Immutable release. Only release title and notes can be modified.

The biggest release since the August redesign. Everything listed under v1.8.0 in CHANGELOG.md ships here; these are the parts you'll notice.

What's new

  • Answer & hang up blocked calls. A new switch in Settings, off by default. When it's on, a call CallShield would reject is answered without video and hung up after a delay you set (1 to 10 seconds), so spam can't leave a voicemail. Silent voicemail mode, low-confidence auto-mute and a meeting-mode silence still go to voicemail, and a call that arrives while you're already on one is rejected as before. Setup no longer asks for the answer-calls permission; the switch asks when you turn it on. Contributed by @tikkamasalla (#22, #26).
  • Outgoing call check. Opt-in. A call you dial to a number on your blocklist, in the spam database, on a premium-rate line or on a callback-scam country code is held, and a notification tells you why and offers Call anyway.
  • Meeting mode. While a meeting app you pick has a call up, callers outside your contacts go quietly to voicemail.
  • Signed protection data, and downloads that work again. GitHub changed its certificates in early August and the pins in v1.7.36 to v1.7.38 refused every download since. The pins are fixed, every feed the app downloads now carries the maintainer's signature, and Settings has a feed mirror for places where GitHub is blocked.
  • Region rules outside North America, plus telemarketing ranges for Spain, India and Brazil in Settings.
  • A verified caller no longer skips the database on its own. About half of all robocalls carry carrier verification. It now overrides a database match only when that entry's evidence is more than a year old and the number isn't trending.
  • Chinese covers every line of system text, and the block log, Lookup and the "why was this blocked" panel are translatable.
  • Community reports go out once, wait for a connection when you're offline, and the database grows to 51,806 numbers with 653 range prefixes.

Fixes worth knowing about

  • Updating from a release before August 2026 no longer leaves the app unable to open its database.
  • Swiping a number in the block log says when the block couldn't be saved instead of showing an Undo with nothing to undo.
  • The Report button no longer files a GitHub issue saying a number you looked up was "Seen 0 times".
  • Three of the four live lookup services were gone or broken; the one that works (SkipCalls) is now read correctly.

Installing

Download CallShield-v1.8.0.apk below and install it over your current version. Releases since v1.7.37 share one signing key, so the update keeps your settings and blocklist. If you're still on v1.7.29 or earlier (those shipped unsigned), export a backup in Settings first, uninstall, then install this one.

What was checked

1,523 JVM unit tests, ktlint, detekt and lint pass. The pipeline suites, release metadata checks and the live certificate pin check pass. The signed APK was installed over v1.7.38 on an Android 15 emulator and a simulated blocked call was answered and dropped, and it was installed and opened on a Galaxy S22.
