A compatibility fix on top of v2.0.0. No API changes.

Fixed

curl_close() is deprecated from PHP 8.5, where it emits a deprecation notice on every request and every subscription. It has had no effect since PHP 8.0 — the curl handle is an object, freed by refcount — so both calls are simply gone. Nothing changes on 8.1 through 8.4.

This surfaced because Ubuntu 26.04 ships PHP 8.5 as its default, and 8.5 was outside the original CI matrix.

Changed

  • PHP 8.5 added to CI. It is the current stable and now an LTS distro default; leaving it untested meant users would meet these before we did.
  • failOnDeprecation enabled. The suite already failed on warnings and notices. A deprecation that is merely reported is how a break in the following major arrives unannounced — this one was only caught by running the suite on 8.5 by hand.

Verified

75 unit tests on PHP 8.1, 8.2, 8.3, 8.4 and 8.5, plus 7 live tests against a real 4-node network on 8.5.4. Clean, with no deprecations.
