Dependency refresh (#176). Playwright 1.64.1 (the CI container and Dockerfile base image move to v1.64.1-noble with it), diff 9, dotenv 18, pixelmatch 8, TypeScript 7 (moduleResolution becomes nodenext; the emitted JavaScript is unchanged).

pixelmatch 8 compares colours in OKLab instead of YIQ, so the motion rule's changed-pixel percentages can shift slightly at the same threshold.

The unused @qualweb/core, @qualweb/playwright-driver, @ghostery/adblocker-playwright, playwright-extra-plugin-stealth, and playwright-dompath dependencies are dropped (nothing has required them since 78.5.0). The QualWeb bundles the qualWeb tool reads (@qualweb/qw-page, @qualweb/util, @qualweb/locale) become direct dependencies. 278 packages leave the lockfile.

TESTARO_PROXY (#173): an outbound proxy for every browser Testaro launches. Set it to an http, https, or socks5 URL (credentials allowed) and the browsers' traffic goes through that proxy, so tested sites see the proxy's address rather than the host's. WebRTC is confined to the proxy in Chromium (--force-webrtc-ip-handling-policy=disable_non_proxied_udp) and Firefox (media.peerconnection.ice.proxy_only); WebKit has no equivalent option. A malformed value, or a scheme other than http/https/socks5, stops launches instead of silently connecting directly. Unset, nothing changes. qualWeb needs no separate handling since 78.5.0, because it runs in the page Testaro already opened.

qualWeb runs in the page under test (#158): CSS-dependent QualWeb rules (contrast QW-ACT-R37/R76, zoomed-text clipping R40, colour techniques) now see the page's real styles — the old path loaded a serialized copy into a blank page where relative stylesheets never loaded — so their counts change; a rule that throws is excluded and recorded in data.rulePreventions instead of failing its section (e.g. QW-ACT-R76 on lab()/oklab()/color()/color-mix() colours, qualweb/qualweb#352); the qualWeb act's stealth/adBlock and QUALWEB_STEALTH/QUALWEB_ADBLOCK no longer have an effect. Also: the ibm tool's rule engine is selectable with IBM_ENGINE (#157); ACT validation harness changes (#151, #155, #156).

Checkpoints (78.3)

  • checkpoint act: snapshot a page state reached by the job's acts; test acts test the latest checkpoint and reach it by replaying the recorded interaction acts.
  • isolation job option (process, browser, page).
  • report.flow: issues added, persisted, removed, and not retested between consecutive checkpoints, with catalog structure and ARIA snapshot diffs.
  • scope: 'changed' on test acts; element-local rule flags; axe and surea11y root scoping.
  • Incremental catalog pruning; Playwright selector on move acts; procs/userPath.js converter for recorded user paths.
  • Design record: docs/checkpoint-scanning.md.

Deployment options (78.4)

Each is a job property when set, else an environment variable, else the earlier behavior: navigation (NAV_WAIT_UNTIL, NAV_TIMEOUT, NAV_FAIL_FAST_4XX), scannerId (SCANNER_ID), scroll (PRESCAN_SCROLL), browserChannel, testaro act retries (TESTARO_RULE_RETRIES), qualWeb act stealth and adBlock (QUALWEB_STEALTH, QUALWEB_ADBLOCK; the driver had ignored these, now provided via playwright-extra and @ghostery/adblocker-playwright).

Also

  • Certainty on standard instances (outcome, uncertainty, needed) since 78.1; pour and surea11y engines since 78.2.
  • axe adapter: rule filters passed as rules, detailLevel: 0 no longer erases violations.
  • Act-loop repairs (next, failed launches, url, state).
