• 改进图注与图表区域关联；保留原文引用的预览和跳转链接。
• 论文导读支持简短导读、关键结果、图表入口和多条原文证据，区分论文局限与 AI 解释。AI 导读需自行配置可用的模型服务，不包含 API 额度。
• 增加离线阅读文件导出；本地版面引擎仍为可选实验功能，不会自动安装。

下载附件 BiRead-0.1.28-beta.5.xpi，在 Zotero 的“工具 → 插件 → 从文件安装插件”中选择它，重启后重新打开论文。

无需手动清空缓存。解析版本升级后会自动重新解析，保留已有翻译缓存。本版本仍通过发布页手动更新。

验证与限制

185 项自动回归测试通过；浏览器检查覆盖中英文及原 PDF 标注同步、引用跳转。现有两篇论文共 33 页完成离线解析回归；实际长表格页面验证了表头及 12 条术语定义的行列结构。

本次未对该长表格调用在线翻译服务，验证的是解析结构和阅读界面，不代表所有 PDF 均可准确识别。扫描页 OCR、复杂合并单元格及跨页表格仍存在限制。手机 App 不包含在此次桌面发布中。

沉浸式阅读恢复每段上方的淡色小标题，例如「第 5 页 · 正文」「第 5 页 · 章节」和「第 1 页 · 作者信息」。点击右侧「原文定位」可返回原 PDF。段落沿用 beta.10 的紧凑间距。

验证与已知问题：类型检查及浏览器中的段落标签显示检查通过。PDF 对照模式仍有一项性能检查未通过：更新第一页译文时，测试观察到第二页也发生了界面更新。

不要手动清除 BiRead 缓存。 新解析与译文缓存会按版本自动更新，已有标注关联需要保留。此版本通过发布页手动更新。

验证与已知限制

153 项自动测试通过；实际本地模型已复测两条原先因长度超限失败的标注；浏览器集成检查覆盖公式旁选区、中英文标注联动、对照模式和重新打开后的恢复。

BiRead 0.1.24-beta 改进论文结构识别、公式保真和完整图表显示，替代 0.1.15-beta。此版仍为测试版，复杂版式下仍可能出现识别或排版问题。

• 作者、机构和参考文献使用独立标识，减少被当作正文或章节的情况。
• 改进数字编号、罗马数字章节、多层小节及换行标题的识别。
• 复杂公式、矩阵、分数及上下标保留 PDF 原图；行内公式嵌入原段落，并移除重复的符号碎片。
• 每页仅渲染一次再裁切公式与图表，减少公式密集页的加载超时；加载失败提供重试，不展示乱码公式作为替代。
• 改进页眉、页脚、会议横幅、ISBN 和版权信息过滤。

下载下方 BiRead-0.1.24-beta.xpi，在 Zotero 插件管理器中选择“从文件安装插件”，安装后完全退出并重启 Zotero，再打开 BiRead。

升级后自动重新解析旧版文档缓存，无需删除个人标注、词汇表或原 PDF。插件自身的后台自动更新仍未启用。

验证与已知限制

• 94 项自动测试通过，主工程与测试类型检查、格式检查、构建检查通过。
• 使用 7 篇真实论文共 96 页检查解析器、原生 PDF.js 渲染与阅读器组件；126 个原图预览成功加载。
• 两张无可选文字的扫描页保留原页，未进行 OCR 或自动翻译。
• 行内公式更新测试使用受控译文，未调用在线翻译服务；未完成本版在实际 Zotero 窗口中的安装验收。
• 自动版面识别仍存在局限，不能保证所有论文的所有公式、图表和章节均被正确识别。

This beta improves author/affiliation classification, hierarchical headings, page-furniture filtering, and complete caption-associated figures. Complex equations retain their original PDF pixels; inline math stays in prose. Rendering each page once reduces timeouts on formula-heavy pages, and failed previews offer retry instead of displaying garbled formula text.

Validation: 94 automated tests passed; seven real papers (96 pages) produced 126 successfully loaded original-region previews. Two scanned pages remain in their original form. Translation-update checks used controlled fixtures, not an online provider. Live installation acceptance in Zotero is still pending, and complex layouts may still be misclassified. Install the XPI manually and restart Zotero; existing annotations and glossary data are retained.

• Manual binding and rebinding remain available. Automatic phrase boundaries can still be imperfect.

Install the XPI through Zotero's add-on manager, then fully quit and restart Zotero. Rebind existing incorrect annotations manually, or delete and recreate them; this update does not rewrite existing annotations.

Validation: 52 tests passed, with a real local-model check using the reported text. The user confirmed the installed build works. This remains a beta; alignment accuracy is not guaranteed for every paper.

• 普通翻译不需要安装模型；模型运行本地，不需要对齐 API 密钥。正文翻译仍使用原先的服务。

One-click offline alignment setup is now available on Windows x64. No separate Python installation, terminal commands or JSON editing is required.

Update the XPI, open BILINGUAL → settings → 一键安装本地模型, and wait for the completion message. The first download is about 194 MB; allow 1 GB of disk space. Files come from Python.org, PyPI and Hugging Face, are SHA-256 verified, and the standalone runtime is tested before activating the configuration. Failed setup can be retried; verified downloads and working installations are reused.

Translation works without this optional model. Alignment runs locally; ordinary translation provider terms still apply. Manual configuration, phrase rebinding and autosaved comments remain available. Automatic phrase matching can still be wrong.

Manually verified on Windows / Zotero 10.0.6: first installation, reuse, and English-to-Chinese / Chinese-to-English annotation examples. Automatic installation on other platforms is not supported yet. Beta release.

• Simplified the context menu to Highlight, Underline and Comment while preserving the text selection.
• Added optional offline contextual phrase alignment, bidirectional phrase links, and manual rebinding for existing annotations. A unique phrase from the same paragraph can also be entered manually.
• Comments now save automatically as you type. Closing the editor or switching annotations waits for pending saves; the Save comment button is removed.
• Exact phrase links are retained. Unreliable matches remain one-sided instead of expanding to a whole sentence.

Install BiRead-0.1.1-beta.xpi through Zotero Tools → Plugins → Install Plugin From File. Automatic updates are not enabled.

The optional model, Python and dependencies are not bundled or downloaded by the XPI. Existing local configurations continue to work; see biread/BILINGUAL.md for setup. Without a model, local known pairs and manual binding remain available. Alignment can still be incorrect. Phrase mappings and local translated annotations do not sync through Zotero.

Manually checked on Windows / Zotero 10.0.6: context-menu annotations, bidirectional phrase links, manual correction, and typed comments retained after closing and reopening the editor. Other platforms and the full declared Zotero version range have not been tested. This remains a beta release.

BiRead 可独立使用，无需另装 zotero-pdf-translate（Translate for Zotero）。两者使用不同的插件身份，但本测试版不建议同时启用，以免出现重复的翻译弹窗或批注控件；使用 BiRead 时请停用上游插件。BiRead 不会自动停用或卸载其他插件。

已知限制

This is BiRead’s first public beta, bringing English–Chinese PDF reading and annotations into Zotero. The plugin is still being improved, and bug reports are welcome.

Highlights

• Immersive reading: bilingual, Chinese-only, and English-only views with adjustable font size and line spacing.
• PDF comparison: the original PDF beside translated text, preserving page structure and heading hierarchy where extraction allows.
• Translation and caching: progressive translation, pause/resume, local caching, and a per-document glossary.
• Annotations: highlights and underlines linked to Zotero annotations in the source PDF.
• Figures and tables: original extractable images, local previews for some vector figures, and reconstruction and translation of some text-based tables.
• Abstract heading fix: separates the Abstract label from its prose and translates the heading as “摘要”. Older extraction caches are rebuilt when reopening a document.

Installation and use

1. Download BiRead-0.1.0-beta.xpi from this release’s assets. You do not need the source-code archive.
2. In Zotero, open Tools → Plugins → gear menu → Install Plugin From File…, select the file, and restart if prompted.
3. Choose a translation provider in BiRead’s settings and enter any credentials it requires.
4. Open an English PDF with selectable text and click BILINGUAL in the reader toolbar.

BiRead works standalone; zotero-pdf-translate (Translate for Zotero) is not required. The two have separate add-on identities, but simultaneous activation is not recommended in this beta because translation popups or annotation controls may be duplicated. Disable the upstream plugin while using BiRead. BiRead does not automatically disable or uninstall other plugins.

BiRead stores its settings and provider credentials separately and does not migrate or delete upstream settings. Users of the upstream plugin or earlier development builds need to configure BiRead again. Updates are manual in this beta; automatic updates are not enabled.

Known limitations

• This is beta software. Reading order, headings, figures, and tables may be misidentified in complex PDFs, and layout fidelity is not guaranteed.
• Scanned PDFs without selectable text are unsupported; no OCR is included.
• A Chinese word selection currently maps to its complete source sentence segment. Reliable word-level alignment is not implemented.
• Image contents are not translated. Complex figures or tables may need to be viewed in the original PDF.
• Mobile reading and translated-PDF export are not implemented.
• Translation speed, quality, limits, and costs depend on the selected provider. Text is sent to that provider; BiRead does not operate a translation server.

Feedback and credits

Please report reproducible problems at BiRead Issues, including your Zotero/BiRead versions, operating system, provider, and reproduction steps. Remove API keys, tokens, private PDF text, and personal paths before sharing logs or screenshots.

BiRead is an independent fork based on zotero-pdf-translate by windingwind, version 2.4.8. It retains the upstream translation functionality it needs and adds a bilingual PDF reading workflow. Upstream AGPL license and copyright notices are retained. BiRead is not an official upstream update and does not imply endorsement by the upstream maintainer.
