Release list
0.1.3
0.1.3
This update fixes a crash at the guess prompt. If your input can't be decoded as text, the game now carries on instead of stopping with an error, so your current round isn't lost.
Changes
Bug fixes
- Input that can't be decoded no longer crashes the game. It counts as an invalid guess, costs one guess as an empty guess does, and the next prompt works as normal (issue #53).
Version
0.1.2 → 0.1.3 — PATCH. Mechanical floor from comparing the save schemas, the save format, the save code, the kit pin and new source files: PATCH.
Judgment: The only source change catches UnicodeDecodeError at the guess prompt, so undecodable input now counts as an invalid guess instead of crashing the game; the rest of the diff is regression tests and the version file. This fixes a bug without adding content, modes, settings or save data, and no documented command, control or file location changes meaning. The patch floor therefore stands. No merged pull requests were recorded, so the notes cite issue #53, the issue named in the regression tests.
- no save, kit-pin or new-file difference observed

0.1.2
0.1.2
There is nothing new to play in this release, and gameplay is unchanged from 0.1.1. It adds test coverage for how winning guesses are reported, so you only need to update if you want to stay on the latest version.
Changes
- Testing: Added a test confirming that an exact guess ends the game with the win announcement instead of a character-match score, while earlier misses are still scored.
Version
0.1.1 → 0.1.2 — PATCH. Mechanical floor from comparing the save schemas, the save format, the save code, the kit pin and new source files: PATCH.
Judgment: The only changes since 0.1.1 are a new regression test confirming that a winning guess is announced rather than scored, and a version bump to the 0.1.2 development snapshot. Game code, saves, commands and content are unchanged, so nothing warrants raising the patch floor.
- no save, kit-pin or new-file difference observed

0.1.1
0.1.1
This is a small maintenance release. The game plays the same as 0.1.0. The browser version now uses a newer text-adventure kit, which adds a link back to the arcade hall. A new check also confirms that every word in the list is unique.
Changes
- Browser version: Updated the text-adventure kit that runs the browser version. The arcade page now has a link back to the hall (#46).
- Word list: Added a check that no word appears twice in the list. A repeated word would be drawn more often than the others and would show up twice in the list printed before each guess (#47).
Version
0.1.0 → 0.1.1 — PATCH. Mechanical floor from comparing the save schemas, the save format, the save code, the kit pin and new source files: PATCH.
Judgment: Neither change touches saves, commands, controls or file locations, so a 0.1.0 player loses nothing by updating. #47 only adds a test confirming the word list has no duplicate entries. #46 bumps the pinned text-adventure kit used to build and run the browser version, and the kit's own change adds an arcade link back to the hall. That is a small change to the kit's shell, with no new game content or settings, so the patch floor stands.
- no save, kit-pin or new-file difference observed

0.1.0
0.1.0
You can now play Guess My Word in your browser as well as from a checkout. This release also fixes the bugs that made 0.0.1 nearly unplayable. The game can now actually be won. A guess of the wrong length costs one guess instead of ending the game. Letter case and stray spaces around a guess no longer count against you.
Changes
New way to play
- You can play the game in a web browser, served through the arcade. It runs on the tak console runtime (#25, #26).
Scoring and winning
- Matching letters are now added up correctly, so guessing the exact word wins. Before, the count never went above one (#16).
- A guess of the wrong length costs exactly one guess. Before, it ended the game. Scoring counts only letters in the right position (#18).
- Length is checked on the guess as you typed it, so letters that change length when capitalised can't make a wrong-length guess count as four letters (#38).
Entering guesses
- Guesses are converted to uppercase, so
diceandDiCecount the same asDICE(#19). - Spaces at the start or end of a guess are ignored. Spaces inside a guess still count as characters (#24).
- At the prompt, end-of-input or Ctrl-C now ends the game cleanly and reveals the word, with no error trace (#20, #23).
Wording
- Messages now say "1 guess" and "1 character" instead of "1 guesses" and "1 characters" (#28).
Version
0.0.1 → 0.1.0 — MINOR. Mechanical floor from comparing the save schemas, the save format, the save code, the kit pin and new source files: PATCH.
Judgment: There are no saves in this game, and the command for running it from a checkout (python src/guessMyWord.py) still works the same way, so nothing breaks for a player upgrading from 0.0.1. I raised the level above the patch floor because #25 adds a new way to play: in the browser through the arcade. The other player-facing changes are bug fixes. The biggest fix makes the game winnable, because in 0.0.1 the match count never got past one. The rest of the change is tests, CI and documentation.
- no save, kit-pin or new-file difference observed
