Thanks for the full writeup and video! Seeing the 79.7 vs 27.5 tok/s on the same file for a short chat is nice. The Gemma 4 with empty answers and thinking on looks like a bug on our side, 90 out of 236 is way too many. Can you send us one request that came back empty, i.e. the request body with max_tokens, and the lines for that request from the strata-gemma4 log file in your PolyStrata folder? The [strata] lines in the server window would help too, like thinking limited to and done: N tokens. A retest on the newest release would be nice! |

We hit this too — same card, and we've got the logs you asked @firetussin for, plus a control arm We ran into the exact same thing on 2026-10-21 during blind agent screens, on what's essentially the same setup (RX 6700 XT 12 GB, gfx1031, Ryzen + 32 GB; engine 0.1.45 at c54f0ea; model: Gemma-4-26B-A4B it QAT UD-Q4_K_XL + the QAT-paired 252 MB draft; ROCm 7.13 wheels, Linux). Counts from one screen run (30 request rounds, thinking on,
The request (m18 — its empty came on the very first request of the task, so the payload is nice and minimal: system + user, 1,464-token prompt): {
"model": "gemma-4-26b-a4b-qat-ud-q4_k_xl",
"max_tokens": 4096,
"temperature": 0.6,
"chat_template_kwargs": {"enable_thinking": true},
"messages": [
{"role": "system", "content": "You are a local personal assistant. Workspace: <scratch dir>. Runtime: Linux x86_64, Python ..."},
{"role": "user", "content": "Implement deep_get(obj, path, default=None) in solution.py. path is a dot-separated string ..."}
]
}Response: The log lines for that request: Where it looks like it breaks: Small caveat on the controls: Qwen and Tiel never reached their budgets at all (0 budget-reached events), so they never exercised the wrap-up path — what the comparison really shows is that the empty-answer outcome was Gemma-only here, not that other models wrap up correctly. Worth flagging beyond chat UX: in an agent tool-loop an empty response isn't an empty bubble — it lands as an assistant message with nothing in it. One of our blind quality-screen failures (m14) is downstream of exactly this: the final answer starts "the previous assistant response was empty … I then outputted (empty)" instead of writing the file it was asked to write. Also — @firetussin, funny to end up on nearly identical machines (your #52 writeup was the template for our results PR, too). If it's handy, it'd be great to compare notes: with two this close together, any difference in what we see probably points at config rather than hardware — either here in the thread or wherever's easiest. And we're glad to run the minimal repro above against current |

Hi all, I've been running PolyStrata on an RDNA2 card and wanted to share the full writeup. Thanks @VecSzn for the project and for merging the official results in #52.
Setup
26e4cb5(engine 0.1.45), 1 GB VRAM reserveSame-weight control vs Strata v0.1.45
Same Qwen3.6-35B-A3B UD-Q4_K_M file (SHA256-matched), 64K window, official speed suite:
Runtime and draft settings differ between the two, so this isn't an engine-only A/B.
Models tested: 6 of the 9 (Qwen3.6, Gemma4, LFM2.5, MiniCPM-V 4.7, Ornith 1.5, Tiel Coder). I didn't run GLM 5.3 Flash or DeepSeek V4 Flash: setup asks for at least 14 GB and 13.5 GB of VRAM.
Notes for other RDNA2 / 12GB users
reasoning_effort: "none"andenable_thinking: falseon every request. In its original mode it gave 90 empty answers out of 236 in my tests; with thinking off, 0.patch is under discussion; I haven't tested it.

I know there have been updates since
26e4cb5, so I plan to retest on a newer build. Happy to run something specific on gfx1031 if it helps.All reactions
