Journedge v4.0.0
Release Date: 2026-07-18
Type: Major Release
What's New
Journedge started as a trade logger. As of v4.0.0, it's a complete trading process tool — plan the trade before you take it, execute it, journal it, size it correctly, link it to the strategy that defined it, and see the real numbers behind every setup you run. This is the largest release in the project's history, spanning eight feature phases built end to end over the last several months.
If you're upgrading from v3.2.x, everything you already had — MAE/MFE tracking, behavioral analysis, risk of ruin, the auto-update pipeline — is untouched and still here. Everything below is new on top of it.
Pre-Trade Planning
Write your thesis down before you're in the trade, not after.
Log your setup type, entry zone, stop level, and target — the R:R ratio calculates live as you type. Once the trade executes, link the plan back to it and see exactly how your intentions held up against what actually happened. Plans move through a real lifecycle — Pending → Executed / Missed / Cancelled — so your history of "what I meant to do" is just as visible as your history of P&L.
Strategy Playbook
A dedicated library for the setups you actually trade — separate from the journal, built to hold up over time.
Document each setup's rules, entry triggers, exit criteria, timeframes, and instruments. Link trades to a setup directly from the journal editor or the quick-view trade panel, and the playbook shows you live performance per setup: trade count, win rate, net P&L — all computed automatically from whatever's linked. No more guessing which setup is actually carrying your account.
Hour-of-Day Heatmap
A new tab in Analytics breaking down P&L, win rate, and trade count by hour of the trading day. Toggle between all three metrics. If you've ever suspected your first thirty minutes are bleeding money while your afternoons print, now you can prove it.
Daily Risk Controls
Set a daily loss limit and a max trade count in Settings. The Dashboard shows a live meter for both — green while you're within bounds, yellow approaching the edge, red when you've hit it. Set both to zero and the strip disappears entirely, so there's no clutter if you don't want it.
Position Sizing Calculator
A standalone calculator for stocks, options, and futures. Feed it your account size, risk percentage, entry, and stop — it returns exact position size, dollar risk, and position value as a percentage of account. Add a target and it layers in R:R ratio, potential gain, breakeven win rate, and a proportional risk/reward bar. Long and short aware throughout.
Light Mode
A full light theme, toggled instantly from Settings with zero flash on page load. Every CSS variable in the app was already routed through custom properties, so this shipped without a single hardcoded color needing to change.
Keyboard Shortcuts
D J A C P B I E N jump straight to their respective pages, / brings up the full shortcut overlay, Esc closes whatever's open. Disabled automatically while typing anywhere, including the journal editor.
Trade Deletion
The most-requested feature in the project's short history. You can now delete a trade directly from the Dashboard table, the Journal page, or the trade quick-view panel — each with its own two-click confirmation so nothing disappears by accident.
JSON Export
A full-fidelity JSON export sits alongside the existing CSV and PDF options in Settings, for anyone who wants every field preserved exactly as stored.
Also Included
This release branches from main, so it carries forward everything shipped in v3.2.1 — Charles Schwab Realized Gain/Loss CSV import support, along with the routine Next.js dependency bump to 16.2.6.
Contributors
[@thomasfischer089](https://github.com/thomasfischer089) requested per-trade deletion in [#2] — it's now one of the most-used actions in the app. Thanks for the push.
[@lollllcat ](https://github.com/lollllcat) contributed Charles Schwab import support in v3.2.1, the first community pull request merged into Journedge — carried forward into this release.
Installation
git clone https://github.com/TheQuantum-Dev/journedge.git
cd journedge
npm install
cp .env.example .env
npx prisma migrate dev
npm run devExisting users:
git pull origin main && npm install && npx prisma migrate dev
The migration adds the TradePlan and Playbook tables and extends Trade with hourOfDay, playbookId, and planId. Existing trades are unaffected — all new columns are nullable.
