Bolo 1.7.0
Bolo 1.7.0
Highlights
- Install like an app, not a project.
Bolo-1.7.0.dmgcontains a universalBolo.appwith a bundled Python runtime — no Rust toolchain, no terminal, no repo. Drag to Applications, open, and grant two permissions. - One Accessibility grant covers everything. The app bundle is the trusted process, so its helper processes inherit the grant: no more adding a Python interpreter path by hand.
- Setup happens in the app. The first-run window walks through permissions, validates and saves your AssemblyAI API key (paste, validate, done — no config files), and ends on a live "hold the key and say a sentence" moment that turns green after your first dictation.
- First words are no longer at risk. Capture starts at keypress and a replay buffer feeds the preview and dictation paths even when they attach late — the first-word-cutoff class of bug (the #1 complaint in this category) is structurally closed. The overlay shows a "Connecting…" phase until the preview is live instead of promising a meter that isn't running yet.
- Corrections are visible. When you edit a misheard word after dictation, Bolo learns it and tells you ("Bolo learned: X -> Y"). A new Learned Words menu item opens a tappable list so you can see and remove anything it learned.
- The DMG opens with a proper first impression — dark background, "Drag Bolo to Applications" — and the menu bar speaks human: Recent Dictations, Teach Bolo a Word…, Fix a Misheard Word…, with secondary items under More…
Install
- Download
Bolo-1.7.0.dmgbelow. - Open it, drag Bolo to Applications.
- Open Bolo (first launch only: System Settings > Privacy & Security > Open Anyway, since the app is not yet Developer-ID-signed).
- Follow the setup window: grant Accessibility and Microphone, paste your AssemblyAI API key (get one at https://www.assemblyai.com/dashboard/home), then hold your hotkey and say a sentence.
Existing installs from source keep working with ./install.sh / ./restart.sh. The app bundle and a source install share ~/.bolo settings but cannot run at the same time.
Verification
175 Rust tests, 135 Python tests, clippy at the pre-existing baseline, green macOS CI, DMG verified by mount + launch in an isolated runtime.
