network interface binding option #535

proxy --hostname=1.1.1.3 is not solution. proxy using 1.1.1.2 |
Hi @crucifyer , IMO using desired interface IP with --hostname flag must do the trick. Can you post the logs printed, when you start proxy with custom --hostname flag? Thank you!!! |
|
I am unsure what that ip.php file is. If it simply returns IP address
(like httpbin.org/get) then 1.1.1.2 is most likely your public facing
interface, and hence you receive 1.1.1.2 in response.
proxy.py itself is listening and serving over 1.1.1.3. You are already
sending traffic to 1.1.1.3 (from browser) to access the proxy, right?

Of course. I have a lot of ips on my server. The exact purpose is thank you. |
Maybe this is the part. https://docs.python.org/3/library/socket.html
Please understand that this may be wrong as this is not well known. |
@crucifyer This possibly can work (haven't tried it myself before) but will definitely require sudo privileges. Can you work on a small POC, where:
If it does, we can wrap this POC as a feature within |
I tested it like this. The bind() alone works very well.
thank you. |
Thank you @crucifyer , but I am left a little confused over what is our objective here. If I understand correctly, you did a bind on I think same should be achievable using |
yes. |
I want to put a bind statement, but I can't find where to make the client socket. 😿 |
@crucifyer You may hardcode |
@crucifyer Are you still here with me on this :). I am looking into it but would like to clarify what exactly are we after. Your example is a little misaligned, because May you be can convey your requirement via this diagram and let me know where exactly are you expecting bind. More useful will be to explain the scenario you are trying to achieve, Thank you!!! |
@abhinavsingh |
@crucifyer Ok, so I think we need to pass
Can you try to pass I am already working on a custom DNS resolver plugin, see #664 and I am thinking same resolution callback can also provide the source address to use. Allowing you to override PTAL and Lmk. Thank you. |
Please take a look at #671 This should do exactly what we are after here. If it doesn't let me know. I couldn't try it immediately for verification, as I'll need a host with 2 public IPs configured. Please give it a try when you can. I added a Let me know if you run into any issue. |
@abhinavsingh yes yes!! it works! |
Awesome, if you want, you can now use a plugin to customize this behavior and need not be hardcoded. Example, extend https://github.com/abhinavsingh/proxy.py/blob/develop/proxy/plugin/custom_dns_resolver.py#L32 plugin and Thank you for bringing this to my notice. |
@crucifyer See some documentation here https://github.com/abhinavsingh/proxy.py#customdnsresolverplugin. Lemme know if you run into any issue again :) |
@abhinavsingh |
Awesome. I think you might be able to use one of these combination to achieve the necessary: >>> socket.gethostbyaddr("127.0.0.1")
('localhost', ['1.0.0.127.in-addr.arpa'], ['127.0.0.1'])
>>> socket.gethostbyname("localhost")
'127.0.0.1' Wdyt? |
I meant args like this. |
Cool, I see what you mean here. Essentially, use the same interface as the one defined via Good point. I think this should be the default behavior. And we should be able to bake it into the core, so that a plugin is no longer necessary for your use case. A plugin will still be required if you want to have a different source address as that defined by Wdyt? |

is there any way listen 2 ports and bind data to any one of external ip? |
This should be possible, but unfortunately, you will also need to know on which port was the request accepted 1881 or 1882. Currently, this information is not exposed to the plugins :(. I have myself run into this issue before and I hope to get this addressed, now that we have someone else in need of this feature :). I have opened to track support for this. |
Great thnx |
Here is a monkey-patch i added to be able to select an interface by name in the plugin: import ipaddress
import socket
import sys
# Monkey patch to allow the selection of a network interface for the proxy to function
from proxy.common import utils
def patched_new_socket_connection(
addr,
timeout: float = 10.0,
source_address=None,
) -> socket.socket:
conn = None
try:
ip = ipaddress.ip_address(addr[0])
if ip.version == 4:
conn = socket.socket(
socket.AF_INET,
socket.SOCK_STREAM,
0,
)
if source_address and "." not in source_address:
conn.setsockopt(
socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_BINDTODEVICE, str(source_address + "\0").encode("utf-8")
)
conn.settimeout(timeout)
conn.connect(addr)
else:
conn = socket.socket(
socket.AF_INET6,
socket.SOCK_STREAM,
0,
)
if source_address and "." not in source_address:
conn.setsockopt(
socket.SOL_SOCKET, socket.SO_BINDTODEVICE, str(source_address + "\0").encode("utf-8")
)
conn.settimeout(timeout)
conn.connect((addr[0], addr[1], 0, 0))
except ValueError:
pass # does not appear to be an IPv4 or IPv6 address
if conn is not None:
return conn
# try to establish dual stack IPv4/IPv6 connection.
return socket.create_connection(
addr, timeout=timeout, source_address=source_address
)
def uncache(exclude):

for mod in exclude:
pkg = mod.split(".", 1)[0]
pkgs.append(pkg)

to_uncache.append(mod)

break
for mod in to_uncache:
del sys.modules[mod]
utils.new_socket_connection = patched_new_socket_connection
uncache(["proxy.common.utils"]) Here is the code for the plugin: try:
return (
socket.getaddrinfo(host, port, proto=socket.IPPROTO_TCP,)[0][

interface_name,
)

hi,
I wish bind address option.
thank you.
ex) pc ips (1.1.1.2, 1.1.1.3, 1.1.1.4)
