SteamU v0.2.0
SteamU's biggest update yet. Almost every screen is now our own. On first launch, the "What's new" pages show you
around, and you can see them again anytime: Settings, SteamU, What's new.
What's new
- Settings: all your console settings, in a page made for SteamU. The row of tiles at the top stays, LB and RB
switch sections, and SteamU is a section like the others. - Storage: a redesigned page. Your drives, all your games, freeing up space, picking several games at once.
When you uninstall a game, you can see how it is going. - Controllers: a redesigned controllers page.
- A brand new shop: a shop made for SteamU, with the whole Steam catalogue. Buying still happens on Steam's own
page. - Your wishlist: your account's real wishlist, in the shop.
- Plugins and themes: they have their own shop too, right next to the games. Plugins from outside the Decky
Store are still listed, but installing them is off by default. - Mii SpotPass: your Mii travels and other Mii come to say hello. It stays off until you turn it on. Only your
card is sent (your Mii, a nickname you choose, a sentence, your region), never your Steam account, friends or
games. You can remove or report a Mii you met. - Mii Maker makeover: a simpler, faster interface, with a search through your Mii.
- A livelier plaza: new icons, Mii that come to life, a new floor, closer and wider zoom steps, and the wheel
turns with your finger. - The library: your games on shelves. You can create, fill, rename and delete your collections.
- Your theme colours: windows, questions and even stick lights use your colour. Inside an app, its windows use
the app's colour. - Smoother: menus open faster and stay smooth, even at low power.
- Our own startup: a short SteamU logo video, light, grey or black to match your look, instead of Steam's home
screen. - Our game page everywhere: Steam's game page is replaced, even when a launch fails.
- HOME Menu in game: resuming the game is faster, without going through another plugin.
- Importing your files: system sounds can also come from the sound banks of a backup of your own console.
tar.bz2 and tar.xz archives open, and an archive we cannot read is reported.
Notable fixes
- The home screen remembers the order of your games: a streamed game that goes away no longer leaves a hole, it
takes its place back when it returns (#9). - Shortcuts from outside Steam no longer show as empty tiles: their name first, then their icon.
- An empty slot added by mistake can be removed.
- Account screen: one press of A picks the profile, and the avatar no longer disappears after a restart.
- Volume and brightness have their own indicator, in the HOME Menu too; Steam's no longer shows up as a second one.
- Launching a game shows "Launching…".
- Sounds import on SteamOS with nothing to install: the missing tool is now included (#11).
- A downloaded theme no longer falls back to the starting theme, and SteamU tells you whether a theme really has a
background picture. - Only one music at a time, even at startup and on the welcome pages.
- Leaving an app really closes it: open it again and it starts from the beginning.
- With your finger, the edge of a button works too, and a long press no longer opens the browser menu.
- A touch no longer opens the search by mistake ("1" or "2" typed on their own).
- Unifideck: Xbox Cloud games have their small cloud, and a game whose status is unknown is no longer shown as
installed. - With no imported file at all, everything stays tidy: what needs one sends you to Import.
Install or update
- You already have SteamU 0.1.8 or later: a notification offers the update, one press is enough.
- Otherwise: Decky, Developer, "Install Plugin from ZIP File", and pick
SteamU-v0.2.0.zip.

SteamU-v0.2.0.zip.

- Home screen: Xbox Cloud Gaming games from Unifideck now appear as playable, with a small cloud showing they are streamed. Thanks @lieserlV (#10).

SteamU v0.1.9
Updates from the interface: this version updates itself. When a new version is out, a pinned notification appears in SteamU: "See more" shows what's new, "Install" installs it through Decky. You can turn the check off in Settings, SteamU, Privacy.
- Launching a game from the home screen no longer goes through Steam's game page and its loading spinner: SteamU's launch screen stays until the game's first picture, and when the game closes you are back on the home screen (B no longer leads into Steam).
- Plaza: icons no longer disappear when the plaza is opened again quickly.
- Home screen: the Miis get the same fix (their clock no longer runs backwards when the screen opens).
- SteamU's own apps open with a 1 to 1.5 s launch screen.
- Home screen: games from Unifideck (Epic, GOG, Amazon...) that are not installed are recognised as such. Thanks @lieserlV (#7).

SteamU v0.1.8
Updates from the interface: this version updates itself. When a new version is out, a pinned notification appears in SteamU: "See more" shows what's new, "Install" installs it through Decky. You can turn the check off in Settings, SteamU, Privacy.
- SteamU can now update itself from GitHub. When a new version is out, a pinned notification appears; "See more" shows what's new, and "Install" installs it through Decky.
- You can turn off the update check in Settings, SteamU, Privacy.
- If SteamU's safety net has to stop it, a short crash report is saved in your Downloads folder by itself, and a notification tells you about it the next time it starts.
- Crash reports now include Decky's log.
- HOME Menu: "Close Software" works again without the Pause Games plugin (reported on a ROG Ally).
- Resetting SteamU and "Erase everything" now ask you to pick between two real buttons, with "Cancel" chosen first: pressing A twice no longer erases everything.
- Themes, "Delete theme": B cancels the request instead of closing the panel, and the A key is drawn on the chosen button.
- HOME Menu and quick settings: they no longer leave work running in the background once closed, and the paused game's picture no longer takes memory afterwards.
- Resuming a game no longer resumes it twice in a row.
- Texts that stayed in French are now translated: HOME Menu, quick settings, friends, your page, notifications, folders, game page, themes, arcade, casino, Mii Maker, plaza and credits.
- Dates and times follow Steam's language.
Install

SteamU v0.1.7 (test)
This old version cannot update itself. Install the latest release once; from v0.1.8 on, SteamU updates from its own interface.
- No more double sign-in screen: when Steam has just shown its own "Who's playing?" (and PIN), SteamU skips its welcome screen (#2).
- Settings → Storage: the selected game row is readable in light mode (#3), and the game list now fills the card (several games visible instead of one).
- Game logos no longer flicker on zoom changes and scrolling.
- While a game is in the foreground, SteamU pauses its home screen, Miis, animated background and animated tiles (about 100 frames per second of GPU time given back to the game).
- Lower idle CPU on the home screen with large libraries; below 8 W of TDP the animated background and animated tiles hold still.
- Changing the grid zoom quickly no longer stutters; at 5 to 8 rows, tiles no longer touch.
- Plaza: Miis talk much less, speech bubbles vary and come with long silences; a short fade between the plaza and the home screen.
- CSS Loader battery themes no longer mix with SteamU's battery icon; LEDs no longer cause a small hitch every 10 seconds.
- Updating SteamU without restarting Steam no longer breaks the top bar; play time on the game page is rounded to the minute.
Install
- Download SteamU-v0.1.7-test.zip below (Assets).
- In Decky Loader: Settings → Developer → Install plugin from ZIP file, pick the zip.
- Restart Steam (or the console).

SteamU v0.1.6 (test)
This old version cannot update itself. Install the latest release once; from v0.1.8 on, SteamU updates from its own interface.
- Tested on Bazzite KDE in Desktop Mode with Big Picture at login.
- SteamU now waits until Steam has finished signing in (account choice, PIN) before showing anything (#2).
- Light mode: Steam texts that stayed white on light backgrounds now follow the theme's text colour (#3).
- On a new home grid, system apps (Customize, casino…) come first; Settings → SteamU → Troubleshooting → Move system apps back to the beginning does it on an existing grid (#4).
- No battery shown on machines without one (#5).
- Library: the category row scrolls when there are many categories (Unifideck…), thanks to @lieserlV (#6).
- Tiles no longer flicker or turn blank on zoom changes and scrolling (logos may still flicker briefly).
Install
- Download SteamU-v0.1.6-test.zip below (Assets).
- In Decky Loader: Settings → Developer → Install plugin from ZIP file, pick the zip.
- Restart Steam (or the console).
Please use this zip rather than building SteamU yourself from the source code.
SteamU v0.1.5 (test)
This old version cannot update itself. Install the latest release once; from v0.1.8 on, SteamU updates from its own interface.
- Main fix for issue #1: the home screen no longer decodes full-size game artwork. Each tile shows a copy shrunk to its on-screen size, made in a bounded queue (tiles on screen first) and kept between sessions. Custom and animated artwork (SteamGridDB, non-Steam shortcuts) is shrunk too; animated artwork shows its first frame. Large libraries (hundreds or thousands of games and shortcuts) no longer load everything at once.
- Startup is lighter, and SteamU stops loading right away when its crash safety triggers.
- Diagnostic report: also records your library size, Game Mode or Desktop Mode, and the crash-related lines of Steam's logs. If the home screen won't open, use the button from the Decky panel (Quick Access → Decky → SteamU → Diagnostic report).
Install
- Download SteamU-v0.1.5-test.zip below (Assets).
- In Decky Loader: Settings → Developer → Install plugin from ZIP file, pick the zip.
- Restart Steam (or the console).
