Library Update, uninstall, or remove a theme from the system list but keep its files. Re-add theme folders already on your card. Themes from Custom Themes Manager show up too.
🎛️ Theme Studio Customize any installed theme: keep only the wallpapers you like, turn the music or custom icons off, and rename it. You can also mix in wallpapers, music, icons, the lock screen or the status bar from another theme.
🗂️ Assets Every wallpaper, icon set, song and lock screen from your installed themes in one place. Music plays right on the Vita. Pick the parts you like and press △ to build a brand-new theme from them.
💾 Careful with the system The system theme list is checked and backed up before every change: three automatic backups plus a manual one. Restore from Settings.
👻 The ghost A ghost bubble, a LiveArea whose Start gate blends into the artwork, an opening splash, and a warm red and cream palette.

Downloaded themes are never changed in place. Customizing, mixing or building always saves a new theme, and every original author is credited.

📦 Install

  1. In HENkaku Settings (VitaShell or molecularShell → START), turn on Enable Unsafe Homebrew and reboot.
  2. Recommended: with VitaShell, copy ur0:shell/db/app.db somewhere safe on ux0:. Imago backs it up automatically too, but your own copy costs nothing.
  3. Copy imago-v1.0.0.vpk to the Vita and install it with VitaShell. If you already have an earlier test build, install over it: your settings and backups are kept.
  4. Launch Imago from the LiveArea. Settings › About should say 1.0.0.

🆘 If something goes wrong

  • Logs: ux0:data/Imago/log.txt. Please include it with any report.
  • Backups: ux0:data/Imago/backups/. auto-1.db is the newest automatic backup and manual.db is the one from Settings › Back up. Imago's Restore picks between them.
  • Manual restore: if Imago can't start, copy a backup over ur0:shell/db/app.db with VitaShell, then reboot.
  • Last resort: if the home screen misbehaves after a restore, boot into Safe Mode and choose Rebuild Database. Your games and data stay; the home screen layout resets, and custom themes can be re-added with Library › Add local themes.

Built with VitaSDK (toolchain sdk-snapshot-20260825, package channel 2026.08).
