Tekken 4 Online v0.1.2
⬇️ How to install
Install and update Tekken 4 through the OpenRecomp-FGC launcher (Tekken 4 tile → Install / Update → Build). Don't download this zip by hand, and don't use the old Tekken4.cmd.
Get the launcher here: https://github.com/TheWishin/OpenRecomp-FGC/releases/latest
Pre-release. Install/update through the OpenRecomp-FGC launcher (Tekken 4 tile). Both players need the same version.
Tekken 4 Recomp v0.1.2 (pre-release) - release notes
Small fix on top of v0.1.1. Everything in RELEASE_NOTES_0.1.1.md still applies:
ranked and casual online through the OpenRecomp-FGC launcher, player names, rank badges, speed and older-PC
notes, Linux / Steam Deck notes.
What is new
- Rank badges are hidden whenever the game hides the player names, for example during the KO replay.
In v0.1.1 the badges stayed on screen over the replay. They are now drawn only while the game itself
draws the player's name text. See docs/T4_RANKED.md.
Known issues
Unchanged from v0.1.1 (see RELEASE_NOTES_0.1.1.md and docs/KNOWN_ISSUES.md): short frame-time stutters in fights,
no widescreen, intro movie sound sync unmeasured, a fresh game per online match (no instant rematch), no replay
recording, both players need a reachable UDP path and the same build, and no pair of physical PCs over the
internet has been tested yet.
Reporting a problem
Tell us your PC (CPU, GPU), Windows version, whether you played direct IP, VPN or the lobby, and what happened.
Keep both players' logs folders and check them for personal details before sharing. Never share your ISO.
Tekken 4 Online v0.1.1
Pre-release for testing. Install/update through the OpenRecomp-FGC launcher (Tekken 4 tile). Both players need the same version.
Tekken 4 Recomp v0.1.1 (pre-release) - release notes
Tekken 4 USA v1.00 (SLUS-20328), static recompilation for Windows, built on your PC from your own ISO.
No game data, BIOS or built game program is in the download. Project code is GPL-3.0.
This is a pre-release. It is the first T4 version with ranked play through the OpenRecomp-FGC launcher.
Direct IP / VPN play still works without a lobby.
What is new
Ranked and casual online (through the OpenRecomp-FGC launcher)
- Ranked uses the same 37 ranks as Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection Online (T5DR). Your rank comes from the shared
OpenRecomp account; T4 only draws it. - A match is first to 3 rounds. Three round markers per side are shown under the life bars.
- Player names replace the fighter names on the VS select and in the fight, drawn in the game's own font
(printable ASCII, up to 16 characters, shortened to fit). - A rank badge sits next to each name. If T5DR is installed, you see its real rank plate; otherwise a drawn badge.
Guests have a name and no badge. The plates are only read from your own T5DR files, never copied or shipped. - The game reports the result itself (winner, round score, fighters, stage). Nobody types in who won.
- Online games boot straight to the VS character select, so you only pick your fighter.
SetTEKKEN4_NET_AUTO_VS=0for the old manual menus (both players must use the same setting). - Online play outside the VS flow (title, mode select, movies) runs in lockstep, never in rollback. This fixes a
desync when a scene change started inside a rolled-back frame (docs/MOVIE_ROLLBACK_T4.md).
Speed (aimed at 60 fps in fights)
- VU1 / VU0 microprograms are recompiled to native code at build time from your own game files. Covered paths run
without the VU interpreter. Paths not covered still use the exact engine, so this is not an interpreter-free game. - The IOP (sound driver CPU) skips idle time cheaply, with the same state bit for bit.
- VU1 and the GS front end run on their own threads (on by default).
- On a fast PC, 9 of 10 test stages held a steady 60 fps (the worst reached 57); see docs/PERF.md. This is not a
promise for slow PCs.
Intro movie sound
- The stereo decoding was wrong (channels were interleaved at the wrong size) and the movie audio queue ran dry.
Both are fixed: no audio gaps over 5 ms in a 119-second capture, and the level matches the original game. - Audio-to-picture offset of the intro was not measured.
Older PCs
- BUILD GAME makes an SSE2-only program on a CPU without SSSE3 / SSE4.1 (Phenom II, Athlon II, first Core 2).
Online results stay identical to the normal build, so mixed pairs can play each other. - A graphics card with OpenGL 4.3 is still required (GeForce GTX 400 or newer, Radeon HD 5000/6000 or HD 7000 and
newer; Intel HD 4600 probably). Intel HD 2000-4000 cannot run it. 4 GB RAM. - 4 cores / 4 threads of about 2012 or newer are recommended for 60 fps in fights. 2 cores run the game but drop
below 60 in fights. In Settings, choose Internal resolution "Low" (480p) on a weak PC. - No Core 2 or 2-core old PC has been tested; the figures come from one fast PC with stand-ins.
Linux / Steam Deck (Proton)
- The build and play steps use Python, not PowerShell, so they can run inside a Wine / Proton prefix.
See docs/LINUX_STEAM_DECK.md. This has not been validated on a real Steam Deck or Linux PC yet.
Tell us what happens if you try it.
How it was checked
- A build from a fresh ISO in a folder with spaces and non-ASCII characters passed.
- Online pairs ran on one PC with two game instances and a simulated network of about 150 ms round trip, 3 % loss:
ranked set, guest account with both sides, whole-session lockstep. 0 mismatching frames, same result on both sides. - A pair of physical PCs over the internet was NOT part of this check. Direct IP / VPN between two real PCs
is the part we most need your reports on.
Known issues
- Frame time in fights: on a quiet PC the median is 16.6 ms, but up to about 10 frames per minute take longer
than 20 ms. You may see short stutters. Not fixed in this release. - Widescreen is not in this release. The picture is 4:3 content with your chosen internal resolution.
- Intro movie: sound is fixed, but sync with the picture is unmeasured.
- Online still starts a fresh game per match; there is no instant rematch.
- Startup and loading can pause for a moment. Bright dots can show on the beach stage at high resolution.
- Replay recording and playback are not supported.
- Both players need a reachable UDP path and the same build. Details: docs/KNOWN_ISSUES.md.

Tekken 4 Recomp v0.1.0-beta.1 (beta)
Tekken 4 Recomp v0.1.0-beta.1: Tekken 4 runs natively on Windows inside the new OpenRecomp-FGC launcher. You can play offline, or online with rollback by direct IP or VPN.
This is an early beta. Please read "Before you start" and "Known issues" below.
Before you start
-
You need your own Tekken 4 USA v1.00 ISO (SLUS-20328). No game data, BIOS or ready-made game executable is included. The game is built on your PC from your ISO.
-
Windows 10/11 x64. Install these build tools first:
- Visual Studio 2022 Build Tools with "Desktop development with C++" (MSVC v143 and a Windows SDK)
- Git
- CMake 3.20 or newer
- Ninja
git, cmakeandninjamust be on PATH. Python is included in the download.
Install
- Download
OpenRecomp-Tekken4-v0.1.0-beta.1.zipand unpack it into a new, empty folder. - Double-click
OpenRecomp-FGC\run.cmd. - Choose Tekken 4, select your ISO and follow the steps. The first build takes a few minutes.
Online
- Direct IP or a VPN such as Tailscale. The host needs UDP port 7400 reachable (port forward or VPN).
- Both players need this same beta version.
- There is no lobby, matchmaking or ranked mode in this beta. Each online match starts a fresh game.
- If something goes wrong, the launcher can collect both players' logs for a bug report. Check them for personal details before sharing them.
Tested for this release
- Two PCs over the internet (route: TWO_PC_ROUTE), 15 minutes of Versus with sound and real controllers: TWO_PC_RESULT.
- This exact zip, built the way the launcher builds it: 6 minutes on a desktop PC.
- Rollback pairs on one PC, at 150 ms simulated ping, 5 ms jitter and 3 % loss, 6000 frames each: 0 mismatching frames in 6 of 6 runs of this source (2 of them with the build from this exact zip).
Known issues
- The intro movie music is rough.
- Online: one side can wait or roll back more than the other. We saw this with two games on one PC; the two-PC test above shows how it plays between real PCs.
- Online boots a fresh game for every match. There is no instant rematch yet.
- Short pauses at startup and after character select.
- Bright dots in the sand on the beach stage at high resolution.
Source and licence
The project code is GPL-3.0. The complete source is in the zip (folder T4), since the game is built from it on your PC.
SHA-256 of the zip: c12965a545e77c098bb4fd9e4a4cd819e02c9cdfa6724d8de4519dfe8b91dd93
Tekken 4 v0.1.0 (beta)
Tekken 4 Online v0.1.0 (beta, pre-release: test build). Tekken 4 (USA) running natively on Windows inside the OpenRecomp-FGC launcher: play offline, or online with rollback through a lobby with chat or by direct IP / VPN.
This is an early beta. Please read "Before you start" and "Known issues".
What is in this beta
- Tekken 4 USA only (SLUS-20328 v1.00), built on your PC from your own disc image. A European or other-region project is refused before anything is built.
- Offline: play as you would on the console, with a pad, with sound.
- Online lobby: a Tekken 4 lobby server is built into the launcher. You get a player list, lobby chat, Quick Match, challenges (accept or decline), and the match starts on both PCs. If a direct connection does not work, the match goes through a relay server after about 20 seconds.
- One account for both games: your Tekken 5 DR Online account works here (same name, same password). Register in either game and it works in both. If you are logged in to T5DR in OpenRecomp, a single press on Use your T5DR login signs you in. Ratings and ranks are kept per game. You can also play as a guest. With Remember me you stay logged in (cancel, decline, short drops and restarts no longer log you out).
- Direct IP / VPN: one player hosts (UDP port 7400), the other joins with the host's IP; or use a VPN such as Tailscale. The launcher checks build, compiler and disc and tests the UDP route before Start game is offered.
- Rollback netcode. Both players need exactly this beta version. New in this build: the time sync spreads a correction over 8 frames instead of one whole-frame pause, and the netplay statistics no longer cause a hitch every 10 seconds that grew with the session (both found in our two-PC test).
- Build page with automatic build tools: the launcher checks Visual Studio Build Tools, Git, CMake and Ninja and installs what is missing (winget) after one confirmation. The ISO is chosen in the Windows Explorer dialog.
- Everything in the launcher works with a pad, including the on-screen keyboard for names, chat and IP addresses. Mouse and keyboard work too. Seven languages; the first start uses your Windows language.
Not in this beta
- No ranked mode yet (the lobby is casual only), no rooms, friends, private chat, spectating or tournaments for Tekken 4. Chat is the lobby chat.
- No widescreen yet. 16:9 is being worked on and comes after this beta.
- No result file from the game: after a match each player reports won / lost / no result in the launcher; the lobby shows its verdict when both have answered.
- No instant rematch: online, every match starts a fresh game.
- European (PAL) and Japanese versions, and other disc versions, are not supported.
Before you start
- You need your own Tekken 4 USA v1.00 ISO (SLUS-20328). No game data, BIOS or ready-made game program is included.
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. To build the game: Visual Studio 2022 Build Tools ("Desktop development with C++"), Git, CMake 3.20 or newer and Ninja. The launcher's Build page offers to install what is missing. Python is included.
- Network: the lobby needs outgoing TCP 7791 and UDP 7791-7792 to the lobby server (already built in; you type nothing). Direct IP needs UDP 7400 reachable on the host (port forward or VPN).
Install
- Install OpenRecomp-FGC (Setup or zip, see the OpenRecomp-FGC v0.1.0 release) and choose Install Tekken 4 on the Tekken 4 tile. The launcher downloads this release's
T4folder, checks its checksum and signature and attaches it. (Testers: the launcher offers pre-releases of the games only while this one is a pre-release; it is the game's beta channel.)
Or downloadOpenRecomp-Tekken4-v0.1.0.zipfrom this release, unpack it into a new, empty folder, and double-clickOpenRecomp-FGC\run.cmd. - Tekken 4 > Build: choose your ISO, then Build game. The first build takes about 5 to 6 minutes. Look at the Build ID and the compiler version it shows when it is done.
- Play for offline. Return to the launcher by closing the game, or by holding View + Menu (Xbox) or Share + Options (PlayStation) for 2 seconds.
Online
Lobby
- Tekken 4 > Online. Choose Guest, Account (your T5DR name and password), Register, or Use your T5DR login. Passwords only travel over an encrypted, pinned connection.
- Say hello in the chat, press Quick Match or challenge a player from the list. Both players press Start match when asked.
- After the game, report the result. You return to the lobby.
- The lobby only pairs players with the same Build ID. While you search, the launcher tells you if the other players searching have another build. If you cannot be matched with a friend, compare your Build IDs (shown on your profile card).
Direct IP / VPN
- One player picks Host, the other Join and types the host's IP.
- Both press Run connection checks (up to 90 seconds). It compares build, compiler and disc and tests the UDP route both ways. Only then does Start game appear.
- Choose characters and stage in the game's own menus.
If something goes wrong, Collect online logs makes a zip on your PC. Look inside before you share it.
Test instructions (two PCs)
- Both PCs: the same release. Install Tekken 4 from the launcher (or the zip), Build game from your own ISO. Compare Build ID and compiler version on both PCs: they must be equal.
- Offline: one fight with pad and sound.
- Lobby: both log in (account, guest or Use your T5DR login). Player list and chat both ways? Challenge once declined, once accepted; try Quick Match. Does the game start on both PCs, direct or through the relay?
- Play 15 minutes of versus. Watch for stutter, pauses, a desync message, a hanging game. Is the speed steady?
- Cancel a search and decline a challenge: you must stay logged in.
- Direct IP (or VPN): Run connection checks, then Start game.
For a problem: Collect online logs on both PCs, and say lobby / direct IP / VPN.
Testanleitung (zwei PCs, Deutsch)
- Beide PCs: dasselbe Release.
Tested for this release
- This exact release, on a desktop PC (2026-11-04): the launcher's Setup installed, Install Tekken 4 took this release's zip with its real signature (a changed checksum or another version is refused), Build game from a Tekken 4 USA ISO through the launcher took about 9 minutes on a busy PC and the game starts; an offline fight (Arcade, stage 1) runs. The launcher refuses a non-USA tree.
- Lobby, with the live server's code on one PC (127.0.0.1): two launchers log in with a T5DR account, chat both ways, decline and accept a challenge, quick match, both real games play, results confirmed, back to the lobby. Direct and forced relay.
- Rollback pairs on one PC with 150 ms ping, 5 ms jitter and 3 % packet loss: 0 mismatching frames (earlier candidates).
- Two PCs over the internet: played on an earlier candidate on 2026-11-03; the speed hitches seen there (a pause every 10 seconds that grew with the session, whole-frame time-sync pauses) are fixed in this build, but this exact build has not been played on two PCs yet.
- Not tested yet: a clean Windows PC, PlayStation pads, Windows display scaling of 150 % in every language, the automatic build-tool install on a PC without them.
Known issues
- The intro movie music is rough.
- Online: one side can wait or roll back more than the other. We saw this with two games on one PC (random side, not the host).
- Every online match boots a fresh game. There are short pauses at startup and after character select.
- Bright dots in the sand on the beach stage at high resolution.
- No widescreen: the picture is 4:3.
