Release list
WinPOPBit — 1.0.4
Yes, already, again.
Changes
- Nvidia's HPET was found to have been blacklisted in Windows 11. A new patch (
patch_nforce_hpet_blacklist) has been introduced to bypass this. Whenpcat_clk_removal_workaroundis left disabled and your board supports HPET, you should not have any stability issues.pcat_clk_removal_workaround's code will be kept for legacy nForce3 boards (no HPET; only APIC) and documentation purposes, however. - The debug scripts have been formatted with Ruff.
- A new script has been added to automatically format the Python scripts in the repo with Ruff.
- The Windows 11 guide will now be included in every release, compiled as HTML. Likewise, README.md will not be included, as it already has an HTML copy.
Dust off your nForce systems—it's time to party!
WinPOPBit — 1.0.3
While NX patching has been in the spotlight, here's some love for the old POP4.2 game: Windows 11.
Changes
- Initial support for systems that don't expose HPET properly (nForce!). Enable
pcat_clk_removal_workaroundin badblobs.xml to try it. Make sure you cannot enable HPET in your BIOS before using this workaround, however, as, stability with the APIC timer cannot be guaranteed. - All the scripts have been formatted with Ruff for readability.
qemu_gdb_x86.pyhas been added to the debug folder.
I never thought this project would get this far—or even exist—years ago. Thank you all.
WinPOPBit — 1.0.2
This release fixes an issue where winresume would fail to execute on systems with the NX patch and with Fast Startup enabled, causing them to appear "bricked" and reboot immediately. The README has also been updated with additional credits and links.
If you have already installed Windows 10, please use the winload_nx patcher (see README) on winresume.
The Windows 11 patches are unchanged as of now.
WinPOPBit — 1.0.1
This just fixes some issues (mostly with the interactive UI) related to the new compiled builds I am making, and ensures every file in the repo is CRLF. That's all.
WinPOPBit — 1.0
I think the project is in a good enough state for release, so here it is. You'll, as usual, need at least Windows 8.0 to run it. Python is not required, however, as the project is compiled with Nuitka.
Both the original POP4.2 patches and the new NX patches are compiled in. You can switch between them with the -c flag.
Thank you all for using this. Even the first release is the result of hours of reverse engineering Windows, so I hope you all enjoy resurrecting your old systems.
