Quizy 1.2.1

@Snoopy941 Snoopy941 released this 21 Oct 03:16

Quizy AI: free, fast and built in. Quizy no longer runs an AI model on your computer. Making cards, explanations, chat and voice answers now use Quizy AI, a free online service, so there's nothing to download or set up and cards are written in seconds instead of minutes. You can still use your own API key (Groq, Gemini, OpenAI, OpenRouter or Ollama) in Settings. The installer is now one ~140 MB file, and updating removes the old 2 GB AI model.

A fresh look. The app now matches quizy.study: black and white, new rounded fonts (built in, so they work offline), simple line icons instead of emoji, and smooth animations when pages open, cards are dealt, and you finish a session.

Continue with Google. Sign in or create your account with Google instead of a password. Your decks still stay on your computer: Google only confirms who you are. Accounts with the same email are linked automatically, and you can add a password later in Settings.

Safer updating. Quizy 1.0 and 1.1 let you choose where to install, and updating removed that whole folder. If Quizy had been installed into a folder that also held your own files, updating could delete them. From 1.2.1:

  • You can choose where to install (another drive, say). Quizy always gets its own folder there: choosing D:\Apps installs into D:\Apps\Quizy.
  • If an older version was installed somewhere else, the update leaves that folder alone instead of uninstalling there. You can delete the old Quizy files from it yourself.
  • Uninstalling only removes Quizy's own files.

Download: Quizy-Setup-1.2.1.exe below. Already have Quizy? It updates itself.

What's new

Offline AI — no API key needed

Generates cards entirely on your PC using a built-in AI model (Qwen3-4B via llama.cpp). GPU-accelerated when available, CPU fallback otherwise. The lite installer downloads the model on first launch.

Import more file types

Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), plain text, Markdown, and pasted notes. Photos and scanned PDFs are supported too — offline OCR in 20 languages extracts the text automatically.

Anki import & export

Bring in your existing Anki decks (.apkg) and export Quizy decks back to Anki.

FSRS scheduling

Smarter spaced repetition replaces SM-2. Existing cards convert automatically on their next review.

Clickable answers

Multiple-choice and true/false questions are now interactive. Typed answers are checked automatically.

Voice study

Read questions aloud and answer by voice — fully offline.

Document chat

Ask questions about your source material and get answers with page references.

Cheat sheets & quality check

Auto-generated section summaries, and a tool that finds vague, duplicate or give-away cards with suggested rewrites.

Phone study

Pair a phone on the same Wi-Fi with a QR code and study without installing anything.

Hardened sign-in

Rate limiting, proper server-side sign-out, and offline password reset via a one-time recovery code.

Automatic updates

The app checks for new releases on GitHub and updates itself.

@Snoopy941 Snoopy941 released this 15 Oct 22:59

v1.0.0 — first public build for Windows.*

Upload a PDF — lecture notes, a textbook chapter, an article — and Quizy turns it
into a flashcard deck, then schedules it with SM-2 spaced repetition so you only
study what's actually due.

Download: Quizy-Setup-1.0.0.exe below. Per-user install, no dependencies,
uninstaller included. First launch seeds a demo account (demo@quizy.study /
password123) so you can try it straight away.

Highlights

  • PDF → flashcards, five card types: definition, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, true/false, short answer
  • Study sessions with 3D flip, keyboard shortcuts, timed review and a cross-deck "Today's Review"
  • Analytics: 30-day activity, mastery by category, session history and daily streaks
  • Export decks as CSV or JSON, with public read-only share links

Works offline out of the box. Add an OpenAI-compatible key to generate cards with
your own model (OpenAI, OpenRouter, Together, Ollama).

Note: the installer is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen will show an "unknown
publisher" warning — choose More info → Run anyway.
