clinical-trials-search-engine

The paradigm of precision medicine has become one of the most important innovations in the field of medicine. In modern medicine, many treatments found effective for some patients do not produce intended results or even do harm to others. This is especially true when it comes to cancer, where a specific gene could decide what treatment or prognosis should be done. However, knowledge of these cases is too overwhelming for clinicians to consider and how to help clinicians to find the most appropriate information has become a major issue in precision medicine.

In order to address this issue in precision medicine, we created a clinical trials search engine to find clinical trials that most closely relate to specific patient cancer cases. Our search engine is based on documents collected from www.clinicaltrials.gov, and was evaluated using established tasks from the Text REtrieval Conference (TREC) Precision Medicine track. A demo of this search engine, based on a subset of the total number of clinical trial documents is located at http://acbarber.pythonanywhere.com.
