v0.5.1
v0.5.1 – Fixes and update notice
Discord: https://discord.gg/PEYdJ72aH
Online play works together with v0.5.0, nothing changes there; updating is still recommended.
New
Update notice: from now on the game tells you at startup when a newer HarmonyRecomp release is out (bottom of the screen and in the F6 menu, whose title now shows your version). It asks GitHub once per start, in the background; without internet the game starts as usual. Switch it off with check_for_updates = false in harmonyrecomp.toml.
Fixes
Controller and keyboard dead after closing the F6 menu (with the FPS counter off); pressing F2 brought them back. Fixed.
Laptops with two graphics cards now use the fast one automatically (low FPS on the built-in GPU). If it still runs slowly, pick the fast GPU for harmonyrecomp.exe in Windows Settings > Display > Graphics.
Setup: an older Visual Studio on the PC no longer breaks the build (__std_find_first_of_trivial_pos_1 link errors); the setup now uses its own compiler if the installed one is too old.
Known issues
The “has N DLC package(s) you don’t have” message compares file names, so players with the same DLC in another language (e.g. Japanese) or renamed files see it although nothing is missing. It is only a message and blocks nothing; a better check comes in a later update.
If the game crashes on an AMD graphics chip built into the CPU, set render_target_path_d3d12 = "rov" in harmonyrecomp.toml.
v0.5.0
v0.5.0 – Online without a VPN
Discord: https://discord.gg/PEYdJ72aH
New: online co-op without a VPN
- Switch on Online co-op in F6 > Online, Save and restart. The game connects to the HarmonyRecomp community server; no Radmin/ZeroTier/Tailscale needed anymore.
- Public rooms: host a game in the online menu and others find it with the game's own search, for random groups too.
- Room codes: while you host, your code (e.g.
R78QSH) appears at the bottom of the screen and in F6 > Online. Friends enter it under "Join a room" for private games (switch off "Public rooms"). - Players connect directly to each other; if a router doesn't allow that, the server relays the game traffic.
- Version check: lobbies of players with a different game version (with/without title update) are hidden, and a message tells you why.
- LAN/VPN play still works: empty "Online server" in F6 > Online.
Fixes
- Stuck after "Press Start" with several controllers connected (wheel, headset, DS4Windows/Steam virtual pad): all controllers now control player 1 (F6 > Controls > Controller).
- Setup finds DLC in subfolders (e.g. pick
58410A7A) and tells you on its last page if DLC was left out (title update missing) or not found (zipped / already unpacked).
Server
The server program is in server/ (one Python file) if you want to run your own.
v0.4.2
v0.4.2
Discord: https://discord.gg/PEYdJ72aH
Fixes
- Controller motion inputs: quick motions like the 360° martial arts could lose a direction and come out as an uppercut, at 60 FPS especially. Every direction and button change between two frames now reaches the game in order, like on the Xbox. (Thanks IFC_Leon for the report and testing!)
If you added input_backend = "xinput" as a workaround, you can keep it or remove it; both work now.
v0.4.1
v0.4.1
Discord: https://discord.gg/PEYdJ72aH
New
- Language setting: F6 > Graphics > Language (English, Japanese, German, French, Spanish, Italian), then restart. Text and voices follow it, like the Xbox 360's system language. (#19)
Fixes
- The FPS counter (and the F3 frame times) no longer costs frame rate: on some GPUs it dropped the game to ~15 FPS.
- Setup: if the game (or a leftover
harmonyrecomp.exe) is still running, the setup now says so instead of failing with a Python error. - Building from source: a change of the compiler on PATH no longer leaves a Debug build that fails to link.
Saves
Save data is in Documents\harmonyrecomp\B13EBABEBABEBABE\58410A7A\00000001\dchd_savedata\.
v0.4.0
v0.4.0 – Settings menu, controller everywhere, remapping
New: Discord server! Questions, help and news: https://discord.gg/PEYdJ72aH
New
- Settings menu (F6) with three tabs, fully usable with a controller (D-pad/left stick, A to confirm, B to go back, LB/RB to switch tabs):
- Graphics: everything from the old graphics menu.
- Controls: remap every controller button (including LT/RT and the D-pad, or switch one off), and rebind keyboard/mouse keys by clicking a key and pressing the new one. Turn keyboard & mouse mode on and set the mouse sensitivity. Changes apply immediately.
- Online: turn online co-op on, set your player name, pick the address to advertise from your PC's network adapters and manage the other players' addresses. No more editing
harmonyrecomp.toml(changes apply after a restart).
- Controller support in system dialogs ("Would you like to create a new save?", sign-in, ...) (#18)
Fixes
- Leaving a stage a second time through the pause menu froze the controls: the "Any unsaved data will be lost" box never appeared and the game waited for it forever. Closing the window also left the game running in the background.
- The A press that chose "Exit" could answer that box on its own before you saw it.
- Leaving a stage no longer logs
BaseHeap::Release failedfor every module, and module memory is now released properly (long sessions no longer lose memory).
Notes
- Text input in system dialogs still needs a keyboard.
- Your settings are kept. "Save" in F6 writes them to
harmonyrecomp.toml.
v0.3.7
v0.3.6
Setup fixes (#17)
The title update is found automatically in the 000B0000 folder next to the DLC folder (00000002) of a console dump; DLC no longer needs it copied in by hand
Package files lying next to the setup are only used if they belong to the same release, so an old package can no longer build an old version
v0.3.5
Fix: crash on the results screen after an online stage (#14)
The game reads the leaderboards there; the SDK reported success without writing any results, so the game read an uninitialized buffer and crashed. It now gets empty leaderboards (there is no leaderboard server). Thanks @NepuGearPudding for the map file.
README: new “Controls” section for keyboard and mouse (#15).
v0.3.4
Smoother frame rate
Fixed stutter and drops to 30 FPS on many PCs: the game’s 60 Hz clock now uses a 1 ms timer instead of Windows’ default 15.6 ms (#11)
The F2 FPS counter shows the real frame rate (it used to add 60)
New in the F6 menu: frame rate limit 60 / 90 / 120 / 144 / unlocked; the game speed stays the same
