OrbisFox 0.69 Alpha — native SDK prerelease

Console download: OrbisFox-0.69-alpha-Homebrew.pkg · Checksums

Experimental PS4 browser. Not production-ready. This is the pre-uBO baseline from 95137c3, versioned and rebuilt as 0.69. This is a prerelease, not latest/stable.

Simple changelog

  • Move to ps4-homebrew-dev/sdk v0.2.1, with isolated C++/Rust runtimes and real console libc imports.
  • Add the custom controller keyboard, including R2 for Enter; retain Sony's nonworking native keyboard backend for later repair.
  • Add saved reduced-motion settings and the optional Portable Baseline interpreter, enabled in this package. This is not native JIT, and no overall speedup is claimed.
  • Bound input replay and finished-worker teardown waits; add diagnostics and regression coverage.
  • Update SDK acknowledgements, licensing and build/relink instructions. Retain OpenOrbis credits for components still used.
  • No uBO implementation is included.

Download and install

Console users need OrbisFox-0.69-alpha-Homebrew.pkg. The source and relink archives are contributor materials, not installers. Verify downloads against SHA256SUMS.txt.

Install manually using your existing package-install workflow on a compatible homebrew-enabled PS4. The title remains OrbisFox SDK Test / ORHB00001, separate from the old ORBF00001 browser. The profile remains /data/orbisfox/homebrew-profile; existing browser data is not automatically migrated. Back up important data before upgrading. No jailbreak or firmware installer is included; compatibility with every model/firmware/homebrew environment is not established.

Validation and matching source

  • Incremental native SDK/Portable Baseline build and strict final application link passed using the preserved pre-uBO engine. The package was rebuilt with 0.69 SFO fields, not renamed from 0.68.
  • Independent package extraction verified 40 payload files and 2,402 resource archive entries, including title/version metadata and original resource hashes.
  • The full host suite passed twice: 364 Python tests per run, plus the C++ sanitizer harnesses and browser-shell doubles. These are host checks, not console compatibility proof.
  • All 432 source-manifest files were verified against commit e257fdf88236e6e99f0f8b32b005aa712b72f96f.
  • The matching 1,904-input relink kit reproduced the release execution image and every symbol record. Only non-loadable symbol-table entry ordering differed; full ELF hashes are recorded separately.
  • A real modified FFmpeg avcodec_version implementation was compiled and retained in the final orbis_media_avcodec_version body of a separately relinked ELF, while preserving the genuine library version. The distributed package uses the unmodified libraries.

Download the exact matching source archive, relink kit, checksums and verification report alongside the PKG. The kit includes corresponding pinned public SDK startup/runtime source and real LGPL codec source/configuration. Build and source-acquisition instructions are in CONTRIBUTING.md and docs/RELINKING.md; dependency pins and credits are in THIRD_PARTY.md and LICENSES/README.md. No proprietary firmware binaries are included. Component-specific licenses apply; the combined executable is not MIT-only. Engineering verification does not certify patent/trademark clearance or production security.

Known limits

Long stalls and crashes remain. Native JIT, WebAssembly, GPU rendering, hardware decoding and DRM are unavailable. YouTube/Twitch live playback and controlled WebSocket page loading are not established as fixed. YouTube chat was reported working; that is not live-player proof. This is in-process, with no content sandbox; avoid sensitive accounts and untrusted browsing.

Diagnostics remain off by default. Enable only for controlled reproductions, then disable again; never post raw profiles, cookies or unreviewed logs. Include the release, console model, firmware/homebrew version, reproduction steps and expected/actual behavior in bug reports.

No fresh console acceptance run is claimed. No console upload, installation or launch was performed.

OrbisFox 0.68 Alpha — PS4 Installer

Pre-release

@Wkrotik Wkrotik released this 15 Oct 19:58

Download and install on PS4

Console users: download OrbisFox-0.68-alpha.2.pkg.
The source/relink archives are for contributors and library modification, not the installer.

This is an experimental native PS4 browser tester build, not 1.0 or a production-ready browser.

  1. Download the .pkg and optionally verify it against SHA256SUMS.txt.
  2. Transfer it using your existing homebrew package-install workflow on your own homebrew-enabled PS4.
  3. Install and launch OrbisFox manually. Title ID: ORBF00001.
  4. If upgrading, back up important profile/bookmark data first. This uses the same title ID as earlier test builds.

No jailbreak/firmware installer is included. Compatibility with every model/firmware/homebrew environment is not established.

What this release contains

Implementation 0.68: real Gecko HTML/CSS, SpiderMonkey interpretation, HTTP/HTTPS, up to three tabs, controller/native IME, bookmarks/history/settings, software media codecs and AudioOut. Website color-scheme preference and fullscreen integration are implemented, but their full console effect still needs testing.

This corrects the earlier source-only release by adding the actual installable package, current licensing notices, matching source and a tested static-library relink kit. It does not add browser performance fixes. The native ELF was recompiled and is byte-identical to the retained 0.68 native ELF. The package was rebuilt and verified, not simply renamed from an old artifact.

Known limitations — please read

  • Heavy pages can be extremely slow; long main-thread stalls and remote-video stutter remain.
  • YouTube/Twitch livestreams stalled in the latest reported tests. YouTube chat was reported working; that does not establish live-player support.
  • The controlled WebSocket test page still failed to open on-console. An API being present does not prove end-to-end compatibility.
  • Native JIT creation was denied; JavaScript uses the interpreter. No WebAssembly, supported WebGL/WebGPU, GPU page rendering or hardware video decoding.
  • No DRM/CDM or extension platform. Do not expect commercial DRM streaming services to work.
  • Content is in-process without a desktop-style content sandbox. Avoid sensitive accounts and untrusted browsing.

Validation and reporting

  • 161 host regression tests passed, including real codec decoding tests.
  • 2438 extracted package files were hash-verified, with native link/startup/ABI checks.
  • Exported application objects successfully relinked with an identical execution image and all symbol records; only non-loadable symbol-table ordering differs. Full ELF hashes are recorded separately.
  • No new console launch was performed for this repack. Host/link/package checks are not console compatibility proof.

Diagnostics are off by default. Enable only for a controlled reproduction, then disable again. Do not attach raw profiles, cookies or unreviewed logs to public issues. Bug reports should include this release, model, firmware/homebrew version, steps, diagnostics state and expected/actual behavior.

Source, notices and modification

Matching project source and the relink kit are attached alongside the installer. See relinking instructions, license scope, and dependency sources/pins. FFmpeg source/configuration and the enabled Gecko license resources are also included in the package. The relink kit supplies application objects for modified LGPL libraries; it is not needed to install the browser.
