Boxmaker v0.3.0
Pre-releaseBoxmaker v0.3.0 — Orientation-independent boxes and recalculated latch
Historical release. The unsigned Windows installer was removed. Download the current Boxmaker release. The files attached below are retained for automatic updates of existing installations.
Entering 100 × 70 × 30, 30 × 100 × 70, or any other permutation now produces the same box. The engine evaluates all six orientations, prefers those that fit the printer, then the lowest height. The 3D preview shows the object in the selected orientation.
- A progressive latch, anchored near a rail and reinforced at its root, is sized by a beam calculation to target about 4 N of force. Deformation and stop travel are checked.
- Object clearance defaults to 0.3 mm per face. Padding is separate and defaults to zero; the app explains the cavity and space reserved for the mechanism.
- For a 100 × 70 × 30 mm object, the new defaults give a 70.6 × 100.6 × 30.6 mm cavity and about 42 g of geometric PLA. The 55.45 g figure from v0.2.1 included 5 mm padding per face, so these values are not a like-for-like material comparison.
- Opening animation uses calculated deflection. Projects use save format v3.
- Sliding v2 projects keep their padding but adopt the new geometry and clear measured weight. The legacy key-based model keeps its geometry.
The generic PLA estimate assumes a 3.1 GPa modulus and rigid anchoring; the approximately 4 N force still needs measurement on a real print. The chosen deformation limits are not certified fatigue limits. See the mechanism assumptions and test procedure.
Automated validation included 21 Rust tests for exact mesh invariance across input orders, analytical reference calculations, unlocking clearance, and STL/3MF integrity. Browser checks covered orientation, printer limits, postal rates, weights, exports, saves, and migration. Physical tests of force, fit, life cycle, and shipping strength remained outstanding.
releases.win.json and the full .nupkg are update files, not manual installers. Their hashes are in SHA256SUMS.txt.
