Overkey v1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 14 Sep 06:33

Overkey 1.0.1

Same app as 1.0.0. The APK no longer carries the Play dependency metadata block, so F-Droid can build it reproducibly and ship it with the same signature as the GitHub release.

Overkey 1.0.0

Modifier and navigation keys in a bar above the keyboard you already use, in any Android app.

Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Meta, Esc, Tab, Home, End, Page Up, Page Down and the arrows, delivered the way a hardware keyboard's are, so Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and Ctrl+Z work in a terminal, an editor, a browser or a chat. Your keyboard, its layout, its swipe and its dictionary are untouched.

Install

Download app-release.apk below. Android 11 (API 30) and up, about 75 KB.

The bar needs "Display over other apps", and delivering keys needs a small helper started once per boot through Shizuku, one adb command, or root. The settings screen walks through each and says whether the helper is running. There is no accessibility service.

In this release

  • The bar, with modifiers that arm, hold or lock, and a chord grid over the keyboard
  • Aim mode: tap for a mouse click, drag for a mouse drag, hold for a menu
  • Copy any text, by lifting the text under your finger into a panel you can select part of
  • Copy any image, as it appears on screen, where the app offers no copy at all
  • Share anything to Overkey from another app's share sheet and it goes on the clipboard
  • Volume keys as modifiers, with the volume held back while a bound key is at work
  • Pinned mode, a foldable pill, a hidden mode, and eleven editor themes or your wallpaper's accent

A note on signatures

This build is signed with our own key. The Google Play build is signed by Google through Play App Signing, so the two carry different signatures and Android will not update one with the other. Switching between them means uninstalling first. The app is the same either way.

Full documentation is in the README.
