Boxmaker v1.0.0 — First stable release

Your computer Download
Windows (Intel, AMD, or ARM) Install through Microsoft Store
Mac (Intel or Apple Silicon) Download Boxmaker for macOS

The Windows web installer is signed by Microsoft, needs internet, and installs the version currently published in Microsoft Store. That version may differ from this release while the Store update is being certified.

What's new

  • An interactive 3D fallback works without WebGL or GPU acceleration, including macOS virtual machines.
  • Your last valid project is recovered automatically after closing or updating the app. Saving a project file remains optional during an update.
  • Stable updates are the default. macOS and Windows Velopack installations can opt into beta releases in Updates. Microsoft Store installations use the Store's stable updates.
  • macOS gains in-app update checks, verified update downloads, and installation with restart. Update checks on startup can be disabled.
  • Project formats 1–5 remain supported, with validation and migration in Rust, clear errors for damaged or newer projects, and measured-weight invalidation when geometry changes.
  • Rapid parameter edits keep only the latest pending calculation. Preview rendering runs when the view changes instead of continuously.
  • English and French cover new controls, validation errors, recovery, and update messages.
  • A note explains Bambu Studio's expected warning for 3MF files created outside Bambu Studio.
  • Boxmaker is open source under the MIT license.

Validation and installation notes

The maintainer confirmed printed closure and seal operation, loaded-box transport, Windows x64 installation/updates, macOS use, and Bambu Studio exports. Windows ARM64 is built in CI but has not been tested on a user device. See the validation record for scope and remaining limits.

The Mac app retains a free ad hoc signature, without Apple Developer ID or notarization. If macOS blocks the first launch, use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway after opening it. Move the app to Applications before updating. Users of Mac 0.8.x must install this DMG once to gain the updater. Its first real upgrade remains to be verified on a Mac.

Shipping estimates cover domestic Swiss shipments using the published 2026 rate table. Prices are hidden after its validity expires. Weigh the packed box and confirm postage with Swiss Post. The seal indicates normal opening; it cannot guarantee tamper resistance.

Only the Windows EXE and Mac DMG are manual installers. The *.nupkg, releases.win*.json, *-macOS-update.tar.gz, and mac-updater.json files are used by existing installations for updates. SHA256SUMS.txt contains the download checksums. Unsigned Store submission MSIX files are not published here.

Boxmaker v0.8.3 — English and French in the app

Your computer Download
Windows (Intel, AMD, or ARM) Install Boxmaker via Microsoft Store
Mac (Intel or Apple Silicon) Download the macOS DMG

The Windows web installer is signed by Microsoft. It requires an internet connection and installs the version currently available in Microsoft Store. The Store version may differ from this GitHub release until its update is published.

What's new: Choose English or French in the app. Boxmaker also detects your system language on first launch and remembers your choice. The Microsoft Store has listings in both languages. The README, user guide, and release notes are in English. Exported projects now default to boxmaker-project.boxmaker.json, and the complete three-part model downloads as boxmaker-all-parts-PLA.3mf. The other part exports already use English names. The Mac download badge now uses Boxmaker's logo.

Mac preview: The universal DMG is built and checked automatically, but has not yet been tested on a physical Mac. It has no Apple Developer certificate or notarization. If macOS blocks the first launch, use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway after opening the app.

The releases.win*.json and *.nupkg files support updates for existing Windows installations; they are not manual installers. SHA256SUMS.txt lists checksums for the attached files.

The printable seal remains a prototype. Test a real print and shipment before relying on it.

Boxmaker v0.8.2 — Native Windows ARM64

Historical release. Get the current Boxmaker version.

Your computer Download
Windows (Intel, AMD, or ARM) Install Boxmaker via Microsoft Store
Mac (Intel or Apple Silicon) Download the macOS DMG

The Windows web installer is signed by Microsoft. It requires an internet connection, chooses the appropriate architecture, and installs the version currently available in Microsoft Store. That Store version may differ from the version in this GitHub release's title.

What's new: Boxmaker now has a native Windows ARM64 build for ARM-based PCs, including Snapdragon devices. Microsoft Store chooses it automatically. The ARM64 build passed automated checks, but it has not yet been tested manually on an ARM PC.

Mac preview: The universal DMG passed automated build, disk-image, and ad hoc signature checks. It has no Apple Developer certificate or notarization, and installation and app features have not yet been tested on a physical Mac. macOS may require you to allow the first launch in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.

The releases.win*.json and *.nupkg files support updates for existing Windows installations; they are not manual installers. SHA256SUMS.txt lists checksums for the attached files.

The printable seal remains a prototype. Test a real print and shipment before relying on it.

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Sep 22:03

Boxmaker v0.8.1 — macOS preview

Historical release. For the current version, download Boxmaker v0.8.3. The unsigned Windows installer for this version has been removed.

Boxmaker is now available as a universal macOS DMG for Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Open the DMG and drag Boxmaker to Applications.

The Mac build has not been tested on a physical Mac. The build, disk-image integrity, and ad hoc signature passed automated checks. Installation, the interface, 3D preview, and exports still need a hands-on test. Please report issues in the issue tracker.

The DMG has no Apple Developer certificate or notarization. If you trust the file from this release and macOS blocks its first launch, try opening the app and then use System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Mac updates are currently downloaded from GitHub Releases.

For Windows, Boxmaker-Windows.exe is signed by Microsoft and installs the version currently available in Microsoft Store, which may differ from v0.8.1. The printable seal remains a prototype requiring a real print and shipment test.

The releases.win.json and *.nupkg files are required for existing Windows installations to update; they are not manual installers. Their hashes are listed in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Boxmaker v0.8.0 — Microsoft Store launch

Historical release. For the current version, download Boxmaker v0.8.3. The unsigned Windows installer for this version has been removed.

Boxmaker became available for free in Microsoft Store under the publisher name ThomasTP. This release includes Boxmaker-Windows.exe, a small Microsoft-signed web installer. It requires an internet connection and installs the version currently offered by the Store, not necessarily v0.8.0. Microsoft Store also handles updates for that installation. The unsigned MSIX submitted to Partner Center is not attached to GitHub Releases.

The interface now makes clear that the complete 3MF export contains three parts: box, lid, and printable seal. The seal geometry is unchanged from v0.7.0. Its transport strength and break behavior still need physical testing.

The releases.win.json and *.nupkg files are required for existing Windows installations to update; they are not manual installers. Their hashes are listed in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Boxmaker v0.7.0 — Flush printable seal

Historical release. The unsigned Windows installer was removed. Download the current Boxmaker release. The files attached below are retained for automatic updates of existing installations.

The printed seal was redesigned so it no longer protrudes from the side of the box. A small vertical lock sits within a rear corner, below the top edge. For ordinary box sizes, enabling the seal no longer changes the outer dimensions or useful cavity. Very narrow boxes grow only enough to keep the lock clear of the latch spring.

The lock prints flat and remains the third object in the complete 3MF. Insert it after packing and closing the box. The recipient breaks its visible head, presses the latch, and slides the lid open. The stem remains in the shell during opening and can be removed afterwards. A separate export lets you print a replacement lock.

For a 100 × 70 × 30 mm object with 5 mm padding, the outer size changed from 93.9 × 133.4 × 49.2 mm in v0.6.0 to 85.4 × 119.4 × 46.5 mm, with the same useful cavity. The engine now rejects a seal that intersects the box or lid or extends beyond the stated outer dimensions.

Projects saved with the previous seal load the new design automatically and clear their measured weight because the finished parcel must be weighed again. Projects without a seal keep their settings.

Experimental mechanical preview. Engagement, break force, transport strength, and stem removal have not been verified on a real print. Test with your PLA and printer profile before shipping. A visibly broken seal indicates normal opening but does not guarantee tamper resistance.

releases.win.json and the full .nupkg are update files, not manual installers. Their hashes are in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Boxmaker v0.6.0 — Printable shipping seal

Historical release. The unsigned Windows installer was removed. Download the current Boxmaker release. The files attached below are retained for automatic updates of existing installations.

The sliding box can now use a single-use seal printed entirely in PLA. Two hooked anchors join the box and lid. The recipient breaks the central tab before using the normal latch. No purchased component is needed.

The option is enabled in new projects and can be turned off. Older saved projects keep their seal-free geometry until you enable it. The complete 3MF contains three separate objects: box, lid, and seal. You can also export only the seal for a later shipment.

To pack a parcel, print the three parts, inspect slots and bridges in your slicer, load and close the box, and press the two seal heads into place. The recipient lifts and breaks the centre, then presses the latch and slides the lid. The remaining anchors can be removed from inside after opening.

Experimental mechanical preview. Digital geometry and exports were checked, but engagement, break force, transport strength, and resistance to removing the seal intact have not been verified on a real print. Test with your PLA, nozzle, and final box size before shipping. A visible break does not guarantee tamper resistance.

releases.win.json and the full .nupkg are update files, not manual installers. Their hashes are in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Boxmaker v0.5.0 — Refreshed workspace and simpler updates

Historical release. The unsigned Windows installer was removed. Download the current Boxmaker release. The files attached below are retained for automatic updates of existing installations.

The interface gains a blue-and-slate palette, a larger 3D preview, and clearer controls. The complete box-and-lid export sits near the top of the right panel, with a toolbar shortcut on narrow windows.

  • Removed the PLA-saving comparison with the earlier box.
  • Settings and shipping scroll in separate panels on wide windows, with a layout adapted for smaller ones.
  • Cavity and spring details collapse; the legacy model selector lives in advanced settings.
  • Numeric values are selected on focus for faster editing. Dialogs support keyboard navigation and Escape.
  • A change of printer or print-bed margin clears a previously entered parcel weight when it can change the selected orientation.

The Updates button is available in the toolbar. After downloading an update, Install and restart can proceed without saving the current model. Save project, then install remains a separate option. Download state survives closing and reopening the update dialog; restarting discards unsaved changes.

The Windows build and interface rendering were checked. At the user's request, the test suite was not run for this version; functional testing, including a real update cycle, remained outstanding. Mechanical geometry was unchanged from v0.4.0.

Boxmaker v0.4.0 — Box and lid in one file

Historical release. The unsigned Windows installer was removed. Download the current Boxmaker release. The files attached below are retained for automatic updates of existing installations.

The complete export now saves one 3MF containing the box and lid. This option is selected by default. The parts remain independent objects, placed flat with 15 mm between them, as in the print-layout view. You can move them separately in a slicer or place them on different plates. The file contains neither a print profile nor G-code.

  • Individual STL and 3MF exports remain available.
  • The legacy key-based model exports all three of its parts together.
  • A complete export is blocked if any part exceeds the selected printer's build volume.
  • Existing geometry, settings, and projects remain compatible.

Validation included 23 Rust tests, Biome, TypeScript, Clippy, browser checks, and inspection of downloaded two- and three-part files for object count, closed meshes, spacing, and placement at Z = 0. Bambu Studio imported and re-exported the two-part 3MF while preserving two independent printable objects. The layout is for inspection; arrange the build plate in your slicer.

The mechanical limitations from v0.3.0 still apply. releases.win.json and the full .nupkg are update files, not manual installers. Their hashes are in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Boxmaker v0.3.0 — Orientation-independent boxes and recalculated latch

Historical release. The unsigned Windows installer was removed. Download the current Boxmaker release. The files attached below are retained for automatic updates of existing installations.

Entering 100 × 70 × 30, 30 × 100 × 70, or any other permutation now produces the same box. The engine evaluates all six orientations, prefers those that fit the printer, then the lowest height. The 3D preview shows the object in the selected orientation.

  • A progressive latch, anchored near a rail and reinforced at its root, is sized by a beam calculation to target about 4 N of force. Deformation and stop travel are checked.
  • Object clearance defaults to 0.3 mm per face. Padding is separate and defaults to zero; the app explains the cavity and space reserved for the mechanism.
  • For a 100 × 70 × 30 mm object, the new defaults give a 70.6 × 100.6 × 30.6 mm cavity and about 42 g of geometric PLA. The 55.45 g figure from v0.2.1 included 5 mm padding per face, so these values are not a like-for-like material comparison.
  • Opening animation uses calculated deflection. Projects use save format v3.
  • Sliding v2 projects keep their padding but adopt the new geometry and clear measured weight. The legacy key-based model keeps its geometry.

The generic PLA estimate assumes a 3.1 GPa modulus and rigid anchoring; the approximately 4 N force still needs measurement on a real print. The chosen deformation limits are not certified fatigue limits. See the mechanism assumptions and test procedure.

Automated validation included 21 Rust tests for exact mesh invariance across input orders, analytical reference calculations, unlocking clearance, and STL/3MF integrity. Browser checks covered orientation, printer limits, postal rates, weights, exports, saves, and migration. Physical tests of force, fit, life cycle, and shipping strength remained outstanding.

releases.win.json and the full .nupkg are update files, not manual installers. Their hashes are in SHA256SUMS.txt.
