@m3talsmith m3talsmith released this 06 Nov 05:12

Release Notes

Everything since the last published GitHub Release (v1.41.0). Tags v1.41.1–v1.41.4 existed but did not publish (release workflow YAML could not be dispatched). This cut is 1.41.5.

1.41.5

  • Release workflows: GPG key import no longer uses an unindented heredoc, so release.yml can be dispatched. Signing and Arch .pkg.tar.zst publish can run when GPG_PRIVATE_KEY is set.
  • Send: a 502 "A Sand box session is not permitted on this endpoint" is diagnosed as a server-side session restriction, with a /login desktop (or /login cursor) path, and no follow-up "Delivery unknown".
  • Sidebar: refresh drops deleted/archived/hidden bots; the local bot cache replaces the account set so removed bots cannot reappear.
  • Chat: images and other media attached to a message render inside the bubble.
  • Notices live in a scrollable panel capped at 7 rows (header plus up to 6 lines). Repeated "Gateway session refreshed via Cursor token." notices are shown once until cleared.

1.41.4

  • Side conversations in chat: agent-to-agent and Cursor cloud-agent traffic show as cards (↔ agent: … / ▣ cursor-agent: …). [view conversation] (or F11 / /card) opens the thread in a modal.
  • Mouse support on slash-command Tab completion: hover highlights, click accepts, click outside restores what you typed.

1.41.3

  • Chat attribution: only real user/human prompts are labelled as you. Bot and coding-agent reports are no longer shown in a "you" bubble from substring matches on role/kind. Stored roles are repaired on the next transcript merge.

1.41.2

  • Rounder chat bubbles (more side padding) and periodic timestamps (default every 10 minutes, chat.timestamp_interval_mins).

1.41.1

  • Release artifacts can include detached ASCII-armored GPG signatures (.asc) when repository secrets GPG_PRIVATE_KEY and optional GPG_PASSPHRASE are set. Native Arch packages (.pkg.tar.zst) are built as a publish job.
  • Docs: fix completions link in install.md; man page version updated.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 22:08

Release Notes

Added

  • Shell completions for bash, zsh, fish, PowerShell and elvish, generated from the CLI
    definitions with clap_complete (flags and the mcp serve|token|config and
    completions subcommands). grokbot-tui completions <shell> prints one to stdout.
  • The scripts are committed in packaging/completions/ (grokbot-tui.bash,
    _grokbot-tui, grokbot-tui.fish, _grokbot-tui.ps1, grokbot-tui.elv); a test keeps
    them current (UPDATE_COMPLETIONS=1 cargo test completions).
  • Installed by the .deb (bash, zsh vendor-completions, fish), the .rpm (bash, zsh
    site-functions, fish), the grokbot-tui-bin AUR package (generated by the binary at
    package time), and make install / install-local.sh (and so the source AUR package).
    The release archives carry all five scripts. No new release assets.
  • /help completions, a completions section in docs/install.md, the completions
    man page (man/grokbot-tui-completions.1).

Fixed

  • install-local.sh failed on the missing packaging/completions/ files; they exist now.
    --uninstall also removes the subcommand man pages.
  • Bash completion of subcommands: clap_complete 4.6 names the bash functions two ways for
    a hyphenated binary name, so nothing after mcp or completions completed; the
    generated script is normalised.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 20:53

Release Notes

Added

  • Website: https://weirdbrains.github.io/grokbot-tui/ (GitHub Pages, gh-pages
    branch): front page with a hero screenshot, features, downloads that always point at
    the latest release, a screenshot gallery, a Themes page with every built-in theme in
    dark and light (18 shots), and every doc rendered as a page. Built by site/build.py,
    checked by site/check.py; see docs/website.md (deploying, adding a custom domain).
  • Screenshots generated headlessly: the ignored test app::screenshots::site_screenshots
    drives the TUI with the mock API in a temp data dir and renders each screen to HTML;
    scripts/screenshots.sh turns them into PNGs with headless Chromium.
  • Docs: a guide per feature in docs/ (install and downloads per OS, login and accounts,
    chats and bots, team bots and groups, attachments, images and terminal graphics,
    search, notifications, browser and SSH, themes, keybindings and vim mode, settings,
    MCP, configuration and environment variables, data and privacy, troubleshooting,
    development, website) with a docs/README.md index.
  • docs/reference/help.md: every in-app help page, generated from the app's help
    source; a test fails when it is stale (UPDATE_DOCS=1 cargo test help_reference).
  • Man pages in man/ (grokbot-tui.1 plus the mcp subcommands), generated with
    clap_mangen from the CLI definitions, with ENVIRONMENT (every GROKBOT_TUI_*
    variable) and FILES sections; a test keeps them current
    (UPDATE_MAN=1 cargo test man_pages). The .deb, .rpm and make install install
    them.
  • One list of environment variables (src/envvars.rs); a test checks every
    GROKBOT_TUI_* name the source reads is in it, in /help env, the man page and
    docs/config.md.

Changed

  • /help env now also lists GROKBOT_TUI_MAX_RESPONSE_BYTES,
    GROKBOT_TUI_NO_HYPERLINKS, GROKBOT_TUI_FORCE_SSH, GROKBOT_TUI_FUZZBALL and
    GROKBOT_TUI_IMAGES.
  • Finished plans moved to docs/historical/ (theme editor, vim mode, notifications
    menu and tooltips).
  • The crate homepage is the website; the README links the site, docs and man page.
  • install-local.sh installs the man pages from man/.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 19:59

Release Notes

Fixed

  • Search indexing no longer blocks startup or the UI. The schema migration only creates
    the FTS tables and triggers; existing messages are backfilled on a dedicated
    fts-backfill thread with its own SQLite connection (WAL), in batches of 500, each its
    own short transaction. Schema v13 adds fts_backfill (next id, max id, done), so the
    backfill resumes after a quit, and it skips rows already indexed by the triggers or
    an earlier run.
  • Search queries run off the UI thread (a blocking worker with its own connection);
    results come back through the app's event channel, typing is debounced (120 ms) and
    stale results are dropped. While the backfill runs, the search box shows
    indexing… N%, and the query reruns when it finishes.
  • The text of files you send is read and cached for search on a worker thread instead
    of the UI thread.
  • The main connection now uses WAL and a busy timeout so worker connections never stall it.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 18:50

Release Notes

Added

  • Local message search: Ctrl-F or /search <words> (alias /find; vim keymap
    search.open on ctrl-f). Searches every cached message of the active account
    across all bots (team bots and groups included), attachment names and paths, and the
    text of small text files you send (UTF-8, ≤ 256 KiB, cached locally at send time).
    Never touches the network. Every word must match (case-insensitive word prefix);
    newest first, up to 200 results with bot, time, a highlighted snippet and an
    attachment tag. Enter or a click jumps to that bot's chat, scrolls to the message and
    flashes it; Ctrl-O (vim o) opens the matched attachment. Vim list mode: j/k, g/G,
    Ctrl-d/u, / edits, q closes.
  • Schema v12: SQLite FTS5 index messages_fts (backfilled from existing messages and
    kept in sync by insert/update/delete triggers) and attachment_text +
    attachment_text_fts. A LIKE search is the fallback if an FTS query can't run.
  • Help: a "message-search" topic and /help search; the Keys topic now lists Ctrl-F and
    describes the 1.38.0 rounded bubble layout.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 17:31

Release Notes

Changed

  • Rounded corners everywhere, to match the desktop Grok Bot app: every themed frame
    (chat, input, sidebar, help, pickers, shell, toasts, modals), the attachment panel,
    settings, inbox and browser dialogs, markdown tables and the theme editor previews
    now draw ╭╮╰╯ instead of ┌┐└┘.
  • Chat messages sit on a rounded bubble: a ╭─╮ / │ … │ / ╰─╯ frame around each
    message's text (yours accent-coloured and right-aligned, the bot's muted and
    left-aligned), its text wrapped 4 columns narrower for the sides. Links, code-block
    [⧉] buttons, selection/copy and click-to-react follow the new columns; inline images,
    media, cards and download rows stay under the bubble.
  • Reaction pills moved from their own row under a message to the bubble's top border,
    at its top-right corner (like the desktop's reaction pill). The [⧉] [☺+] buttons stay
    in the row after the message.

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 05:09

Release Notes

Fixed

  • Kitty images are sent zlib-compressed (o=z) again when the terminal supports it.
    1.37.3's single startup burst dropped ratatui-image's own compression probe; the
    burst now carries the same one-pixel compressed kitty query (i=32), the shared
    reader parses its reply under the graphics.detect_timeout_ms deadline, and kitty
    protocols are built with compression on. No reply or a refusal keeps images
    uncompressed. No extra startup latency (the probe rides the existing burst).

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Nov 05:30

Release Notes

Changed

  • Startup terminal queries are truly concurrent: the background colour, Fuzzball
    capability / graphics, kitty graphics, kitty keyboard, cell size and cursor position
    queries go out in one burst followed by DA1, and a single reader routes each reply by
    its type under the shared graphics.detect_timeout_ms deadline, stopping at DA1. A
    slow terminal now costs its slowest reply instead of the sum (simulated: 0.76 s, was
    cut off at the 1.5 s deadline with answers lost); a silent one still draws after one
    deadline (~1.5 s). Late replies are still discarded.

1.37.2 - 2026-11-02

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Nov 00:44

Release Notes

Changed

  • Ctrl-C is always copy (the selection, else the input) and never quits, in Fuzzball,
    kitty and legacy keyboard modes. Esc cancels a pending reply or closes overlays.
  • Ctrl-D is the default quit (also in keymap/default.toml); Ctrl-Q and /quit still
    quit. Ctrl-D still dismisses a card / form and duplicates in the theme editor; it no
    longer deletes forward in the input (Delete does). Keymap overrides apply.

Fixed

  • Startup terminal queries share one deadline, with a DA1 probe that skips the rest when the
    terminal doesn't answer, so a silent terminal draws in about 1.5 s. Late replies are discarded.
  • Running without a TTY prints a short error and exits with status 2 instead of panicking.

1.37.1 - 2026-11-02

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 02 Nov 23:38

Release Notes

Changed

  • Fuzzball keyboard decoding now comes from the published
    fuzzball 1.0 crate: the WeirdBrains/crossterm fork
    is at 0.29.0-fuzzball.2 (its fuzzball feature is built on the crate), and
    grokbot-tui's own capability / graphics reply parsing and capability query use it too.

Fixed

  • With Fuzzball keyboard on, Alt+Shift+P followed at once by another key no longer drops
    that key (fixed in the crossterm fork).
