v0.10.39 — Avatar award crash fixed; camera motion on macOS and iOS
Changes
- No more crash after winning certain races (#317). On the Xbox 360, some wins also earned an Avatar award: a clothing item for your Xbox avatar. In 0.10.38 the game stopped as soon as it tried to hand one out, for example right after finishing first in a Tag or Relay race. There is no Xbox dashboard to receive the item, so the game is now told the award went through and carries on to the results. Your achievements are still saved as before.
- Camera motion on macOS and iOS (#305). The Mac and iOS apps now include the body-tracking models, so Camera › Motion in the launcher works there as it does on Windows, Linux and Android. The first time the camera is opened, the system asks for permission.
- Kinect for Xbox 360 on a Mac (#305, first version). The Mac app can now read a Kinect for Xbox 360 (choose Camera › Kinect). It has not been tried with a real Kinect yet; without one plugged in, the game plays with the controller as before.
- macOS 14 or later is now required, because the body-tracking runtime needs it.
Everything else is the same as v0.10.38.
Validation
- The Avatar award crash (#317): reproduced on our own copy of the game by putting an Avatar award in the game's own award queue, so the game itself sends the same request it sent in the reporter's logs. 0.10.38 stopped with the same error as the reports. 0.10.39 notes the award and goes on. Checked again with this release's Windows package: an award handed out in the middle of a Dolphin Resort race, which then carried on at full speed (1.0009).
- Windows x64 package, Vulkan, with the validation layer: a whole Dolphin Resort race with no validation errors (speed 1.000, all 455 pipelines prepared). The title movie and Sharp scaling were also checked.
- macOS (M1) package: a whole Dolphin Resort race at full speed (1.000), no MoltenVK errors. Without a camera or Kinect plugged in, the game plays with the controller.
- AYN Thor, this release's APK (Android 10+):
- Dolphin Resort at full speed (60 fps, 0.999); lap 2 reached.
- Touch controls and Tilt to lean on: 0.997.
- Camera motion on (the Thor has no camera): full speed (0.999).
- Threads on one core: race 0.995 and 0.997 in two runs, a frame drawn in 25.8 and 20.6 ms on average. This case varies with the phone's temperature: 0.10.37 measured 18 to 30 ms.
- Linux archive: the game loads the bundled runtime from its own folder.
- Android APKs: same signing key as before, so they install over 0.10.38.
- Unit tests: 177 passed on Linux, 185 on Windows. On macOS, 174 of 176 passed; the 2 that failed are the same tests that 0.10.38 failed, and the macOS GitHub Actions run leaves them out. GitHub Actions builds and tests passed on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android.
- Not tested: a real camera on macOS or iOS, and a real Kinect on a Mac (none here). Phones other than the AYN Thor. The iOS app was built and packaged only.
