Skykeep 0.1.12

Download

Your computer Get this
Windows 10 or 11 Microsoft Store or Skykeep-windows-x64-setup.exe
Ubuntu, Debian, Mint Snap Store or Skykeep-linux-amd64.deb
Fedora sudo dnf copr enable yashonfed/skykeep && sudo dnf install skykeep
Arch, CachyOS, Manjaro yay -S skykeep
Any other Linux Skykeep-linux-x86_64.AppImage
Apple Silicon Mac running Linux Skykeep-linux-arm64.deb or .rpm

Windows

  • No more dead end without WebView2. Skykeep draws its window with Microsoft's WebView2. On a PC where it is missing or broken, Windows only showed an error and nothing opened. Skykeep now notices before it starts, offers to install WebView2 from Microsoft, and opens by itself once that is done.

Notes

  • Very long notes open. A long journal or a pasted book used to open blank and wait on "Opening…" forever. It opens now.
  • A note whose text hasn't arrived yet says so, and that it is safe in iCloud, instead of a spinner that never stops.

Fixes from the first reports on GitHub, and a first community contribution.

Fixes

  • Older Apple Accounts sign in. Apple gives each account its own number of password-hashing rounds, and some older accounts get far fewer than most. Skykeep refused those as a broken reply; it now takes whatever Apple sends.
  • Notes always shows in the sidebar. On some accounts Notes synced but its row never appeared beside Reminders, Calendar and the rest. Each app now shows wherever its data can be read.

Linux

  • Dragging shows a small picture of what you carry, a reminder's, contact's or file's name or a photo, instead of a huge copy of its row, on high-resolution screens too.
  • Smoother on computers without a graphics chip (virtual machines and some displays): the window is painted on the processor there, which scrolls Photos about 60% faster. Nothing changes where a GPU is present.

Thanks to @Felitendo for the drag and painting fixes, and for maintaining Skykeep on the AUR.

Skykeep 0.1.10

Your family's Shared Library, and Skykeep on Apple Silicon Macs running Linux.

Photos

  • The Shared Library. The photo library you share with family shows beside your own, whether you set it up or were invited. Choose Both Libraries, Personal Library or Shared Library under Photos, as on iPhone: every view, count and month follows. Favorite, hide, delete, rate, caption and redate a shared photo, and the change reaches everyone's library.
  • Downloading a photo from a shared album saves its original again.

Linux on Apple Silicon

  • Skykeep runs on 64-bit ARM. For Omarchy and Asahi on M1, M2 and M3 Macs: a .deb and .rpm for ARM on this page, and Fedora Asahi Remix through COPR (sudo dnf copr enable yashonfed/skykeep). Each was installed and started on ARM Ubuntu, Debian and Fedora before release.

Linux

  • Kinder to your keyring. Skykeep now keeps one connection to the system keyring instead of opening a new one for every read and write. gnome-keyring 50 and 51 can crash on bursts of short connections, taking every app's saved passwords with it until it restarts; Skykeep no longer causes them.

iCloud Drive

  • No alarm when Apple is busy. If iCloud Drive is busy while a folder is opening, the folder you already have shows as it is, Skykeep checks again quietly, and no error pops up for something you didn't do.

Skykeep 0.1.9

Shared Albums open, the Hidden album is locked, and sign-in is clearer when something goes wrong. Skykeep is also in the Microsoft Store now.

Photos

  • Shared Albums open. See the albums you share from your iPhone and the ones you're invited to, each with its cover and when it expires, and look through their photos and videos: view, copy and download them. Their pictures are ready before you open an album.
  • The Hidden album is locked. Viewing it asks for your Apple Account password, as icloud.com does, and it locks again when you leave it, when the window is out of sight, and every time Skykeep starts. Checked on your computer, it opens instantly, even offline.

iCloud Drive

  • Download in the toolbar saves whatever is selected: a file, a whole folder, or several items.
  • Downloaded files keep the date they were last changed in iCloud.
  • Resuming a folder download fetches again any file that changed in iCloud since, even at the same size.
  • A second copy is named "Report 2.pdf" everywhere, as Finder names it.
  • A disk that fills up stops a download cleanly: what fit is saved whole, nothing half-written is left, and it carries on once there's room.

Sign-in

  • When Apple can't say where to send a code, Skykeep no longer tells you your account has nowhere to send one.

@github-actions github-actions released this 05 Nov 11:26

Skykeep 0.1.6

Stays signed in, works with Advanced Data Protection, downloads whole folders, and keeps your data safer than ever.

Sign-in

  • Stays signed in. Skykeep no longer asks for a code every day, and never sends a code to your iPhone on its own: a code is asked for only when you open the code screen.
  • Advanced Data Protection. With it turned on, Skykeep syncs Notes, Reminders, iCloud Drive and Photos when you press Sync Now and approve once on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. Your copy stays available in between, and your changes wait until the next approval.
  • New iCloud terms are said plainly, with a Try Again once you've agreed at icloud.com.
  • Accounts that take codes by text or by phone call get their code the way their number takes it.
  • A locked Apple Account reads as locked, never as a wrong password.
  • Security keys: an account that signs in with one is told so, instead of waiting for a code.
  • Diagnostics you can turn on: start Skykeep with SKYKEEP_LOG=1 to write a privacy-safe log (no passwords, tokens or content) you can share when something goes wrong.

iCloud Drive

  • Download a Copy of a whole folder, or of several items at once, into Downloads, with progress, Cancel, and Resume after a restart.
  • Pages, Numbers and Keynote documents download.
  • Files for an app's folder (an Obsidian vault, Shortcuts) upload into it.
  • Deleting a folder checks that it's still as you saw it; if something was added on another device, Skykeep asks again.

Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Reminders

  • A Calendar edit never overwrites a newer change made on another device: both are kept.
  • Invitations from Outlook and Windows show at the right time.
  • Contacts changes made in a batch are each sent against the current address book.
  • Notes pasted from Windows keep their line breaks.
  • Reminders with titles stored in an older format show again.
  • Edits keep everything you can't see in Skykeep — drawings in notes, location alerts in reminders, custom contact fields.

Photos

  • Much faster with large libraries: counts, scrolling and search stay quick into the hundreds of thousands of photos.
  • Accounts whose library Apple moved find it again.
  • A library Apple is still preparing says so, and Skykeep looks again later.
  • Duplicated photos appear.

Safety and reliability

  • Remove Copy now deletes the library's files completely when you sign out.
  • Two Apple Accounts on one computer never mix: each account's changes only ever go to that account.
  • Thumbnails stop being saved when your disk is nearly full.
  • Only one Skykeep runs at a time, on every kind of disk.
  • A clock that's set wrong no longer delays syncing or signing in.

Install

System How
Windows 10 and 11 Skykeep-windows-x64-setup.exe (or the .msi), or scoop install skykeep/skykeep
Ubuntu, or any Linux with Snap sudo snap install skykeep
Fedora 43+ sudo dnf copr enable yashonfed/skykeep && sudo dnf install skykeep
Ubuntu 24.04+, Debian 13, Linux Mint 22 Skykeep-linux-amd64.deb
Fedora 41+, openSUSE Tumbleweed Skykeep-linux-x86_64.rpm
Any distribution, Ubuntu 22.04 and newer Skykeep-linux-x86_64.AppImage
Flatpak, by hand Skykeep-linux-x86_64.flatpak

The Windows installer and the AppImage update themselves: this version appears as Update and Restart. Snap, COPR and Scoop update through their own tools.

Skykeep 0.1.4

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 13:17

Skykeep 0.1.4

Clearer sign-in, steadier saving on Windows, and Skykeep in more places to install from.

Sign-in

  • When Skykeep can't pick up your session, it says why. A locked Apple Account reads as locked, with where to unlock it, instead of always "Apple signed you out".
  • When Apple asks you to wait, Skykeep says so, and that trying again right away can lock the account for a while.
  • Sending the code again to your devices or by text explains what Apple said, instead of showing an HTTP code.

Windows

  • Your sign-in saves reliably even while Windows Defender or the search indexer is checking the file.
  • Installed with Scoop? Updates come through Scoop, so you never end up with a second copy.

Linux

  • In the Snap, if keyring access hasn't been granted yet, Skykeep tells you the one command that grants it.

Install

System How
Windows 10 and 11 Skykeep-windows-x64-setup.exe (or the .msi)
Ubuntu and any distribution with Snap sudo snap install skykeep
Ubuntu 24.04+, Debian 13, Linux Mint 22 Skykeep-linux-amd64.deb
Fedora 41+, openSUSE Tumbleweed Skykeep-linux-x86_64.rpm
Any distribution, Ubuntu 22.04 and newer Skykeep-linux-x86_64.AppImage

The Windows installer and the AppImage update themselves: this version appears as Update and Restart. For the .deb or .rpm, install this version over the old one; your library and sign-in stay.

Skykeep 0.1.3

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 06:16

Skykeep 0.1.3

A sign-in fix: when Apple refuses a sign-in, Skykeep now shows Apple's actual reason.

Sign-in

  • Apple's real reason, on screen. If Apple has locked an Apple Account for security, Skykeep says so and where to unlock it (iforgot.apple.com), instead of showing an unrelated reply.
  • A password Apple doesn't accept says so plainly, and reminds you that an app-specific password can't sign in here: Skykeep needs your Apple Account password, which it never sends anywhere (Apple's own SRP sign-in with two-factor).

Install

System Download

Skykeep 0.1.2

@github-actions github-actions released this 04 Nov 05:01

Skykeep 0.1.2

Sign-in that works for every Apple ID, an AppImage for older Linux systems, a locked Hidden album, and a round of fixes across every app.

Sign-in

  • Every Apple ID signs in. An Apple ID typed with capital letters now signs in, and the occasional "wrong password" with the right password is gone.
  • A locked keyring is asked again. If GNOME Keyring or KWallet is locked or still starting when Skykeep opens, Skykeep asks it again and shows one clear line, instead of asking you to sign in and for a new code.
  • Apple being busy is not a sign-out. When Apple's servers are busy, your library opens as usual and syncs once they answer.

Photos

  • The Hidden album is locked until you choose View Hidden Photos, and locks again when you leave it, as in Photos on iPhone and Mac.
  • Copy puts a real picture on the clipboard: a PNG and a bitmap on Windows, a PNG on Linux.
  • Date Added sorting keeps Years and Months by the date each photo was taken.

iCloud Drive

  • Pasting onto a name that's taken asks Keep Both or Replace, as in Finder.
  • Paste files copied in your file manager into Drive again.
  • Duplicate names its copy the same way Paste does.

Calendar

  • Month view keeps every bar inside its week; the rest are in "N more".

Windows

  • Drag and drop inside a window works: reorder reminders, move them between lists, drag contacts onto lists and photos onto albums.
  • Export and downloads finish even when Windows Defender is still checking a file that was just written.

Linux

  • The AppImage runs on Ubuntu 22.04 and every newer distribution, and starts without a network connection.

Under the hood

  • p256 0.14 for the push channel's signing (RUSTSEC-2026-0387).
