Retro Trivia v1.0.0
First standalone Retro Trivia release, ready for NetBBS and other hosts to vendor.
Vendoring
Download retro_trivia.py and SHA256SUMS from this release. The script is byte-identical to the file stored at tag v1.0.0. It requires Python 3.11 or newer and uses only the standard library. On systems with sha256sum, verify the download with sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS. Retain the repository's BSD 2-Clause license when redistributing.
NetBBS keeps its existing UTF-8 stdio protocol and host-provided metadata. Other BBS hosts can pass a DOOR.SYS or DOOR32.SYS path; see the README for launch recipes and encoding options.
Included
- DOOR.SYS and DOOR32.SYS metadata, safe caller-name handling, and 16-color fallback (#10; closes #2).
- CP437 output and an explicit encoding option, with UTF-8 preserved for NetBBS (#11; closes #3).
- Inherited DOOR32 socket transport on Windows and POSIX, telnet filtering, clean carrier-loss handling, and host connection preservation (#12; closes #4).
- Compatibility with the Windows Python 3.11 splash input probe (#13; closes #7).
- Standalone single-key play, actual terminal dimensions, and clean terminal restoration on exit and Ctrl-C (#14; closes #8).
Validation
The test matrix covers Python 3.11 and 3.13 on Linux and Windows, including real POSIX terminals and a real Windows console. Local Windows/Python 3.14 tests and the stdlib-only check also passed. Codex reviews were triaged for realistic user impact before merging.
Live Synchronet field testing remains maintainer issue #5: Linux stdio with CP437/UTF-8 clients and both drop-file formats, plus Windows DOOR32 full-round and carrier-drop checks. Automated inherited-socket tests pass; those live host configurations have not yet been field-validated.
