Nearby Sessions: guests see Lark sessions on their network as cards and can press Request Access. The host approves or denies each request, and can remove a guest later.

Short Lark codes: the host can make a code like LARK-K7M2Q9X that works for 15 minutes on the same network. The guest types it in instead of pasting the long invitation, and the host still approves them.

Pasted Share invitations now work even when chat or email adds line breaks, quotes, or hidden characters, with clearer errors when one is incomplete or points at this computer only. Mac app downloads now use the new Lark.app layout.

Lark 4.0.6 — A More Refined Java Development Experience

Lark 4.0.6 introduces improvements to collaboration, Git integration, editor customization, and overall usability. This release focuses on making Lark more responsive, reliable, and enjoyable to use while maintaining its identity as a lightweight, focused Java IDE.

What's New

🐦 Lark Share — Bird Avatars & Collaboration

  • Selectable Bird Avatars: Choose a bird avatar to represent yourself in collaborative sessions.
  • Synchronized Participant Badges: Identify contributors through synchronized participant indicators.
  • Remote Cursor Labels: See which collaborator is working in a shared document.
  • Live Collaborative Editing: Edit Java files together with synchronized changes and participant presence.
  • Encrypted LAN Connections: Lark Share uses authenticated, encrypted communication.
  • Host Approval: Hosts control who joins their collaborative sessions.

💻 Integrated Terminal & Git Improvements

  • Real Shell Execution: Run commands directly from Lark's integrated terminal.
  • Git Support: Use commands such as git status, git add, git commit, git pull, and git push.
  • Project-Aware Terminal: Shell sessions run in the selected project's directory.
  • Improved Cancellation: Better handling of active terminal sessions and cancellation.
  • Private Input: Sensitive inputs can be masked and omitted from Lark's command history.

Terminal limitation: Lark uses pipes rather than a full pseudo-terminal. Some interactive SSH and credential prompts may require an external terminal or credential helper. Programs may still echo sensitive inputs.

🎨 Light Themes & Customization

  • Additional light color palettes for a brighter workspace.
  • Improved visual consistency across editor components.
  • Continued support for editor font, syntax highlighting, and appearance preferences.

🧭 Minimap Improvements

  • Minimap enabled by default on new installations.
  • Configurable minimap settings and optional disabling.
  • Easier navigation through larger Java files.

🛠️ Workspace & Interface Refinements

  • Improved tray resizing.
  • Better interaction with active input fields when adjusting panels.
  • General editor and workspace usability refinements.

Reliability & Security

Lark 4.0.6 continues improving reliability and security through:

  • Authenticated, TLS-encrypted Lark Share LAN sessions.
  • Host approval and participant permissions.
  • Archive integrity and dependency checks.
  • Embedded Java application version verification.
  • Windows installer payload verification.
  • SHA-256 validation for update packages.

The release packages passed automated artifact-integrity verification, and Windows installation and core functionality were manually tested.

Lark Mobile Discontinued

Lark Mobile is discontinued beginning with Lark 4.0.6.

Its host-dependent architecture did not provide the fully independent Java development experience originally envisioned for smartphones.

Development will now focus on Lark Desktop and Lark Executable.

Historical Mobile source code and previous releases remain available for reference.

Known Limitations

  • Terminal: Some interactive programs and credential prompts may require an external terminal.
  • Lark Share: Collaboration testing across separate physical computers is still recommended.
  • macOS and Linux: Platform-specific installation and runtime verification remain necessary.
  • Mobile: Lark Mobile is no longer actively developed or supported.

Downloads

Edition Description
Lark Desktop Recommended Windows edition with a setup installer and bundled Java runtime.
Lark Executable Portable Windows edition with a standalone launcher.

Future development will focus on:

  • More accurate Java autocomplete and code assistance.
  • Greater Lark Share stability and collaboration reliability.
  • Improved debugging and execution workflows.
  • Faster editor responsiveness.
  • More reliable installation and automatic updates.

Lark's mission remains simple: deliver a lightweight, focused Java IDE with powerful tools and without unnecessary complexity.

Thank you to everyone contributing to, supporting, and testing Lark.

Lark 4.0.5 — Share, Mobile & Stability

Choose a tag to compare

@TreyvoPrime TreyvoPrime released this 31 Oct 12:44

Lark 4.0.5 improves collaborative undo/redo, LAN diagnostics, Java completion, and mobile editing, execution and debugging. Mobile Share guests require host approval.

Install with LarkDesktopSetup.exe. Existing installations use the matching desktop, executable or mobile update ZIP; update.json contains versioned URLs and SHA-256 hashes. Full platform packages include Java.

Android APK is development-signed and requires a trusted HTTPS Mobile host. Browser-based Java runs on the host; LAN execution requires a Linux sandbox host with bubblewrap/util-linux and enabled namespaces.

Known validation limits: physical Windows/macOS/Android/iOS testing and successful sandbox namespace runtime testing remain outstanding. Full semantic Java completion is not included.

Lark 4.0.4 — Share scrolling fix

Choose a tag to compare

@TreyvoPrime TreyvoPrime released this 29 Oct 20:57

Lark 4.0.4 — Share scrolling fix

Fixes an issue where Lark Share synchronization repeatedly scrolled the editor back to the caret, making long shared files difficult to navigate.

  • Idle synchronization no longer resets editor selections or redraws file tabs.
  • Remote changes preserve horizontal and vertical scroll position.
  • Cursor moves and scrolling made while a network request is in flight are respected.
  • Multiple selections retain their primary cursor; background files do not restore another file’s viewport.
  • Explicit Follow still follows a participant; Stop following restores independent navigation.

Install or update

Use Check for Updates in Lark, then restart. Windows users can alternatively download LarkDesktopSetup.exe. Full Windows, macOS Intel x64, and Linux x64 packages include Java, the compiler, keytool, launchers, and Share assets. Update ZIPs reuse your installed JDK. Update both computers to 4.0.4.

Validation

Passed focused synchronization regression checks for idle polling, in-flight navigation, remote edits, multiple selections, background documents, Viewer navigation, and Follow. The 601 CRDT synchronization checks, 67 Share transport checks, and 326 Share editing checks also passed. Added a real-CodeMirror browser fixture and integration assertions; those browser tests were not executed in this environment because the test browser could not be downloaded and the cloud browser blocks local test-file URLs. Windows/macOS installation and physical two-computer acceptance testing remain unverified.

Verified the full Windows installer, all 16 archives, bundled Share assets, and updater checksums. The new scrolling regression test fails against the previous code and passes with this fix.
