Tutorial: Using Mods
Specter mods are bits of code that can be used to modify, patch, and add on to programs that run on Java. This tutorial will guide you through installing Specter and running mods. If you need help, ask on Discord.
First, create a folder somewhere on your computer to hold mod files. We'll refer to this folder as <mods> going forward. After that, download the latest release of Specter and place the file into <mods>. Finally, go to the launcher or terminal command used to run the program you want to modify and add -javaagent:/path/to/<mods>/Specter.jar=/path/to/<mods> to the JVM arguments (fill in with the actual file paths on your computer).
Now that you have Specter installed, it's time to get some mods.
Warning
Specter mods are executable programs that run on your computer. Only use mods from reputable sources that you trust!
To find mods, check out some of these sources:
- The
#showcaseschannel on Discord (Managed by the Specter team. No preemptive review, but knowingly bad mods are removed.) - The
spectertag on GitHub (Not managed by the Specter team. May contain some unrelated projects. Knowingly malicious projects are theoretically removed by GitHub.) - More links coming soon!
Once you find a mod you want, download the provided file and place it into <mods>. You may need to verify that it's compatible with the specific program and version you are using. If the mod's description has any other instructions, make sure to follow those too.
Once you've downloaded the mods you want, you're all set! Go back to your launcher or terminal command and run the target program like you normally would. 🎉
