v0.8.7 — 2026-10-02

Fixed

• v0.8.6 shipped a broken wheel and this is the repair. .gitignore's _*.py rule
  (meant to discard ad-hoc probe scripts) also matched
  src/mcptoon/_toon/__init__.py. The file was present in the working tree, so the
  full suite passed locally, git status stayed empty (the file was ignored, not
  missing), and a locally built wheel was fine — all three hid it. Only a clean
  checkout exposed it. Anyone who installed 0.8.6 from PyPI got a CLI that dies on
  startup:

  mcptoon --version
  ImportError: cannot import name 'ToonDecodeError' from 'mcptoon._toon'
  

  PyPI does not allow re-uploading a version, hence the hotfix. Upgrade to 0.8.7 if
  you are on 0.8.6.

• Added the guard that would have caught it (tests/test_source_tracked.py):
  every .py under src/ must be tracked by git (naming the .gitignore rule that
  ate it when it isn't), every directory containing .py must have an __init__.py,
  and _toon must be importable from an installed package.

• The benchmark tests now skip per-test instead of per-module, so the collected test
  count no longer depends on whether tiktoken is installed. A module-level
  importorskip had made CI collect 1740 and this machine 1752, which turned the
  suite-total guard red on a green codebase.
