The first public beta of Media Ctrl. Everything is over Bluetooth now. The USB cable powers the board and is used for flashing and diagnostics.

What's new

  • Three devices at once. An iPhone, an iPad and a Mac stay connected together, and the board remembers six.
  • Devices screen. Hold the top right of the screen to see every connected and saved device, tap one to switch, pair another, or forget one. The board also follows whichever device starts playing, and pausing never moves it.
  • Forget one device without disturbing the others. About's button is now Forget all devices.
  • The top right names the device: "Spotify iPhone", "YouTube iPad".
  • Mac over Bluetooth: play/pause, previous, next and volume, sent to whichever app played last. No track info yet; a Bluetooth helper is planned.
  • New look: amber play button, a volume slider, and a More button.

Flash it

  • media-ctrl-x0.3.0-cyd2usb.bin at 0x0: a clean install. Devices paired before need to forget Media Ctrl and pair again.
  • media-ctrl-x0.3.0-cyd2usb-app-0x10000.bin at 0x10000: an update that keeps pairings.

Beta notes: Windows and Android are untested. The Windows helper in windows-helper/ isn't used yet. See the docs and the changelog.

An iPad media remote for the ESP32 Cheap Yellow Display: now playing, transport and volume over Bluetooth. No app on the iPad.

Flash: media-ctrl-v0.1.1-cyd2usb.bin at 0x0 (USB-C / 2-USB board). Starts with a clean pairing table.
Update without re-pairing: media-ctrl-v0.1.1-cyd2usb-app-0x10000.bin at 0x10000.

What's new in v0.1.1

  • The board advertises as a keyboard, so it shows up in a Mac's Bluetooth settings. The iPad keeps its on-screen keyboard.
  • Pair another device (About screen): releases the current host for 60 s so a second iPad, iPhone or Mac can pair.
  • Pairing and keys-only screens now cover the Mac as well as the iPad.

v0.1.0

  • Portrait UI: Now playing, More, Nothing playing, pairing and About; green accent.
  • HID media keys plus an Apple Media Service client: app, title, artist, progress, volume, shuffle and repeat, plus skip ±15 s and like.
  • Random static address with recovery from stale bonds; flip screen; backlight dims after 2 min; #alive heartbeat.

On a Mac it works as media keys only (macOS doesn't publish Now Playing to accessories). Unofficial; not affiliated with Apple or Spotify.
