v1.1.0
Limusic 1.1. Music videos now play through the same player as the music on Linux and Windows, so the picture stays with the sound. The queue is rebuilt as one list in the order it plays, Listen Together holds up through sleep and network changes, and Windows stops dropping frames. Thanks to everyone who ran the release candidates and reported back.
New features
- On Linux and Windows, music videos play through mpv instead of the webview, so the picture stays in step with the music after a seek. macOS keeps the old video player for now. (#321)
- Ambient light: the player view around a music video glows with the video's colours. Off by default, in Settings ▸ Playback.
- Add songs to several playlists at once: tick the playlists in the picker and confirm once. When some songs are already there, choose to skip them or add them anyway. (#328)
- A compact mini player. The shrink button next to the volume turns the mini player into a small strip with the cover, the title and the basic controls. (#301)
- Song notifications. Turn them on in Settings ▸ General ▸ System and each new song shows a notification while Limusic is in the background. Off by default. (#94)
- An Autoplay switch in the queue, right above the songs it adds.
- Shuffle the whole queue: a setting in Settings ▸ Playback that mixes the songs you added in with the playlist when you shuffle.
- Search suggestions come from YouTube Music's own search box, in the search field and the Ctrl+K palette.
- Limusic can start in the tray when it launches at login. (#222)
- Starting Limusic with a YouTube Music link opens it, the same as the Open link dialog. (#348)
- On Linux, Limusic stops the computer from suspending while music plays. The screen still locks as usual. (#347)
- On Linux, the volume slider in the system media widget and KDE Connect controls Limusic's volume and follows it. (#220)
Improvements
- Windows stops dropping frames on Home, Settings, Now Playing, the lyrics panel and the sidebar. Cards and buttons fade on hover instead of zooming or sliding, and dialogs no longer blur what's behind them. (#341)
- The queue is one list in the order it plays. It opens on the playing song, follows it, and shows where it's playing from and how much is left.
- A "Now playing" button in the queue takes you back to the playing song when you've scrolled away.
- Play next on a song that's already coming up moves it instead of adding it twice.
- In Listen Together, guests change songs faster, and the host keeps the role through a short network drop instead of handing it to a guest straight away.
- Music videos keep showing when YouTube asks one of the video sources to prove it isn't a bot.
- Going back to Home from Library is about three times faster on Linux.
- Updated Korean, Turkish, Ukrainian, Portuguese (Brazil), Traditional Chinese, Polish, Spanish and French translations.
Bug fixes
- Add to queue puts songs at the end of the queue instead of right after the current song. (#369)
- Songs you've played stay in their place in the queue. (#373)
- Skipping while paused no longer plays a short blip of the old song first. (#306)
- Clearing the queue while shuffled no longer brings the songs back when shuffle is turned off.
- In Listen Together, a guest could stop hearing the room after a sleep, a network change, or a song another guest added, while still showing as connected.
- In Listen Together, a join request or an added song could get lost when the host changed, and a guest whose song failed to load could end up on a different song from the host.
- Joining a Listen Together room where nothing is playing pauses your own music instead of leaving it running with the controls locked.
- Moods & moments categories and Genres ▸ Decades no longer get stuck loading. (#355)
- Some playlists showed a song's length as its play count.
- Enter in search runs the search instead of playing the last row the pointer hovered, and no longer opens a menu in the top left corner. (#334)
- The cover in the system media controls is sharp instead of blurry. (#360)
- The mini player has its own window title, so window rules can target it. (#362)
- "Open on startup" keeps working after the AppImage is moved.
- In theater mode, scrolling changes the volume only over the cover. (#344)
- On Linux, the queue's scrollbar no longer blinks in theater mode while lyrics play, and a thin line no longer flickers across Home and album pages while scrolling. (#343)
- The Now Playing volume plate keeps its width at 100. (#336)
New contributors
- @parixiit: fixed song lengths showing up as play counts in some playlists.
- @GhoDen: added an optional Nix dev shell.
macOS: the app is signed ad-hoc, so Gatekeeper says it "is damaged". Clear it with xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/limusic.app.
On Linux only the AppImage self-updates. The .rpm is a normal package, so rpm users install a new rpm.
