@Shopify/cloudplatform @kirs I'm creating this issue to track what a v1.0 of this gem might look like, particularly with regard to breaking changes we might like to make.

Breaking changes

• New name that doesn't infringe on the "Kubernetes" trademark (Pick a name? #30)
• Single CLI command with subcommands for deploy/run/restart/render (Krane CLI #256)
• [tentative] Deploy command renders ERB only when given a flag, or maybe never. (must use the render command we've split out; related to Support Helm-style templating #44)
• Different exit status for failures and timeouts
• [nice to have] Support a config file that can be used in place of flags: Shorter deploy commands #301

Features/fixes

• accepts $stdin as template dir (Accept stdin as template source #410)
• has separate renderer command (related externally contributed proposal: Allow template rendering from the command line #228)
• supports all major resource types (Support more resource types #46)
• stable CI for all GA k8s versions >= 1.6 (Flakey Tests #226)
• generic CR support (Generic Custom Resource Definition support #128)

• Make ENV[REVISION] optional (Make setting ENV["REVISION"] optional #351)
• (required) Add docs for the public interface of the tasks, to make them easier to use from Ruby (Better documentation #105)
• (required) Rework the Service class to correctly handle the various types of services that are possible (Services for zero-replica statefulsets time out #265, Service assumes pod selector is in sync with deployment's labels. #483)
• Make sure our prune whitelist includes all appropriate supported resources (Revisit pruning whitelist #271)
• Make sure all resources support the timeout override annotation (Deployment should support timeout-override annotation #315)
• (required) Give all of our tasks a consistent set of preflight validations (Consistent preflight validations for all tasks #344)
