@TERMINATORmdel101 TERMINATORmdel101 released this 27 Oct 16:26

Older version / Ancienne version. The latest release is listed here / la dernière version est indiquée ici : https://github.com/TERMINATORmdel101/MAUS/releases (or / ou winget upgrade TERMINATORmdel101.MAUS).

MAUS (Maintenance · Audit · Updates · Security) is a free, open-source (GPL-3.0) Windows 11 utility: a read-only audit first, then fixes chosen by the user, each one explained and reversible. MAUS is designed and coded with Claude, an AI by Anthropic, under the direction of its author.

This is an alpha version in active development: some features may be incomplete and bugs may occur.

Download: MAUS-0.8.2-installation.exe (installs to Program Files, .NET included, uninstall from Settings > Apps).
SHA-256: b4f6be09f85a5e10af2f12a77f721f56ebfa2fe3e20a8551083c0139009e4a29
Build provenance: this installer was built by GitHub Actions from this repository; anyone can check it with gh attestation verify MAUS-0.8.2-installation.exe -R TERMINATORmdel101/MAUS.

Not signed: this installer has no code signature yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning ("More info", then "Run anyway"). Our application for free signing by the SignPath Foundation was declined for now (the project is still too new); we will apply again later.

What's new since 0.8.1

Help

  • "?" button at the bottom of the navigation bar and in "About": opens the MAUS help site.
  • "What's new" window the first time a new version opens (never on a first install).
  • Graphics driver catalog re-checked on 10/27/2026, with a monthly reminder on GitHub.

New explanations (read-only)

  • "Why does my PC start slowly?" (startup module): time before and after the desktop appears, last 5 boots, and everything Windows blames for slowing startup (programs, drivers, services, devices, policies).
  • "Why does my PC wake up at night?" (power module): wakes recorded by Windows over 30 days, devices allowed to wake the PC, scheduled tasks set to wake it.
  • Blue screens: the last 5, with code, official name and parameters, and a link to Microsoft's bug check reference (only WinDbg can name the faulty driver; MAUS says so).
  • Battery: the 80% wear threshold was removed (no published source); charge cycles; "Windows battery report" button.
  • Nearby Wi-Fi: nearby access points counted by band and channel, without their names (privacy). Since Windows 11 24H2, Windows refuses Wi-Fi details without location access: MAUS now explains it and opens the Location page. Not yet checked on a PC with Wi-Fi.
  • Windows restore points (History): list, protection state, space used; create a verified restore point; open the Windows tool to go back to one.

New reversible fixes (never preselected)

  • Scheduled tasks started at sign-in: turn off third-party tasks one by one (never Windows tasks); "Undo" turns them back on.
  • Recall (Pro and above): block snapshots with Microsoft's official DisableAIDataAnalysis policy, with a strong warning (according to Microsoft, snapshots already saved are deleted). On Home: link to Settings.
  • Copilot: no longer shown as fixable (Windows has no official policy to remove it on Home and Pro); button to Installed apps.
  • "Windows values" for visual effects (advanced): every "Performance Options" box goes back to the default value Windows itself declares on the PC.
  • Display refresh rate: "Try the maximum refresh rate" button; trial without saving, "Keep?" window, automatic return to the old setting after 15 seconds without an answer. HDR is still never switched automatically.
