Android Reverse — v20 Release Notes

This is the biggest update to Android Reverse yet. Version 20 turns the app from a pure analysis tool into a full round-trip editor: extract, inspect, edit, and rebuild an APK — all on-device.

🏗️ Round-Trip Editing & Rebuild

  • APK Rebuild — repack an APK directly from the app after making changes.
  • Resource Editing — edit app resources in place, not just view them.
  • AXML Editing — edit binary Android XML (not just the resilient decoding from before).
  • Manifest Editing — edit AndroidManifest.xml directly.
  • Signature Manager — create, import, and export JKS keystores, and sign rebuilt APKs.

🧬 Smali Tooling

  • Smali LSP — language server support for smarter navigation and editing.
  • Smali Editing — edit Smali directly in the app.
  • Smali Formatter — auto-format Smali code.
  • Smali Import / Delete — import new Smali files or delete existing ones.
  • Smali Copy Path — quickly copy a class/method's path for reference elsewhere.

📝 XML Tooling

  • XML LSP — language server support for XML editing.
  • XML Formatter — auto-format XML.
  • XML Search — search within XML files.
  • XML Syntax Highlighter — fixed highlighting bugs.
  • Data Converter for XML — convert data directly within XML, plus general data converter improvements.

🎨 Resources & Media

  • Res Layout Preview — preview Android layout resources visually.
  • Professional Image Editor — full image editing built into the app.

📂 File Management

  • Remove Files — delete files individually or in batch.
  • Extended File Properties — view more detailed metadata per file.
  • Export / Replace Files — export files out of an APK, or replace them in place.
  • Text Editor for Ordinary Files — edit non-code/plain files without leaving the app.

🤖 MCP

  • MCP can now edit everything in a project — compilation/rebuild remains a manual, user-triggered step.
  • Fixed several MCP-related bugs.

🔍 Search & Certificates

  • Improved Search — better performance and more accurate results across the app.
  • Certificate Details — added support for more certificate schemes.

Summary

v20 is about closing the loop: Android Reverse can now edit resources, AXML, the manifest, and Smali — then rebuild and re-sign the APK, all without leaving your device.
