Dissidia 012 PC port v0.5.3 (developer preview)

A native PC port of Dissidia 012 Duodecim Final Fantasy (PSP, USA and Europe). The game's code is recompiled to
native code and runs on PortableKit's rebuilt PSP system and Vulkan
renderer. It is not an emulator.

No game data is included. You need your own copy of the game: the USA disc ULUS10566 or the European disc
ULES01505, as an .iso. Setup makes the game from it on your PC, and nothing made from it leaves your PC.

What's new in v0.5.3

Japanese voices (#8). With your own copy of the Japanese
disc (NPJH-50377) as an .iso, the characters speak Japanese while the text stays English.

  1. In the game's Options, select Japanese Voice Disc (under Voice) and choose the Japanese .iso.
  2. Voice Language appears under it: set it to Japanese. It takes effect when you leave Options.

Both settings are kept in settings.ini, not in your save
(README). The Japanese disc is only read for its voices:
the game itself still needs the USA or European disc.

Mouse camera (#14). The mouse now turns the camera. It
did nothing before, although the menu had Mouse settings.

  • In the free camera and on the world map, the camera turns as far and as fast as you move the mouse. Mouse
forward and back move the camera further and closer.
  • In lock-on, the mouse turns the camera as the right stick does. The game keeps lock-on facing your target, so
    it turns only so far.
  • Mouse sensitivity and Invert mouse in the port's menu (Esc) set it. Mouse must be on.
  • The right stick works as before, and you can use both together.

Bloom (#13).

  • No more blocky bloom with the Sharp texture filter. The game's glow is smooth with either filter.
  • A Bloom switch on the menu's Video page turns the game's soft glow over battles and the world map on or off.

Right stick on the world map. If you reversed the camera's horizontal direction in the game's Options, the right
stick turned the wrong way on the first world map after loading a save, until the first battle. It now turns the
right way from the start.

Everything else is as in v0.5.2.

Install

  1. Download Dissidia012-PC-Setup-0.5.3.exe below (76 MB).
  2. Run it. It is not code-signed, so Windows may say "Windows protected your PC": choose More info, then
    Run anyway.
  3. Choose the install folder and your .iso, and optionally the Battle BGM Maker. Setup then makes the game,
    which takes a few minutes.
  4. Play with the "Dissidia 012 (PC port)" shortcut in the Start menu. Esc, or L3 + R3 on a controller, opens the
port's menu with video, controls, audio and network settings.

You need Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), a graphics driver with Vulkan (any GPU from about 2016 on) and about 2.5 GB of
free disk space. Your saves are in data\ms0 in the install folder; back that folder up.

The first time you host or join, Windows may ask whether to let the game use the network: allow it on private
networks.

To check the download: its SHA-256 is in SHA256SUMS below.

Coming from v0.5.2 or earlier

Run this setup and install into the same folder. Your saves, settings, mods and texture packs stay. Setup compiles the
game's code again, which takes a few minutes. Both players of an online battle need v0.5.3: a v0.5.2 game and a
v0.5.3 game cannot battle each other.

The mouse camera needs Mouse on in the port's menu. If you set it off before, turn it on again.

Known issues

  • Japanese voices, not tried yet: movies, story scenes with voiced dialogue, the battle clips that stream from
the disc, the European disc, the Steam Deck, and an online battle between a player with them and one without.
    Reports are welcome.
  • Mouse camera, not tried yet: an online battle, split-screen versus, and the Steam Deck's trackpads.
  • Bloom: tried on the world map and four stages, not yet on the Steam Deck or in EX Bursts and story scenes.
Lights flickering while dashing (#13) has not shown here
yet. Order's Sanctuary's sky stays blocky with Sharp: that is its low-resolution cloud texture, not bloom.
  • European disc, not tried yet: its DLC, saves copied from PPSSPP's European folder, the Battle BGM Maker's
Make a PSP / PPSSPP ISO from it, the Steam Deck, and an online battle between a USA copy and a European one.
  • Online play is experimental. Only the Online Lobby's 1-on-1 battles are supported; Group Battle and the
Communications row (Friend Card exchange) are untested.
  • Not tried yet online: two Windows PCs on separate machines, the Steam Deck hosting (let the PC host), and a
router that answers only UPnP. Reports are welcome, with both players' logs.
  • Online needs a reachable host. Players behind a shared provider address (carrier-grade NAT, the rule on mobile
data) cannot host; the other player hosts, or both use a VPN.
  • The setup is not code-signed, hence Windows' warning above.
  • Windows "N" editions: Make a PSP / PPSSPP ISO needs Microsoft's Media Feature Pack (the encoder reads audio
through Media Foundation). Everything else works without it.
  • The PSP / PPSSPP ISO has not been tried on a real PSP.
  • DLC has been tried only decrypted; the port does not decrypt DLC still encrypted the way a PSP stores it. DLC
music shares the game's room for added tracks: with all 43 USA DLC tracks, mods can add 82 rather than 125.
  • Texture packs: PNG images only (no .dds, .ktx2 or .zim), and a replaced texture appears a frame late the
first time it is drawn. A pack made for the European release must list ULUS10566 in its [games] section.
  • Packs with hash = quick: a few textures that have a near twin in the pack, such as some logos and plain stage
textures, keep the game's own picture.
  • Steam Deck: the Windows setup has not been tried there. Make the Deck build on a Windows PC with
    setup.ps1 -Deck (guide); the
Battle BGM Maker is not part of it: make mods on the PC.
  • Expect occasional graphical glitches in effects; please report them with a screenshot. Native Linux is untested.

Building from source

setup.ps1 builds the port and the Battle BGM Maker from the repository: see the README's
Building from source and
docs/port/setup.md. After git pull, the
next run builds v0.5.3.

Earlier changes: v0.5.2 (the European disc,
older texture packs),
v0.5.1 (shop crash fixed),
v0.5.0 (online 1-on-1 battles,
HD texture packs, crash reports),
v0.4.0 (the Battle BGM Maker
program, DLC),
v0.3.0 (the Windows setup),
v0.2.0 (local split-screen versus),
v0.1.2 (saves move to and from PPSSPP),
v0.1.1.

Help and reporting issues

Report bugs on the Issues page. Say what you were doing, and add
a screenshot and the log, data\logs\D012Native.log in the install folder (and D012Native-crash.dmp beside it after
a crash). For online play, add both players' logs. If the setup itself failed, add game-code-build.log from the
install folder.

own disc; see NOTICE.md. Built on PortableKit by

the install.
