No breaking changes, so 0.12.2 and 0.13 work together. Self-hosters, update your relay too, so it handles big servers with far less traffic and keeps its memory use within a set limit.
SECURITY
- Our own security review of Hollow is finished, and its full report is published
- Images from other people pass a safety check before Hollow shows them, and HEIC and AVIF images can't be shown for now
- Each member's encryption keys in a server now renew regularly
- Important security fixes for the relay, servers and your devices
VOICE & CALLS
- On Windows, joining a voice room or a call no longer turns down your music, videos and games
SERVERS
- Sending a message costs about the same in a full server as in a small one
- A server holds up to 512 people, and the invite dialog says when it is full
- Joining a server or opening a channel uses much less data, and long histories load faster
- Keeping track of who is online uses far less data
- Fixed a new member of a busy server sometimes never seeing the channel history
- Escape always closes server settings
YOUR DEVICES
- Removing a device now reaches your contacts through your direct messages, even after you go offline
- A device you remove while it is online now locks at once and starts its three-day erase
- The "added a new device" alert now stays until you read it, even if that device has been removed since
- Fixed re-adding a friend right after removing them sometimes being undone
- Fixed a server change made on two of your devices at the same moment sometimes getting lost
CHAT
- On macOS and Linux, pressing Enter while typing Japanese, Chinese or Korean finishes the word instead of sending it half-typed
- Up and Down now move the cursor when you edit a message
SELF-HOSTING
- A new setup wizard installs your own relay on Ubuntu or Debian with one command,
sudo bash relay-uws/install.shfrom a clone of the repository, as the self-hosting guide explains - Run
sudo hollow-relay-setuplater to update the relay or change its settings - The wizard also sets up TURN, push and the media forwarder, and secures the machine the same way as the official relay
- A relay you set up by hand or with Docker can move to the wizard and keep its settings and keys
- You can leave the online count and traffic figures off your relay's public stats page
