Proton VPN for Decky (Unofficial) v0.1.0

Initial experimental prerelease of an independent Decky integration for Proton VPN.
Not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Proton AG.

Install

Download decky-protonvpn-v0.1.0.zip, not GitHub's source archives. In Decky settings, select Manual Plugin Install > Load from ZIP file.

Upgrading from a development build: remove the old Decky plugin named Proton VPN first, then install Proton VPN (Unofficial). Do not uninstall the Proton VPN Flatpak or remove its account data. This avoids two plugin copies controlling the same VPN.

Included

  • Native Connection, Settings, and Account tabs with controller navigation.
  • Fast NetworkManager-only connection viewing, Quick Connect, country selection, and disconnect.
  • Encrypted sign-in, verified account-name display, and confirmed sign-out.
  • Kill-switch controls with disconnected-state guards, NetShield, VPN Accelerator, and Moderate NAT.
  • Confirmed user-scoped Proton VPN Flatpak installation when missing, with resumable panel status and compatibility verification.
  • Shared operation coordination across panel remounts and guarded, non-destructive keyring access.

Verification and Limits

  • 166 automated tests, TypeScript checking, and packaging verified locally.
  • Earlier on-device connection, disconnection, authentication, and IPv4 routing checks passed; these are not comprehensive leak or security certification.
  • Live first-install testing, reboot/session-transition durability, and comprehensive IPv6/DNS leak testing remain outstanding.
  • Unsupported Proton implementations fail closed. Close Proton's desktop GUI before using plugin controls.
  • Keep the Deck awake and do not restart Decky during Flatpak installation. Job state survives panel reopening, not backend restart.
