Porydaw fork 1.0.0
This is the first numbered release of the Sp3cker fork. It covers committed work since the fork diverged from huderlem/porydaw at 5ff997f0 on August 9, 2026.
Highlights
- Redesigned editor surface. The piano roll, ruler, track headers, lanes, scrollbars, playhead, context menus, and editor prompts now render in a retained Qt Quick scene.
- Editor drawer. Voice Changes, Velocity, and Automation are unified as collapsible bottom-drawer sections with dedicated P, V, and A shortcuts.
- Automation parameter tabs and ghost lanes. Edit one parameter in a shared plot; Command/Ctrl-click another tab to overlay its curve as a named, non-editable reference. Automation colors follow the active theme.
- Searchable voice picker. Insert and edit voice changes through a searchable prompt with held-voice preview.
- Responsive project operations. Project opening, song loading and saving, voicegroup work, sample operations, and catalog scanning run outside the GUI thread.
- Fast session restoration. Songs from the previous session reappear as placeholder tabs while they load. Find Song and movable project docks improve navigation.
- Faster, safer voicegroup editing. Voicegroup maps and banks are cached per project; failed reloads retain the last playable bank; blank slots can be materialized and edited with undo.
- Immediate playback updates. Timeline-changing edits reach the audio engine without reopening the song.
- More reliable MIDI import. Tick overflow is reported instead of silently wrapping, division rescaling is preflighted, and import track counts use the same mapping as the playback engine.
- Expanded transport bar. Adds scale root/type, Highlight, Fold, resonance suppression, master volume, and an accessible output-volume control.
- Per-track activity lights. Stereo activity indicators in the track headers show which tracks are sounding, including paused-state presentation.
- Canonical Edit menu. Commands are organized into Time, Notes, Move, Tracks, Automation, Events, Loop, and Transport submenus with live enabled state.
- Improved keyboard routing. Space continues to control playback when Qt Quick chrome or numeric drag fields have focus.
- Separate application identity. The fork uses organization
sp3ckerand bundle IDcom.sp3cker.porydaw, so it can be installed beside the upstream application. Preferences are separate and are not migrated. - Cross-platform packages. CI produces Linux, macOS ARM64, macOS Intel, and Windows downloads with their required Qt and QML runtime components.
- Faster release binaries. Release builds use C++20, link-time optimization, precompiled headers, and an always-optimized audio engine.
Intentional differences from upstream
- Keyboard shortcuts use a fixed shipped catalogue; the shortcut-rebinding interface was removed.
- Themes are limited to Vanilla, Dark Neutral High, and Immaterial plus grid-line contrast; the Custom theme editor, OKLCh picker, and system-font option were removed.
- Per-song view-state sidecars were removed, so reopening a song does not restore its previous zoom, scroll position, and lane layout.
- Pending-registration sidecars were removed, so constant/player choices for unregistered songs are not retained across project restarts.
- Song ticks use a bounded 32-bit representation with saturating arithmetic. Overflowing imports and edits fail clearly, at the cost of extreme-length song support.
Recent upstream work not yet integrated
These features landed on huderlem/porydaw after the branches diverged. Their absence here is pending integration, not an intentional fork removal.
- JavaScript plugins and scripting APIs, including plugin panels, menus, storage, file access, transport control, and audio analysis.
- Tempo control in the transport bar and import-time coalescing of tempo events onto chunk 0.
- Direct time-selection gestures: Alt-drag to move, Ctrl+Alt-drag to duplicate, and Shift+Alt-drag to insert space. Equivalent edits remain available through commands in the fork.
- Rebindable mouse-wheel pan and zoom actions.
- The draggable Beat Companion.
- Returning the playhead to the edit cursor when playback stops.
- Auditioning notes at their stored pan and volume.
