VolcaClock 1.0.3

Choose a tag to compare

@Touchnez Touchnez released this 19 Oct 12:47

The whole-icon measure flash is back to every 8 beats by default, and the menu now lets you choose the measure length (2, 4, 8 or 16 beats). The Downbeat submenu adapts to it.

Includes the 1.0.2 changes: live tempo in the menu bar (one decimal, only when synced to a Link peer), beat-synced blink (small metronome each beat, whole icon each measure, scheduled on the exact Link beat and following djay's grid), and an English menu.

Note: the measure flash follows the beatgrid djay broadcasts over Link, so it is only as accurate as djay's grid (on long mixes or badly analyzed tracks it can drift). The app is not signed by Apple (System Settings > Privacy and Security > Open Anyway).

VolcaClock-1.0.3.zip is the ready to run app. VolcaClock-1.0.3-source.zip is the full source (GPL v2).

Third release.

Menu bar tempo display:

  • The tempo now follows djay's changes and stays visible above 99.9 BPM.
  • Shown with one decimal, only when a real Ableton Link peer is present.
  • Larger, clearer metronome icon.

Beat-synced blink:

  • Each beat pulses the small metronome, each measure pulses the whole icon.
  • Pulses are scheduled on the exact Link beat time, so they stay on the beat.
  • The measure flash follows djay's bar grid through Link and adapts when the grid changes. An optional Downbeat menu corrects it if djay's downbeat does not match by ear.

The menu is now in English. The app is still not signed by Apple, so macOS warns you on first launch (System Settings > Privacy and Security > Open Anyway).

VolcaClock-1.0.2.zip is the ready to run app. VolcaClock-1.0.2-source.zip is the full source code (GPL v2).

Second release.

Fixes:

  • Fixes a hang that could freeze the app after a few minutes with some MIDI controllers. The app used to wake the main thread on every incoming MIDI message; it now filters on the MIDI thread and only reacts to the button you mapped.
  • Hardens the clock engine against an invalid Link tempo.

New:

  • The menu bar icon now shows the live tempo (one decimal) when it is synced to an Ableton Link peer.

The app is not signed by Apple (no paid developer account), so macOS warns you on first launch. Opening instructions are in the README: System Settings > Privacy and Security > Open Anyway.

VolcaClock-1.0.1.zip is the ready to run app. VolcaClock-1.0.1-source.zip is the full source code (GPL v2 license).
