Mod features service tags (dinnerware/item/plates, dinnerware/item/plates/regular, dinnerware/item/plates/one_tray_list, dinnerware/item/trays) that are used internally (for example to check for advancements), but are available; as well as the following customization tags:
By default, only edible items are allowed on plates. This can be disabled to allow any item/block on the plate.
However, If you only want to add a few items that are edible, but not compatible by default, they should be added to the dinnerware:additional_food item tag provided by the mod.
Note that adding items to this tag does not guarantee they'll be able to be eaten as that still relies on FoodProperties being present on item.

}When Fragile Plates option is enabled, any entity coliding with plates from the sides or from above will cause them to break.
However, mod provides a dinnerware:fragile_plate_ignored entity type tag. Any entity inside it will not trigger plate breaking. By default it contains minecraft:item, minecraft:fishing_bobber and minecraft:cat (1.1.0+).

}Starting with mod vesrion 1.1.0, certain blocks can be used by pistons to break plates while retaining contents inside as if it was broken with Silk Touch (also v1.0.0+) or scooped up. This allows for automation of plates breaking.
Any block added in the tag will also allow to do the same. Emptying the tag effectively disables the feature.
Getting inspired by Quarks iron rod for adding blocks breaking (regular/hard break) I thought End rod could be used to "soft-break" plates.
And for block that's available in the Overworld, but takes some effort to get and can be logically soft, I went with sponges (both).

}Due to 1.21.1 removing BowlItem class two new tags were introduced to check what food/drink items to forbid from being placed on the plate.
The mod checks if the food/drink "turns into" (a.k.a leaves after itself when consumed) any item from either of these tags (with slight differences, which are not yet relevant as of mod version 1.1.0) and if it does -- forbids it from being put into plate.
Respects additional_food tag (i.e. if the food is bowl food but is added to the tag, it can be placed on the plate).
