Important
macOS: The installer is not notarized by Apple, so the first start shows:
"Strahlender Installer" Not Opened: Apple could not verify "Strahlender Installer" is free of malware.
That is expected. If you do not trust the installer, you do not have to: the whole source code is public.
Read and analyze everything yourself. No tracking, no hidden code.
Allow the app once:
- Try to open the app and click Done (not Move to Bin).
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
- Confirm with your password and click Open. From then on it starts like any other app.
If macOS says the app is damaged, see the technical details below.
Windows: The installer is not code-signed. SmartScreen may show Unknown publisher.
Choose More info → Run anyway.
What is new
Windows
- Much shorter build paths (#28, #49, thanks u/erest0r). The build folder name shrinks from 60 to 26 characters and the compiled files use shorter names, so the default folder fits for user names up to about 20 characters. The installer keeps its own data in one short folder,
%APPDATA%\str-xnu, instead of%APPDATA%\Veemyu\strahlender-xnu-installer\data(30 characters less, the default build folder is 78 instead of 108 characters for a 5 character user name). Your installer settings are copied over on the first start; the old folder stays, and the game and your saves are not touched. Before, a default folder failed with 270 of 260 characters. - The path check at the start of a build now counts the game's deepest file too, so a too deep folder is reported at the start and not after the extraction.
- Builds from an older installer keep working with stored tools and bundles (no more profile/inventory mismatch).
- Reinstalling over an app from an earlier build works: the last step no longer stops with not this installer's unchanged Windows package after a complete build.
- Install tools can no longer be pressed again while the tools are downloading and unpacking, and the note about security software no longer claims it is checking game files at that point.
- Two installer windows can no longer break each other's Install tools (WinError 3 ... license-texts): one window prepares the tools while the other says so, and a failed setup shows the end of its error output in the log.
- Set
BDSP_INSTALLER_DATA_DIR(for exampleC:\bdsp) to move the build folder to a shorter place. - Build options (on the setup page) now choose the build folder and the install folder on Windows (#45). Before, a too deep folder said to choose another one but offered no way to do it.
- Name entry works without Switch firmware: a simple on-screen keyboard is drawn with a system font (#37).
- Mods:
mod.txtno longer names the mod folder with a\\?\prefix, which the game could not match when Documents is redirected, for example to OneDrive (#51).
All systems
- The firmware step now says when your
prod.keysis too old for the firmware (for example firmware 23.0.x needs a newer master key than the file has) and names both master key numbers, instead of only asking you to check the file (#44). Never prints key values. - After Install tools finishes, the Build app button fills over 7 seconds and then starts the build by itself, on every system. Cancel (or any change on the page) stops the countdown. Nothing starts by itself when the tools were already there, when a terminal step is still open, or for an iPhone/iPad build to a device.
- The build page no longer shows a scroll bar while the security software note is visible.
- Show installation folder no longer reports The installation folder couldn't be opened on Windows after it opened the folder (Explorer returns an error code on success), and a real failure names the folder in the log.
- The installer log is also written to a file (the newest 10 sessions in the
logsfolder of the installer's data folder), so it survives a crash or a closed window. - The log starts with your system details (version, platform, memory, disk space, graphics, tools), and a failed Install tools step stays on screen with its error, the step it stopped in, Copy log and Try again.
macOS
- Macs with 8 GB of memory and a 4 GiB Metal buffer limit (for example MacBook Neo) no longer close the game after 0.6 seconds with cannot wrap guest heap in a Metal buffer (#48, thanks AkiraChnl). Game builds already pick this up from
main; not verified on such a Mac.
Linux
- The game starts from its own folder without the launcher script and finds
img/,romfs/andmain.npdmnext to the executable (#26). - Opening folders from the installer works on desktops without
xdg-open(falls back togio; #35, thanks antonioag95). - The firmware step builds its decryption tool with the right target (#33).
- The build no longer stops with
/usr/bin/time: No such file or directoryon systems without thetimepackage. - Mods with an
exefsfolder (IPS patches,subsdk1), for example Luminescent Platinum, now build on Linux (#52). Before, the mod page said Building it is not supported and the build refused it. The mod gets its own app, launcher and desktop entry beside the game. - An XCI that holds the base game and the update now builds (#39): the update is picked from the container's own metadata, and a
hactoolthat is already installed is used instead of building one.
iPhone and iPad
- Installing with a mod: every copy stages its own loose files (#38).
- The exported IPA no longer contains
._metadata files (2676 of them, includingPayload/._BDSP.app), which made SideStore stop with Could not load unzipped app bundle at '._BDSP.app' (#43, maybe #31). The export checks its own IPA before it keeps it.
Known limits
- Installers 0.1.4 still create the long 60 character folder. Install 0.1.5 to get the shorter paths.
- macOS 14 and 15 are targeted but were not run on such a Mac. Please tell us if the app does not start there.
- Windows mod apps keep the 16:9 interface for the files a mod replaces.
- A rare start crash on the Mac (#2) was seen once in about 300 starts. Start the app again.
What you need
- Your own

What is new
Mods and iPhone/iPad
- Windows: mods such as Luminescent Platinum build as their own app (#27, thanks u/erest0r). Pick the mod folder on the mods page.
- iPhone and iPad: Export IPA now puts your game data inside the IPA (about 5.3 GB, only for your own devices, do not share it), so a sideloaded IPA runs on its own. A switch exports without game data. Installing from the installer still copies the data separately, as before.
- The iPhone/iPad app no longer starts without verified game data: it says what is missing and where to choose the game files, instead of closing silently.
Fixes
- Starter selection: the game no longer aborts after answering Yes on a Mac (#24), and on Windows and Linux the scene behind the starter circle is no longer torn into shards.
- macOS: the white cloud in the player's room is gone (#25).
- macOS: fewer crashes in the Metal shader compiler while textures are released.
- The aspect ratio fixes no longer block the starter question.
New
- Any aspect ratio: View → Aspect Ratio (16:9, 16:10, 4:3, 21:9, auto and device presets, iPhone/iPad in Settings). The picture renders natively, the UI and movies keep their proportions.
- The game window is named after the game in your system language (for example Pokémon Strahlender Diamant), plus the mod name for a mod app.
- Linux ARM64 builds (experimental, #23). GPUs without BC texture support get BC textures converted to ASTC; GPUs with BC keep native BC.
- Xcode 16 builds the apps (#29, thanks chasem-dev). Before Xcode 26 the app icon is a classic one without Liquid Glass.
- Minimum systems are macOS 14 and iOS 17.
The installer
- Named Strahlender Installer in the menu bar, the window title and the top left.
- Every build stage names what it is doing right now, Prepare game shows Step n of 5, and a long silent step says Still working with the time.
- The build log starts with a system report: operating system, hardware, graphics card and driver, Xcode and tools, disk space, Windows long paths and Defender. It stays on your computer, names are masked, and it is in the log only if you share the log.
- Windows: a work folder that is too deep is reported before the build instead of failing in the middle (#28). If it happens, choose a shorter folder such as
C:\bdsp. - Windows: the mods page names the folder that is really used.
Known limits
- macOS 14 and 15 are targeted but were not run on such a Mac. Please tell us if the app does not start there.
- Windows mod apps keep the 16:9 interface for the files a mod replaces.
- A rare start crash on the Mac (#2) was seen once in about 300 starts. Start the app again.
- The IPA with embedded game data was checked on a Mac, not on a device. Sideload tools may be slow with a 5.3 GB file.

What is new
- Shaders are prepared from your own game files while the app is built (Mac, iPhone, iPad), so the first start does not compile them while you play.
- Copying the game data to an iPhone or iPad shows files, size, speed and time left.
- Windows: no empty console window any more, and "Prepare your computer" shows what it downloads with size, speed and time left.
- The build shows its total time, and Firmware, Prepare game and the iPhone/iPad movie libraries report their progress.
- iPhone and iPad builds keep the FFmpeg libraries, which saves about 45 s per build.
- Windows: "Prepare your computer" works again where Python rejected a certificate (#12, thanks u/erest0r) or GitHub's rate limit blocked the lookup (#15, thanks u/FlyingPotatoSaucer), and no longer stops with "Access denied" while Defender scans a download (#17, thanks u/FlyingPotatoSaucer).
- Game extraction and the firmware stage work with a
prod.keysfrom newer firmware (tested with 22.5.0), which made hactool reject the whole file (#18 u/Unique-Foundation-67, #19 u/Raider_28). A failed extraction now names the problem with your keys. - Linux: on Arch and SteamOS the installer and
install-linux.shdownload the Vulkan Memory Allocator header (pinned version, SHA-256 checked, no AUR needed), and the setup log names every missing requirement and the check that failed (#20, u/Weird_Speed7830). - Windows: the installer waits while Windows scans its unpacked files instead of reporting a missing Python runtime, and names the real reason if unpacking still fails (#16 @nebraskabirdwatching-pokemon-firered, #22 u/Aris_989).
- Windows: the game installs faster, and F11 or Alt+Enter toggle borderless full screen.
- A settings menu (gear icon) lets you choose the installer language.
- The Settings page of the iPhone and iPad app shows every text in every language.

From your game files to your own app
The first Strahlender Installer preview is here: a small, native Rust/Iced
app that guides you through building Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl for your
devices. Drag in your files, choose a target, and follow the build as it happens.
Pick your download
| Your computer | Installer |
|---|---|
| Mac · Apple Silicon and Intel | installer-macos-universal.zip |
| Linux · x86_64 | installer-linux-x86_64.AppImage |
| Linux · ARM64 | installer-linux-aarch64.AppImage |
macOS: unzip and open Strahlender Installer.app. These preview builds are
ad-hoc signed and not notarized; macOS may require you to allow the app in
System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Linux: mark the AppImage as executable and open it. An AppImage is a single
application file and needs no ZIP or tar archive. Where FUSE mounting is
unavailable, its built-in --appimage-extract-and-run option can run it by extraction.
A small app, a visible build
- Step-by-step views for your keys, base game, optional update and mods.
- Automatic
prod.keysdiscovery in standard emulator folders, with manual
selection and remembered file choices when you need them. - Native Mac and Linux game builds; Mac-hosted iPhone/iPad builds are also
connected, with Xcode/device setup required. - Separate extraction, code generation, compilation and installation phases,
real file counters, and an expandable, copyable build log. - Dark mode by default, optional light mode, and bundled fonts and icons.
The installer includes its own Python runtime: no Rust or Python installation
is needed to open it.
Complete GUI game builds have been confirmed on macOS and Nobara Linux. Each
download is built on its native architecture and checked in GitHub Actions.
Bring your mods, too
Select the whole downloaded mod folder: the installer finds its RomFS and ExeFS
content. Pure RomFS mods need no rebuild and can also be copied through your
file manager. Supported ExeFS/IPS/IPS32 mods use an isolated code build; a
separate mod app can keep its own identity, icon and save.
Mod integration has been exercised with Luminescent Platinum, including its
own artwork. Full Lumi playthrough validation remains in progress. Code-mod
builds currently target Mac and iPhone/iPad from a Mac; Linux ExeFS mod builds
are not available yet.
What this preview needs
Bring your own prod.keys, base game and optional update. These downloads
contain no game files or keys. Building the game still requires platform build
tools; the setup check explains missing dependencies and provides guided setup.
First-use dependency installation on fresh systems is still being validated.
Game builds download the current main source when you start a build. The
installer itself is versioned separately. Windows installer downloads and the
Android backend remain future work. Automatic installer replacement is not
enabled in these initial downloads; newer installers are available through
GitHub Releases.
SHA256SUMS contains the download checksums. The exact installer source revision
is linked below; build metadata stays inside the CI workflow.

download is built on its native architecture and checked in GitHub Actions.
SHA256SUMS contains the download checksums; installer-build.json identifies
the exact installer source revision.
