Plume v1.0.26

@Yielloow Yielloow released this 15 Oct 15:41

Plume 1.0.26

Full screen with F11, and work groups you can tidy.

F11

  • F11 puts the page in full screen. Tabs, address bar and bookmarks go
away, the window covers the screen, and only the page is left: enough to
play a browser game with nothing around it. F11 again puts everything back,
on the screen and in the state the window was in, maximised or not.
  • This full screen belongs to the window, not to the page. Switching tabs
keeps it, as in other browsers, and a video leaving its own full screen does
    not undo it.
  • If a video is the one holding full screen, F11 asks it to leave rather than
pulling the screen from under it: the player puts its controls back, and its
    exit brings the window home.

Work groups

  • A page can be removed from a group from its card. The gear on the card
unfolds the list of the group's pages, each with its icon, its title and its
own cross. Right-clicking a tab already did it, but only for an open page:
an address filed three weeks ago had no way out. The cross on the edge still
    deletes the whole group.
  • Cards keep their own height when one unfolds, instead of stretching their
neighbours, and the gear and the cross stay next to the group's name instead
of drifting into the middle of the list.

Plume v1.0.25

@Yielloow Yielloow released this 13 Oct 23:49

Plume 1.0.25

Stability first: tab sleeping is gone, and Plume no longer acts on its own.

Why tabs no longer sleep

The engine's browser process died three times in six days, always on a video
page, and Windows never said a word about it: no error report, no graphics
driver reset, no memory exhaustion. Sleeping was the only thing Plume asked of
the engine that touches its process-level memory management. It is the
best-placed suspect, and the only one that could be removed without losing
anything essential. Plume now holds more memory. A browser that weighs is
better than a browser that closes.

Freezes

  • Plume asks the engine a trivial question every four seconds, and what counts
is that an answer comes back. A frozen page is written to
    profil/plantages.txt instead of passing unnoticed.
  • Nothing is done automatically: a false alarm would reload a video you were
watching, or close a browser you were working in. "Restart Plume" waits in
the gear panel, and it is the only command still answering when every page is
frozen. The reprise_auto setting in config.json hands the decision back.
  • A page that no longer answers can also be revived with Ctrl+Shift+R, which
rebuilds the view and so changes renderer process.

Pages and ads

  • Windows a page asks for really open now. Sites that open "about:blank" and
fill it afterwards, including ads some sites make you watch before a stream,
only ever got a blank tab before.
  • An ad is also recognised by its parameters, not just its domain: throwaway
domains carrying a click id together with a landing-page key, a tracker, a
sold zone or a feed. A domain that starts with the very click id it carries
    is refused outright.
  • A refused advertising window says so and offers to open it anyway, for the
sites that demand one before showing anything.
  • Pages that set no background of their own are readable again. LinkedIn came
    out black on black.
  • The what's new page no longer reports itself as a scam: it quotes the
changelog, which describes the "click allow to prove you are not a robot"
    trick.

Plume v1.0.24

Choose a tag to compare

@Yielloow Yielloow released this 01 Oct 10:49

What's new

  • Plume notices when the engine dies under it. A crashed renderer reloads its tab; if the whole browser process is gone, Plume saves the session and restarts into it. This is what showed as every page going blank at once, on every site. And when Windows updates the WebView2 runtime while Plume is running, Plume now says so and offers to restart, instead of waiting for the pages to die.
  • A history page. Grouped by day, with a search field, a cross to forget a single page, and a button to clear everything. Ctrl+H opens it. It can be switched off entirely, and a private window still writes nothing.
  • Settings are panes now, not one long page. The column on the left picks the one you see, the address remembers it, and a search box finds a setting across all of them.
  • Ctrl+J reopens the downloads window, which used to appear once and never come back.
  • YouTube's theatre mode is remembered from one video to the next, and the theatre button in Plume's player now aims at the right site: Twitch and YouTube each have their own button and shortcut.
  • Two address bar fixes: selecting part of the address with the mouse no longer snaps back to selecting all of it, and clicking a suggestion opens it. Only Enter worked before.

Which file do I want?

  • Plume-1.0.24-installeur.exe is the normal one. It installs Plume, adds a Start menu shortcut, lets it be set as the default browser, and updates itself from then on.
  • Plume-1.0.24-portable.zip is the same program as a plain folder. Unzip it anywhere, run Plume.exe, and the profile is created next to it, so the whole folder travels as it is. No shortcut, no uninstall entry, and it cannot be the default browser. Note: the updater downloads the installer, so if you let the portable copy update itself you end up with a second, installed one. Replace the folder by hand instead.

Windows 10 (1809) or 11, 64-bit. The installer is not code signed, so SmartScreen will warn you: click More info, then Run anyway.

@Yielloow Yielloow released this 29 Sep 21:43

What's new

  • Plume no longer overwrites WEBVIEW2_ADDITIONAL_BROWSER_ARGUMENTS or
WEBVIEW2_USER_DATA_FOLDER. Switches and a profile path set before launch
are kept, and Plume only adds its own on top. This is what portable setups
need, and it was silently dropping them before.

Which file do I want?

  • Plume-1.0.23-installeur.exe is the normal one. It installs Plume, adds a

v1.0.19

@Yielloow Yielloow released this 27 Sep 18:41
